The end of the year is approaching rapidly and the time to put up or finally shut up is also fast approaching for the DF boyz and all their cronies. So I am assuming that DF will somehow manage to complete the following list before the end of the year without any issues: 1. Announce an actual date for a public Beta to start which they do not even have yet 3 months from a supposed commercial launch which in itself is beyond hilarious but......moving on. 2. Meet that Beta date and actually start a Beta. 3. Fix any issues that may a pop up during that Beta. This game and it's tech have NEVER been tested in a real world environment yet with thousands of concurrent outside connections. 3. Announce an actual date for commercial launch. 4. Meet that date and launch. All in the next 3 months. Sounds funny. Yes? I'll let you imagine the type of madness that will ensue when / if they actually finally decide to grow a pair and allow thousands of people from the public to play test this and write their reviews. I'll be here with my pop corn when that happens.

3) You have 3 listed twice. See 1 and I am sure that a date will be forthcoming.
4) I am positive they wont meet the launch date. They are a rookie development team with limited funds; thus 7 years of development with many missed dates. If you expected better than you are ignorant. Now after stating this one thing is different this time than any of the others; This time they have sign a contract with another entity which puts them on a timetable.

Tasos Flambouras: In very simple terms, it's not so much as Darkfall having a hard time securing a publisher as it is that publishers have had a hard time securing Darkfall. I'll explain: We do have the capability to self-publish, so the competition to any publishing offer, aside from other offers, is our own plan for self-publication. In our self-publishing scheme we hire the same services that most publishers use so in effect "cutting out the middleman" is usually to our advantage, especially since as a newcomer in the gaming industry it's rare to get a fantastic deal. Furthermore, getting a publishing deal isn't crucial to us in regards to development, and we won't just jump at offers. We have the "luxury" to try to do what's best for the game in this context. That being said, we have been and still are in discussions with publishers who present a good and viable alternative to our self-publishing plan.

They had no ad campaign, they spent next to nothing on selling the game. They have one of the most loyal fanbases ever, and they probably dont need a big name publisher. This "overhyped junk" will be the perfect example of "getting it right" in an MMORPG made for PvP oriented players. It has gotten this much hype by word of mouth for a reason. http://forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php?p=1740002#post1740002 Did you even look into this game properly? They can do the beta so close to a 'release' because they've already got rid of the bugs / majority of them and they've tested for lag by having hundreds fight in one location. All I believe they need to do now is 'stress test' it or something even though they are using state of the art serves and a leading service. Then again I'm not a professional but that's what I've heard.
I don't really buy that. An alpha is fine but a quite long beta is needed because real players do a lot of things a dev wont think of and have all different kinds of computers. how long beta did WAR have? 9 months or something at least. AoC had almost as long and both game were still released too early.
I'd say that 6months beta at lest is needed unless the darkfall guys are the best programmers there is. And since DF seems to have been in development for quite a long time I really don't see why they have to rush the beta either, unless they need cash really fast and that usually backfires.

Well currently they are ahead of AoC. In february they were feature complete (all features in game) where as AoC and many other mmorpgs dont have all features in at launch, and usually havent fixed all issues 2 years after release.
So it would be unfair to expect DF will have all bugs fixed at launch.
Anyways I wont be here on boards anymore when game launches, so have enjoy your popcorn.
Stop trying to claim they are "feature complete". Until the game is here and we can see it for ourselves, no game should be able to make that claim. Too many games have made that "feature complete" claim that has later proved a lie the last few years. If a company does make that claim, and gamers find out later that it was a lie, we should all be able to get a full refund from where we purchased the game. Unfortunately, here in America, when you open the software you can no longer get a refund for the product because there is no verification that you have not used the key that came with the game. Unfortunately, AoC was legal robbery with no legal recourse in America.

wouldnt be wise to bet me would it

How is it that people can't undestand the need to NOT have a publisher? It insures that Aventurine will have full artistic rights, and that's most important. Otherwise, release dates will get pushed and we'll have an unfinished game.
Plus, they will retain the money from sales, as opposed to about 70% of it going to the publisher.
A publisher isn't much different than a record label. The artist doesn't see shit for a long time.
Oh man, even if Darkfall does see an actual release, it's going to suck so bad and be missing probably 3/4 of the promised features.
I cannot wait to read these fanbois' posts here after the poo doo hits the fan, it'll be an apocalypse of comedy.
You know, technically, I'm a Darkfall fanboy. I love what the game is supposed to be, the idea of it... I just think it's vaporware and that, on the slim chance it actually sees release, won't deliver most of what it promised.

because there games wasnt feature complete before public beta started so in turns they add a feature they break more yea when you doing that it takes along ass time to fix it.
becaue you keep breaking more things as you add things

If the game is not presented to its specs, then it's not the fan's fault. Theyre just looking for something different than all these shit MMO's coming out that a fucking 6 year old could play and prosper in.
IF the game is generally presented as promised, you will play, and you will love it. Thats all that matters.
not dissin Darkfall at all but MMO's in general. seems to me alot of these Betas have done nothing to solve many of the big problems (Vanguard, AoC, WAR) and its a mad rush after release to fix problems that really, really should have been fixed beforehand. maybe they need longer closed or open betas or maybe longer testing overall. i dunno but if WAR and AoC could not polish their measly amount of content (compared to Darkfall) i dont see Darkfall being released (in the next 3 months) without some or many bugs and problems...
MMO wish list:
-Changeable worlds -Solid non level based game -Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

Exactly. Theyve spent years polishing this game, and has been in closed beta throughout 07-08. Theyve probably worked out almost all of the bugs already.
The plausibility of vaporware is non-existant. This game was highly anticipated for too long to fall apart. Once they launch, they will already have hundreds of thousands who will buy it shortly after. Friends will tell more friends, reviews will speak for themselves and attract more and more.
Provided all features are delivered, this game will shock alot of haters.

I'm new to posting here but I've been following Darkfall for years. A couple points and corrections on this topic that many seem to be confused about:
First, the recent video that came out is NOT anywhere near game quality. Instead of analysing bit rates and translation methods, watch the video, and when the inventory screen comes up with mounds of text, pause it, put on your best reading glasses and tell me what they say. I was able to make educated guesses on two or three very intuitive words on my 42" 1080p monitor. Or are you going to claim that the DF Dev team decided to use gibberish for its text to add to the game's imaginative role-play value, lol. Keep in mind the Devs have stated more than once that the English alphabet will be the only one DF supports. If you want a feel for the graphics, do not go to the site-test videos or any of the other videos, just look at the high-res screenshots - that's the closest you will come and even that won't be up to the actual quality. I too was skeptical of the graphics before I took another look and realized what was going on with the losses.
Second, as to the question of fixing supposed mounds and mounds of bugs in time for launch, a quick reminder: this game was built from the ground up. That means that they built the 3D rendering software and engine entirely themselves, so there will be ZERO compatibility issues in the code because there is nothing to be incompatible. The vast majority of bugs in games like this result from miss-matches between competing software codes that were never originally intended to work together but that were retro'd to work - namely, graphics "engines." This is not a problem in Darkfall, so you will not see the same exploits and bugs emerging in substantial quantities like you do in other MMORPG releases. This is PART of the reason the game took over seven years. Now, however, they are blessed to know the ins and outs of every aspect of their game code, and there will be no part of it that the Devs cannot improve upon with relative ease at a later date/expansion/monthly update.

What the fucking hell are you talking about? LOL
You think just because people code their own software that it's going to be bug free?
Let me give you a reality check.
THERE WILL BE BUGS IN THIS GAME AND TONS OF THEM
This is not my personal opinion - this is 100% FACT.
And in reality (not in Darkfall fanboy dream land) this game will have even more bugs and issues than one that was built using proven / tested tech like Hero Engine or Big World.
The technology these guys built is totally unproven in every single aspect.
You "CANNOT" test a piece of software for bugs and issues that is basically on the same scale as an operating system and is meant to be used by thousands of people with a handful of people sitting in some office room somewhere.
The total ignorance and blind optimistic following this game has is completely dumbfounding. The fans of this game have totally lost all common sense and reason because they want this thing to succeed so badly.
Your just setting yourselves up for some major let downs with this way of thinking.

This.
I'm saying the game will NOT be out this year. A game meant for thousands, but only tested by hundreds won't work when it's actually released.
AND if it does actually come out.. it will be unplayable. Why? Because some guy will figure out how to exploit something for his benefit. Probably using common tricks (packet analization, trying to "break" the client, basic speed hacking (GEAR!).. stuff like that.)
I will not buy an untested game. I don't need to test it (I didn't test AoC), but it HAS to be tested my a bunch of STUPID people. Because those are the people who will play it and break it.
The question comes down to the quality of the programmers they've hired. Good programmers check their work as they code it, over and over again, as each line is added. This greatly reduces end-state bugs but greatly increases production time. Most coders who are working with code that they did not create do not have the same sense of "ownership" of the code and do not understand the subtle nuances of it nor the elegance of it. If you've ever coded, you know that the only one who truly understands it is you, while others may see it and grasp its purpose, they don't "get it" like you do. You may have no idea what I'm talking about so if this falls on deaf ears I won't be surprised. The bottom line is that ground-up games always take longer to produce but, if the coders are worth their salt and care about their product, have far fewer bugs to work out, and when they do find bugs, they are far more efficient in fixing them.
Also, GEAR and anything similar will not work in Darkfall. If you studied the game at all you would know this - one of the Devs was Black Rose from Darktide on Asheron's Call (you should know this since apaprently you still play it) and one of the biggest problems with that game was all the gearing going on. It is specifically being programmed so that such exploits will not function.

And since DF seems to have been in development for quite a long time I really don't see why they have to rush the beta either, unless they need cash really fast and that usually backfires.
because there games wasnt feature complete before public beta started so in turns they add a feature they break more yea when you doing that it takes along ass time to fix it.
becaue you keep breaking more things as you add things
You have not got a clue and the minute you said probably well the post has no value. What is a comedy is the standard of trolls such as yourself are failing badly and thats where the comedy is right here right now.

-Changeable worlds
-Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

Hehe yes. In fact creating an MMO is very simple:
1. Design.
2. Code.
3. Alpha test.
4. Beta test.
5. Launch.
Don't know why it takes years to do that and so much money
Why arent you making games then?
playing: darkfall
waiting: earthrise
because they kept addingin features when public beta is going hence breaking more things they they fixed
De-fluffed Translation:
No real Publisher was interested in publishing our product as is therefor we were forced to self publish and to settle with cooperating with some unknown Greek DVD distribution company who is experiencing problems with piracy and lost revenues because of piracy and therefor were looking into testing the waters in a new market which they have absolutely no experience in to try and stop the bleeding.
People judge this game for what it offers and what theyve seen in minimally edited gameplay videos. Not by some overhyped commercial with Mr. T in it. FFS accept the fact that this game will be different to the Fisher Price style of most recent mainstream MMO's, and will be successful for that reason alone, among many others.
Ive played dozens of MMOs, and experienced the very hardest endgame in more than a handful. My opinion wont affect anyone elses, but millions will enjoy this game regardless of how much you cry on an internet forum.
How in the world do you know if theyre getting it right? YOu havent played it, youre making a guess. So many people think that what they want from Darkfall is reality. Just because you wish Santa Claus is real doesnt mean he is.

Irony... IRONY.
