My g/f and I met through Counter-Strike and when I got bored of that and went back to DAoC I dragged her with me. Wasn't too tough since she is a huge gamer. Ever since we have played every MMO together. We'll prob end up playing WoW next unless something else draws us. lol

Originally posted by aeric67 For you women gamers out there, what is it that draws you into these games? I mean, obviously you enjoy them, but I am having a problem tempting my wife to join me again and play. She is so suspicious when I try to get her to play or even watch me play, almost like she is being stubborn or something. I can't figure it out. Like I said in previous post, she used to love playing EQ1. Now she won't even admit it, although she doesn't deny it. She gets almost embarrassed when I mention the whole thing about her dreaming about orcs LOL.Anyway, any tips to get her interested again?
Well, why did she quit?
Like I said, I got into because the man was playing. I STAYED with it because I became all sorts of involved with the story line in the game. Maybe she's just burned out on the game and needs to try a totally different kind of MMORPG. Personally, I don't like games that are heavy on grouping, so Asheron's Call was the game for me. Games with a strong community are a big plus to me. Games like Dark and Light and Wish are drawing me in because of the promised player impact on the world. Games with an inherent clever sense of humor are always going to win with me. Have her try WoW or CoH or something that's not like EQ. Maybe even something that's more role-play oriented, like Underlight. There's a MMORPG out there for every type of person {or at least there soon will be!}, sometimes it just takes a while to find it.
And tell her dreaming about the game is nothing to be embarassed about! The last peice of writing I did was based on a game-related dream, and it was pretty darn good according to the people who read it.

On average, about 60% of female players (N = 312) and 16% of male players (N = 1592) play the game with a real-life romantic partner. The gender difference is expected and is a function of the ratio of men and women playing the game (about 5:1), although a small proportion may be attributed to same-sex romantic partners. Even so, knowing that up to 2/3s of female players are not playing the game alone is important, because this probably influences their game-play patterns, and this has to be kept in mind when trying to explain gender differences in in-game data. The following graph plots the percentage of players who play with a RL romantic partner across gender and age groups.

Hmmm, why does the graph seem like it is based on incorrect data? If 60% of women gamers play with a partner than an equal number of men would be playing also. Even taking into account same-sex partners the differences shouldn't be that big. Maybe I'm just being stupid which I apologize for. lol

I have played throughout my marriage (and before), but my wife doesn;t have the fantasy connection I do. She has no problem with me playing, except for the multiple times a night she asks me something like "So the scientists proved Mars was made of cheese today?" to which I respond "Shhh, yes they did!" lol Seriously, I have played online with many many couples and I think it's very cool, but I enjoy not sharing my comp time with Mrs. Yeti hehe

the thing is that there most probably are more male gamers than female gamers. lets just make thing basic. lets say there are 1000 male gamers in the world but only 100female gamers. meaning that 60% of the female players would be 60females that need 60parterns. So 60 of the 1000 male would be the amount of couple maled playing and thats only 6% coupled males.
as you can see all numbers are just random stuff to make this a bit easier:)
Yea, but I would expect that a survey would poll an equal amount of players of both sexes...I can see why they did it this way in this case but it unbalances the survey because not all percentages are based on the same numbers. Can't accurately compare them in a sense.

I've been playing online games since I got married to my husband 6 years ago. My first online game was Delta Force Land Warrior 3. Had a lot of fun with that until we moved on to D2, Quake3, Half Life, Tribes2, Wolfenstein, then AC2 which we played for a year and a half...Moved to Planetside, still playing it and waiting for WoW.
Before we got a second computer, I could not understand how he could sit there and game for hours upon hours. THen santa showed up with a computer for me our first christmas together, and the rest is history... I was (and still am) totally hooked. I really enjoy being a team with him in game as well as IRL.
We enjoy making toons that compliment each other, covering each others 6, and meeting nice couples like ourselves. There are so many other married-gf/bf types & roomies that we've made RL friends with throughout our gaming. I'm glad my husband got me into online gaming.
My fiance introduced me to MMO games when Ragnarok Online was in open beta and he suggested trying it. I played RO far longer than he did, but when he was still playing, we played side by side. Our computers are in the same room. Some of our guildmates would get so confused when I would see something pop up in whisper on his screen and I would reply to them with a snarky remark.
We played the WoW stress test and we're both super-hooked on it and can't wait for release. Whenever we play games like this together, I often try to choose a character class that will suit whatever he plans to play. I love making priests and other support characters to level along with him. Or if he's a warrior, it's fun to make a caster character so he can play tank while we're partied up. We love to help each other out and craft items, trade items, or flat out give each other things that might be useful.

If you survey 100 random men and 100 random women, they're not all going to share partners within the surveyed groups. Say 60 of the surveyed women play with their partners....that doesn't mean that 60 of the men surveyed should match up with that.
No, but if you have 100 men and women and 60 women said they play with a partner that is male then you know for a fact that you have 60 men that play with a partner along with however many out of the 100 previously asked...You can't just ignore those counts. IMO at least. :P

Me and my husband have been playing MMO's together for about 4 years now .. be it we are not always playing the same one at the same time ... we eventually end up playing together at some point in time
My fiancee and I have been together for 6 years now. I got him hooked on the RPG genre (I love Final Fantasy games), but he was the first one to suggest we try an ORPG. Our first dip into the genre (kinda like getting the feet wet in a kiddie pool) was Phantasy Star Online for the GameCube. We plan to move into WoW together when it is released, and to bring our other gaming couple friends with us
Our computers used to be in different rooms, but then we never saw each other between classes, work, and gaming, so now our computers are side-by-side Though I think he is worried about how addicted I am to these games...
I met my bf in SWG......but after almost a year, I've lost interest in the game. He however hasn't and seems to prefer spending his time there. So I quit the game and dumped him. He's now playing my toon....sad that he prefers the pixels to real life....
I'm sorry to hear that Goldenpixie. But at least you have the knowledge that there are plenty of men playing online games. :P Finding one that isn't an immature prick is a toughie.
