What is Wintergrasp?
Wintergrasp is a world PvP zone (designed for lvl 77-80), Features a keep at the North end that the Hord and Allaince fight to control. Whom ever controls the Keep gets access to Special Vendors and quest givers, Access to a Raid Dungeon and Memeber of the controlling faction gets a world wide +EXP buff.
How does it Work?
The Zone has graveyards and seige work shops spread out around the Zone who ever has control of these gives obvious benefits. Every 30mins the segie workshops become capturable and the attacking force has 45mins to take the KEEP. The attackers have to use seige weapons to break through the outer wall(s).. then the inner wall(s) and then the Keep door... behind which is some giant ball thing.?!!?
Failing to take the keep in the 45mins means the defender get to keep it and another battle starts 30mins later.
If you faction is out numbered you get a +HP and +ATT BUFF to help.
My Thoughts
I just so happened to come across a wintergrasp portal in Dalaran so off I went. I arrived and there was 6mins untill the battle started.. I headed for the keep and came across horde and allaince having a scrap about 30 players or so. I was only lvl 72, most of the hord were high 70's or 80 so I just picked off the weak ones. Before I knew it battle had kicked off. I ran the closest seige workshop to see what it was all about.
There are currently 3 land vechicals in WG,
1. mechanical ram - carries 3 payers, 1 operator 2 others hide inside and can jumpo out at will.
2. Catapult #1 - 1 person vechial that launches posion barrels and a cone of fire in front of it.
3. Catapult #2 - 3 person vechial, the driver drives and operates the catapult, 2 others stand on the sides and can use their normal attacks (only realy good for range classes)
Players can jump in and out of the vechials at any time and also swap position just like BF1942.
Alliance held 4 seige workshops and could build a max of 16 vechicals, players had to be a certain rank to build vechials, rank earned by killing players in WG.
There were only a small number of players about 20-25 allaince and a similar number of horde so the battle was very concentrated on the western side of the keep.
First impressions this is great, feels good and reminds me so much of WC3... but as will all siege style gameplay it will live or die on the number of players who participate, the more the better. No game does siege like this.

I must say, even though i have grown tired of wow, Wotlk is shaping up to be a better expansion than TBC. Heck, I may have to reinstall WoW (again)

Must say that i am looking forward to this expansion more and more each week. Wintergrasp looks like it will recapture some of those old prime time large scale battles that used to be played out at Crossroads and such, but with a new level added to the gameplay. Great stuff.

So say the Hord wins... and they leave to go to their new raid zones... how long does the Raid zone stay open to them? 30 mins plus the 45 mins for the battle? Or until they are done with the zone?
I just hope that over half of them (the winning side) doesnt just pick up and leave so they can do those new quest/raids.

I just can imagine what this is going to be: best PvP ever.
BTW just came off a rather long fight over the Towers in Terrokar Forest. Great fun when it happens. And won of course after half an hour ))
Thats what I thought, there is no way to get there on foot, but there is a flight point once your there that links to other points. So I guess If blizzard take away the portal in Dalaran on live servers a lock could summon you up there.

wow, this may jack up wow to 13 mill subs. All the freshmen at the local highschool just started playing wow. The best buy here doesn't even sell war.
The thirty minutes between seiges is still in flux. They moved it to 4 hours to give the winning side more time to do the quick raid. The raid isn't really like a raid.. you don't have to have a super organized group to beat it. Think of it more as Drek or Vann in AV, except it drops great pvp loot. You run in, identify who the tank will be, and give him 2 or 3 healers, and basically thats all that is needed. Its more just a mechanism for giving players loot for winning WG then it is a new 'dungeon'.
I think the timer between sieges will probably be closer to 2 hours in final. 4 hours was too long and made you feel like the zone was just another BG. you fight for 45 mins, then wait 4 hours?
So do both Alli and Horde storm the keep at the same time? and whoever kills the main guy wins? I haven't kept up on it lately cuz im playing a different game now.
one faction owns the keep the other assaults it. I guess when the realms go live it will be random who owns the keep or maybe even an NPC army will such as the scurge.. who knows.
If you die at Storm peaks your spirit can fly. So just de on purpose and go to Wintergrasp, be carefull not to go near Dalaran area or your spirit will just become a normal one without the ability to fly. you can then spirit res at a GY inside wintergrasp.
Awesome, only took them 4 years and a threat from warhammer to make a "good" pvp area. Only downside, is that as usual, the unemployed with tier 80 gear will still 2 shot you. *yawn* enjoy.

1. The difference between basic BG gear everyone can have and the highest Arena gear is 3%. So Wow is even less dependant on the highest level than the combined effect of WAR's stats (renowned + gear stats).
2. Just like a WAR lvl 33 can be shot in a few seconds by a lvl 40 character in WAR
Open up your eyes and look: which game is the standard to meet: the one WITH the dynamic sieges, mobile weaponry (like tanks, siege artillery) and REAL destructable walls or that game where everything is static knocking on doors and doesn't even allow a wall to collapse.
RvR? a gimic, the players don't even care: they just want to level and bash some heads.
BTW: The one who controls the Keep in War's LW gets control over it for the next 4 hours and becomes the defender of the castle the next battle.
3%!? lol. What do you define as basic BG gear, tier 6?
The fact is the demographic of WoW is the casual. A lot of casual players will get to level 70, will probably have picked up greens, maybe a few blues... The difference between the casual that just hit 70 and dude with the highest arena gear is astounding. Mr arena gladiator will probably have double the health and hit for four times the damage.
was in the beta, played wintergrasp, was highly unimpressed. I think it would be MUCH MUCH better if they would fix some classes. Until class balance issues are fixed (And I actually mean fixed, not 1 month the warlock is god then the resto druid the next) the I see this as their way to "attempt" compete with WAR for RVR-type battles. Besides only 1 area to fight in is rather boring. Now if there were 3 or 4 then It would probably be ok (for the most part) but how long before people will get sick of battling for 1 area for a buff (probably a negligable one) that concerns an entire continent and is done once every 4 hours?

You are grasping for air. World of Warcraft has been out for 4 years, offered a pointless open pvp system that was completely flawed, wow look at me, I sit here and watch a bar fill up... ohhh look, a level 70 with a flying mount. WAR just launched, and in tier 3 alone, there are 18+ battle objectives, keeps and INSANE amount of OPEN RVR that has a point, not to mention 6 instant scenario queues, in just tier 3 ALONE. All of which, have a different objective, I have only come across one scenario which I don't like. In WoW, the battlegrounds, I hated all of them, why? because minimal gains.
It doesn't matter that ANYONE can get the gear, because the gear is not 3% worse and/or better. You take someone in tier4 gear fighting someone in tier 1, then come back and tell me it's only 3% better, I beg to differ.
Face it, world of warcraft is designed by previously unemployed/part time working hardcore EQ raiders ( I should know, I used to raid with Furor a.k.a Kalaran before I went to college). Granted, World of Warcrat raiding is more casual than old school EQ's raiding, but it still requires a huge amount of time. Remember the old curse mod that got removed that linked with xfire and showed play times? The top tiered pvpers and raiders had an average of 16 hrs a day played. AN AVERAGE.
This game has a casual soft and delicious outer shell, but once you bite in it's as hardcore as a diamond and limits the normal player by offering small and minimal pointless gains. Atleast in Warhammer, you are PART OF ONE SIDE and people actually care and work together.
Bottom line, WAR is what WOW should've been, atleast in their PVP regard. Why do you think suddenly they care about pvp more and hijack direct ideas from previous games and then claim " unique " credit for them?. Meh whatever, will stay in WAR, less kiddies to worry about.

I didn't ask you to read it nor do i care what you think. But before you comment you may want to get an idea on things and actually read. I used WAR once and that was simply to illiustrate why Wintergrasp and siege items went in (which btw where announced for future plans four years ago). No where did I mention how WAR PvP is great and WoW is weak nor did i compare the two PvP wise. I simply stated how unimpressed I was with wintergrasp. PvP can't and should never be tacked onto a game that was made for something else(PvE) because it just ends up being done half-assed, which is pretty much WoW's PvP How many times has AV been changed now?. I also do not have to prove anything to you. I was in the beta, I did play wintergrasp and I know first hand what it will be like, fun for a few hours/days/months then it will die down and no one will care anymore. As far as talking about more area's at least if they had 3 or 4 then players would have a choice of where to go for open world PvP and things wou;dn't become stagnent...right now there is one and only one.
Oh and I can describe the beta...WEAK! As of now that is how I see WotLK. I played my shaman, druid, mage and warlock in the beta and played up a death knight. WotLK is MUCH better than TBC was but it still isn't up to par on what it could be.
Shaman's for instant got 4 new spells hex (which has been asked for for years), Everliving weapon which isn't too bad if you like playing resto but not my cup of tea, multiple changes to a great elemental tree to make it crap (Yeach cause thunderstorm going from 20 ft to 6 ft is going to keep melee out of our range huh?) At least enhance got some nice tools.
Druid's are druids....take that as you will.
Mages got 1 whole spell (frostfire bolt) and finally the rest of their spec lines became somewhat useful instead of every mage being ice (though most still will be)
Warlock were nerfed to not be gods? I dunno about you but my S3 geared warlock can tear through most S4 classes.
Then there is the death knight...wanna talk about overpowered? Maybe not at endgame but just coming out of the gate there is no way a comperable level class will be able to successfully defeat DK one on one, they're just too powerful. I believe this just goes to show Blizzard's wonderful class balanacing abilities...maybe Kalgan is planning to play a DK at release which is why they're so strong. God knows he increases the classes power depeneding what he is playing that month.
Then there is the quite pitiful lore that was written in on how the death knight came into game...Lore whores will be spinning around when they see that one. Giant mess. I mean come on...you mean to tell me that people who lost their willpower and went to darkness are going to immedialy come back from that because of some dead guy talking to his son...what they feel bad and have a change of heart because they saw a noble ghost...these are people who lost their souls...feeling an emotions should have gone out the window to. They listen to the lich king. Aren't his DK's suppose to die for him? No get all pissed because he used them to suit his own ends...i mean how dare he...gimme a break!!!
So before you go around calling anyone else immature you may want to read a post fully before you comment on it kid!!!
So Calibek, you wanted all those things in WoW for so long, and now that you finally got them, they suddenly suck, and not because they suck, but because it took them this long!?
As long as there are AFKers in BGs, then they won't reach their full potential.
