Im gessing you were not in a guild? nor had friends on your friends list?, And that you where level what 10-11 tops?..Maybe killing people 5-6 levels lower then you?.. i only ask this beacuse im not sure how after one day of decent pvp you know how the game will "pan out". If you are as hardcore as you say with pvp then there is a ton of stuff to do But oh well WAR isnt ment for everyone, to each his own i gess.
Level 19, RR 15 and in a guild. I've had multiple 'decent' PvP sessions, this one just stood out. But you raised a good point, is there truly a ton of stuff to do, really?
I like the game, but I can't bring myself to play it anymore, just feels so much like familiar territory, like I've done this all before, somehow hard to explain, but I can see a lot of posters here that feel the same.
Kinda glad i seen this post, because i'm feeling the same, bought my CE, didn't get sucked into the hype like other's, just wanted to try something new. Lotta fun at first then i started noticing things that bug me---but i do this to all games heh---anyways, lots of things i enjoyed, would love to keep doing PQ's but not enough around to do them. So here i sit at lvl 12 trying to get some PQ's finished and i just can't find anyone around (i'm on Phoenix Throne)...meh i'm just blabbing now but honestly i havn't had the urge at all to log into WAR for the last 2 days, even today i probably won't.

One thing I am really missing is the zone or General chat. Not that I am a "chatty cathy" (tm) . But I do like to joke around. Sorry class clown here....

At 1st this game was ok was enjoying it but nothing great but once i got past lvl 13 and joined a guild things started to pick up. Having a great time attacking keeps and defending them when we have one. its great to pour boiling oil down on a bunch of destruction players trying to smash the keep door in. I also like that the fact you will never know what you might find around the corner in this game like for example i've found a hiddden lair that you have to figure out the puzzle before you can unlock the door so you can get in to the hero boss. There is so much to find and do in this game its not just about the pvp.
Eve, fun till I had to wait four months to level one skill! Not too mention my corp would not give me a hand cause I started too late!
What skill, Titan level V? That won't even take that long. Plus 95% of corps don't care when you started if you can fill a role and have some decent experience in gameplay.
I REALLY REALLY enjoyed RvR, but having to wait a couple hours to get into a scenerio kind of sucks. I'm a grouping person, I really loathe soloing... I know it's a necessary evil sometimes, but I like to have options.
Queue times for scenarios have dramatically improved on my server now that you can join all of them from any zone within your Tier. I can just do scenarios now if I want for the first time since I bought the game, getting in to one every 30 seconds or so.
The problem for me is similar to yours with the lack of people on lower pop servers and the long queue times to get in a higher pop server. It's a no-win situation. Either I play in zones that feel ridiculously barren or I have to wait an hour+ to even play. I think if they fixed one of those issues, I would be having a lot more fun.
I got bored of WAR after about a week! looked good in theory but in execution was poor at best imo.
I was thrilled about playing a true RvR-game but I don't have any fun. It's hard to explain. No gear grind, I don't have to play 24 hours a day and i can PvP from level 1. It's everything I want but the fun isn't there and I can't say exactly why.
Is it the execution or the design? I don't know.
edit: Mrvicchio posted something that might be the reason why I don't enjoy war as much as I thought I would. I don't know, but check the t hread out .
Played the OB and decided I'd give the game a week or 2 post release just to see where it went. I see a few of my friends playing it and half of them are logging in religiously while the other half is luke warm to the whole idea and on the verge of just stopping the subscription.
I grabbed one of their accounts and played for a week because they wanted to just take a break and now I just feel that it's just not right for me. I can't put my finger on it but something is off, the whole feel of the game is not right for me. Armed with this new experience I've decided not to get it. Perhaps somewhere down the road I might pick it up but I hold no hopes for it.
I'm just kind of glad that there are other people that have similar feelings.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
Playing since over a week and was not satisfied at all, lack of immersion, dont like the pvp style that much and feels not alright, classes are unbalanced, pve is boring and performance is really bad sometimes, feels like a single player game sometimes and the community is not that much noticeable especially in chats. Iam disappointed in general and will not subscribe after the 30 days.
Did i mention that i have to wait sometimes 1:30 Min just for the login onto the server ...thats ridicioulos, RvR almost does not exist on lower lvls up to lvl 20, the people just do szenarios and lvl up. Maybe the endgame offers more RvR and battles are great, but the szenarios are poor in comparison to worldofwarcraft battlegrounds.
Seems like after more than 10 years the mmorpg industry cant deliver any new ideas, content or really exciting gameplay. The games concentrate more and more on graphics and the content stays always the same or is very similar to all rpgs out there. Maybe the industry want to concentrate only on the very young ones and just repeat their business idea with common and old ideas. Anway, a lot of us is already old enough and expirienced with mmorpgs to press the uninstall button and know what games nowadays deliver often. A lot of flops in the last 3-4 years, a lot of hope which got not fullfilled with many game releases...
I think this is a great game. I love the classes. The racial pairing feel just right. The PvP is the best i've experienced (including EQ, EQ2, LoTRO, and WoW). I feel like the art is exactly what it should be. The PvE does need some work, but my wife is all over the PQ's, and that's good enough for me.
At points in time this genre will continue to diverge into different playstyles. For me, LoTRO and WoW were not it, but WAR is exactly what i've missed since ....well since i've been playing MMOs
I know it ain't for everyone, thankfully, but holy crap I hella dig this game.
Felt this way about LoTRO, but not WAR. I think this is a great game. I love the classes. The racial pairing feel just right. The PvP is the best i've experienced (including EQ, EQ2, LoTRO, and WoW). Iam jelous now, but happy there are some around who really like the game, wished i could find a new mmorpg which i would love again but in the last 3-4 years almost every mmorpg which got releases was utter crap or just the same old shat for my taste unfortunately. I gueass i just grow out of mmorpg games since nothing really new got released.
Unfortunatly feeling kinda the same way due to the population problems I rarely see any RVR going on and most just do scenarios. While they can be fun I dont really see a reason to pay 15 dollars for instanced PVP. I can do that in other games if I wanted to and most of the keep seiges I have done are very one sided. I am sure there are exceptions for people but I dont see a reason to do the BFO's as the renoun gear is horrible and can be aquired through scenarios anyway.
Yes at higer level you need a keep to buy it but there are so many keeps anyway there is always atleast one that order controls. I thought about playing Destro but stomping people in open RVR due to more numbers also seems lame. I have gotten my Runepriest to 27 and I am starting to notice that most of the time there is a lack of healers for Order also. I know that for me it is depressing seeing a DPS class 3-5 levels lower than me killing mobs faster than I can so maybe that is why.
Basically I feel that a game based around the sucess of population is failing most on this point. I just dont see how Destro wont dominate the endgame which they obviously have more numbers for. It would suck IMO to get to 40 only to just be doing scenarios since the endgame RVR will be onesided. Maybe this will change but I dont see alot of people deciding to switch to Order to even it up. Also the Destro will become boring as well as there wont be enough Order to kill since they will all be in scenarios.

I might have missed someone else mentioning it, BUT.....what it seems everyone keeps missing is teh ability in this game to take over the areas, and as that progresses, you eventually are able to attack either sides main city.
The closest thing in comparrison to this type of epic seige battles, and taking over (for example) a province, then a "state" and so on, until able to actually lay claim to an entire territory is Dark and Light, which was obviouslly a failboat.
If you are in a guild, great, as this woul dbe key.....as well as alliances, et see some of you all actually get to this point, and THEN lay out the judgements.
From my experience thus far, most of the player base doesn't yet grasp this aspect of the game, you can deffinetly tell the WoW players, as all most of them do is stand around waiting on Scenarios to queue up.
To the OP, at least you went out and did (more) while waiting for your scenario queue to come up, but I invite folks to look at the game with their blinders off! The trailer vids tell you what "the goal" is, hehe.....it is not just ad hype. As you can take over teh known world in this game as it were.
I am also confident that Mythic, after seeing how the player base progresses and "makes" their experience "grow", they too will have a better idea in how to expand their game.
Heh......it is RvR, and REAL RvR at that.....you can also tell the people used to getting to max lvl and want to gear out for end game all to well as they think the guy next to them is "butting in" when they attack the same mob, so on......all the class roles are there for a reason if you see a tank getting waylayed, and your a healer, just because they aren't in your grp, or you don't know them, SO what.....throw that heal to them, as they ARE part of your realm!
I think once folks stop making the comparrisons to this game or that and actually get the whole concept, and all aspects of WAR, you will all be getting a much richer experience from it....
Sounds like you focused only on PvP and RvR, never letting yourself immerse in the setting. Then, you hit a personal Zenith, when you scored higher than peers in a scenario. If some score is all you play for, no wonder you might hesitate to log back in after your "perfect performance".
This says nothing about the quality of the game. It does suggest your playstyle may not really be suited to MMORPGs, unless you can get past the "all time best score" mentality.
MMORPG players always hit walls. If you played a game long enough to hit a wall, it probably was a fairly good fit for you. When it happens, it's time to examine why you hit the wall. Did you run out of content? Are there other ways you can play the game to prevent getting stuck in a narrow rut?
It's particularly hard to adjust if you've played another game long term.
The nice thing about WAR, is if you fall into a rut, there are plenty of alternative tracks to tread. I got a little burnt out on Scenarios, so then shifted to completing PQs. Fun and rewarding, a mix of fast paced action when in a good group and slow grind when you are forced to just work Influence when there aren't others about. Got a little tired of that, so I decided to level just on questing for a while. (There is a ton of quality PvE comntent and great back story if you chose to embrace it).
Now, I've learned to mix and match all three approaches to the game, so I don't get stuck in a single rut.
I've also started to play with crafting, which can be time consuming, but an interesting change of pace for those who like to craft.
There are also Tome Unlocks. The game does reward you for exploration. Sometimes I methodically work the map, killing any named mobs I find, getting my first 25 kills on each new Bestiary entry, search for hidden exploration rewards.
It's a vast world. At least five different ways to focus your game play. The racial Tiers are all distinct and there is a large variety of classes.
Many ways to break a rut and start down a new path. Many ways to "mix and match" the way you play.
That's why I like WAR so much. I know I will hit walls, I always do, but there are a lot more ways around those walls in WAR than in any other MMORPG out there right now.
So I had the best fun I had so far with this game a few days ago. I was roaming Order territory with a Dark Elf and ganking/ambushing players whilst queing up for scenarios. It was a blast, particularly the 'world pvp', I was doing exceptionally well because I am by nature a very competitive gamer and in one scenario was miles ahead of anyone else in terms of damage/kills. Which made me log off that day very satisifed because I love to be on top. Anyway the point is I've tried to log in today and yesterday, looked around for about 5mins and just logged off again. I just cant bring myself to play it for some reason. It's almost like I've experienced all the game has to offer and I just don't care anymore. It's like I know how the game will pan out, sort of when you go through halfway of a SP game and just stop playing because you know the rest will be all the same. I remember moment of intense, exhilerating pvp in WoW in the good ole days, and the pvp in this game reminds me of that and even a little bit more... but to what end? Suddenly it all feels pointless.
How can it be that people need to play for 14 days to come to this conclusion?
I guess age and experience do matter. I would have bet 7 days and getting bored was the max for War.
But apparently people are so desperate to like something new, they don't see behind the emptiness of bashing heads.
Yeeeeaah...
Some of us get bored of games quickly and don't particularly like wasting are time until we get to end-game just to see if we will like it or not, because chances are, if you don't like it now you will never like it. It's a video game. Why am I going to play it if I'm not enjoying it? I'll just play another one to be quite honest.
To the OP: I do understand alot of what you are saying. My first experiences were of great fun; I had a blast playing from a DoK, to a WP, then finally getting a magus to T2. But it became very boring very quick and I really doubt that things are going to be getting too much more interesting.
I think one of the biggest problems this game has is that it's advertisement is on huge PvP conflict while the PvP is at par and stale at best, decent fun but nothing ground-breaking or amazing (saying this with all honesty and from my own perspective). I don't see much that this game has to offer to take away WoW players, to be perfectly frank. It has similar PvP but if you are looking for better polish, PvE, raids, story, balance, and basically anything else you can list in an MMO, WoW can do it better. And the only reason I compare this game so greatly to WoW is because of how much this game has been trying to offer itself as the WoW2; it just doesn't cut it in my opinion.

My 2 cents.....
All aspects of war is to take the other sides city. You do it by RvR, the way we do it in scenarios or rvr lakes. That's it. The end game is what we get at level 1 but we have more skills amd the keeps are getting bigger. There's nothing to do but scenarios and they are getting old quick.
Queue times for scenarios have dramatically improved on my server now that you can join all of them from any zone within your Tier. I'm one of those too that simply don't have the desire to log in anymore. I played the last week of open beta up until now. I had a lot of fun doing keep raids, the PQ's, and even some of the uninspiring PvE it has to offer. However, it just feels "blah" to me now, and I really don't know why.
Regarding the population, I had similar experiences to you. If you played on a low to medium population server, que times seem to be quite long, and open RvR is almost non-existant. I had to struggle to find a sizable amount of players to make it fun in the open RvR areas. So then you decide to play on a high population server, but then take the risk of standing in line to log in during peak hours...and that's no fun either.
I don't know what the answer is, but in my uninformed opinion, I really think they need to improve the game code or engine or something so the server population limit can be increased, but still be able maintain game performance.

Maybe WOW does PVE better to an extent but what does WOTLK really bring new to PVE? Nothing its more grind for gear so you can do the next thing for more gear. PVP yeah ok the same BG's forever and leveling another 10 levels doing PVE quests oh never done that before in an MMO.
Dont come here trying to say WOW has what WAR is missing it has the same stuff but only 1 way to level. I enjoyed WOW myself for 3 years but it really is old hat to most players. Dont think its a bad game at all and was my favorite for a long time but after WAR's multiple ways to level I dont see myself ever playing a game like that again.
Actually I think I am just tired of leveling toons in general maybe I need to go back to FPS games. Maybe I just lost interest in MMO's as leveling characters is why I think I lose my fun factor over time.

I think we're thinking the same thing, at least for that last statement. As it is the PvP is exactly the same as the repetitive BGs in WoW, as the scenarios is the BGs mirror. I barely ever see anyone in the open world pvp areas fighting eachother in big battles, like it was described. It might be different once everyone is at end-game, and more people are doing end-game RvR and attacking eachother's main capitals, but as it is I'm simply not seeing anything amazing. I'm probably going to end up not resubscribing once my free month goes out, and possibly resubscribe in a couple months once the end-game RvR is panned out and we have a better idea of how much RvR really will be apart of the game (considering as far as I know, RvR is about all this game has going for it).
So you did even come close to experiencing all of RvR and then you think you experienced all of RvR. You weren't even playing in a team other tan scanrios which is very different or assault a keep or anything.
Of course its going to feel like WoW, if you only do what is in WoW. Have you even looked at a fortress?

I'm probably going to end up not resubscribing once my free month goes out, and possibly resubscribe in a couple months once the end-game RvR is panned out and we have a better idea of how much RvR really will be apart of the game (considering as far as I know, RvR is about all this game has going for it).

The people who say warhammer is shallow, that the rvr is pointless, have either never botherd to look into why they where rvr'ing or refuse to aknowladge the benefits of rvr.
I see a lot of people on this thread trying to pimp other games, it speaks volumes for those who choose to take a close minded and shallow look at a game, then pass of a deeply insightful review by calling the game shallow and pointless rvr/pointless gameplay in general.
in my opinion, nothing is more pointless than jumping into EVE online, afk skilling, all for what, to still be years behind the vets and still be ganked by someone you will never surpass in strength...to me that is the apitamy of pointless.
Warhammer offers an entierly diffrent approach, you can jump right in and have a decent battle without having to spend years afk skilling.
I would suggest looking into the purpose of the open field rvr...its quite entertaining when you know why your defending keeps...other posts have mentioned it and that info is avaliable...i suggest doing some reserch on the game your playing, before discounting it as shallow and pointless.
Suddenly it all feels pointless.
im sure you would feel like this no matter what game you played.

O_o o_O

A solid game, but for some reason I just don't feel like playing.
What skill, Titan level V? That won't even take that long. Plus 95% of corps don't care when you started if you can fill a role and have some decent experience in gameplay.
I got bored of WAR after about a week! looked good in theory but in execution was poor at best imo.
Felt this way about LoTRO, but not WAR.
I think this is a great game. I love the classes. The racial pairing feel just right. The PvP is the best i've experienced (including EQ, EQ2, LoTRO, and WoW).
D

My 2 cents.....

If only SW:TOR could be this epic...
All aspects of war is to take the other sides city. You do it by RvR, the way we do it in scenarios or rvr lakes. That's it. The end game is what we get at level 1 but we have more skills amd the keeps are getting bigger. There's nothing to do but scenarios and they are getting old quick.

So you did even come close to experiencing all of RvR and then you think you experienced all of RvR. You weren't even playing in a team other tan scanrios which is very different or assault a keep or anything.
Of course its going to feel like WoW, if you only do what is in WoW. Have you even looked at a fortress?
