mmos pricing raising?

zensaberzensaber Member UncommonPosts: 787

well as i look at it ever few years the supscritions always go up. Like i remeber when EQ was only like 9.99USD and some of the new ones are up to 15USD this equals majour pain for me because im Canadian so 15USD is like 21CAN a month wich sucks, is this meaning the newer games cost more to run? servers costs more?Like i won saga of ryzom and im debating and trying it or not, like what happens if i get hooked on it, im only 14 so i cant pay that much, well i can with my underpay job but still its kinda steep.

I don't know if it is the fact that the newer games cost mroe to make/run, but I think it is more that the developers feel that most MMOers will pay the extra $5.

SWG is 15$ a month and most people have multiple accounts (2, 3 or even 4). So the new MMORPGs will probably be 15$ or a little bit more.

I feel thats its uncalled for. They will make a killing in cash buy just charging 9.99 like they did before, but they are all greedy and will charge 15+

I can guarentee EQ2 will be somewhere around $15US a month, Why? Because it's SOE. They are driven by greed. WoW on the otherhand was originally going to try to be free (charge for software only), but for whatever reason, they aren't (probably Vivendi's doing). That being the case, they STILL stated they are going to try to stop the constant upward trend in pricing for MMOs. I'm thinking between $10-12 per month. Maybe less. I'm not sure, and they've anounced nothing. Just wait and see, and just maybe, it'll be REASONABLY PRICED.

SOE makes decent games that appeal to nerds. Their customer service is run by jocks who bully nerds. Wonder why SOE sucks so bad...

Lol.. where on earth did you hear that Blizzard was trying to make WoW free monthly? SOE has already announced EQ2 will be $15 a month, and I would bet WoW will be in the $14-$15 range as well(they might undercut EQ2's price by a buck. ::::35:: ).

You must not have been paying much attention to the development of WoW then. Back shortly after beta when someone asked how much would it be, they replied, "Right now, we're unsure of how we're going to bill. It may be just for the software, or there may be a monthly fee involved. We're currently considering all options, and due to many players complaining about rising fees, we'll try to keep it free, or if not free, as cheap as possible." It was something close to that. If you don't believe me, ask some of the original beta testers for World of Warcraft. They'll tell you the same thing. I expect WoW to be the cheapest on the market, to be honest. IF (and that's a big if) it is around $15 a month, you can bet your ass the expansions will be a part of that monthly fee. Hell, they may already be planning that!

It would be nice to see a game that doesnt want a fortune monthly.....

Not that 15 bucks is exactly a fortune but hey I figure they got 50 bucks from everybody for just the game. If a game has enough subscribers (if its a good game then it will) I dont see why 10 bucks a month shouldnt be plenty of money.

They charge us for all the content anyway. I would figure on both EQ2 and WoW coming out with expansion packs in about 8 months after the release which will cost us another 35 to 50 bucks. At least once a year we can expect to see another 30 to 50 dollar expansion that we HAVE to buy if we want access to new content.

I think they make lots of cash off us gamers and I dont believe them for a second when they start crying poor. Like they only make enough to break even. Its BS gentlemen wake up and smell it.

Yep. the MMORPG business is very greedy. The day i will stop playing MMORPGs is when the price goes over 20 dollars a month unless the game is GODLIKE.image

How much is EQ1 now? 12-15 if I remember correctly.

How much did it use to be? About 9.99.

Why do companies raise the prices? Not because of the cost in technology, or development. But because they can, and because of greed.

hey, did you guys also notice the price of bread go up form 25 cents to a dollar, or minimum wage go up?
or maybe you noticed the proce of houses going up? computer games?

everything goes up slowly. If it stayed the same, fresh bread would still be 5 cents.

after 6 or so years, I had to change it a little...

Uhm. Up 5 dollars in four years? If it took about 15 for this to happen. It'd be understandable. (Or well, it was 7 years, not four. But none-the-less. It seems every year or so it goes up 1 to 2 dollars. That is absurd. Things usually go up through inflation, and when the price of bread went up from 25 cent to a dollar, minimum wage goes up from 1 dollar to 5. Etc.

The time period of 10 to 15 is not fitting well in the market. Because lets face it. As long as I can remember games were 30-$50, depending on game. And it still is)

Not sure where you heard that WoW was going to be free, but I can assure you they planned on charging a monthly fee from the start.  Why would they want to make a persistant game, and lose money?  Blizzard may have better CS than SOE, but they aren't crazy.

If Blizzard stated it may be free, then it slipped past me, and I followed it pretty closely. Not saying you are wrong, just saying I never read it anywhere.  Keep in mind though, they may make money on people buying the game, but they still have to pay for there servers every month, not to mention pay for their constant staff.  They have a good bit of overhead.  All MMOs do, at least the good ones, the ones that can substain a nice size player base.  What would happen when Blizzard used up all the money that they received from the customer's initial investment? That's called diminshing returns.  They would have to pay out of pocket, and I don't think any company is that nice.
