Well DAoC was more of a pve heavy game.

A lot of people like the fact that you dont need to pve grind in order to have a great character.

DAoC was a great game though.

the onl problem i have with that argument though, is that you can PVE, you can pve all you want.  The pve isnt bad either.  Its just the took what they learned from DAoC and game you a game where you make the decison on how you want to play.

THe thing is that most people are choosing to scenario grind, which i can understand, its fun, but i think a lot of people are missing a whole lot of content doing this.  I also think that they are misinformed that scnario grinding is the best way to get renoun points and level, i think open field RvR is much more rewarding, unless your getting spanked, as a side, the whole time.

I just hope they dont take the DAoC route and end up patching in the best equipment as pve drops only.

So many intelligent posts here.  It's a shame that the OP's isn't one of them.

First of all, he makes the assumption that everyone playing WoW either IS a 12 year old, or likes talking to 12 year olds.  I'm a mother of three.  My kids (who aren't really "kids" any more) are 18, 19, and 21.  The LAST freaking thing I want to do is sit around and chat with pre-pubescent tweens and teens.  Ewwww.

I play a lot of different games.  I sub to three of them.  WoW is ONE of those games.  And I assure you, that I do not sit around and talk to 12 year olds all day.  I have far too many other things to do, and the REASON for that, is that I do NOT enjoy PvP BGs.  I have 10 characters, maxed crafters of all but engineering and blacksmithing profs, and rep that I'm working on, because well...I enjoy that.  If the only thing I did in WoW was PvP BGs, then I probably would be FORCED to talk to a lot of kids throughout the hours that I play.

Warhammer appeals to PvP'ers, predominantly, whether they are 12 or 45.  Wow, perhaps, not so much.  I don't know, because that's not MY personal favorite part of ANY game I play.  But frankly, when I pre-ordered WAR, I wasn't expecting it to "be like" ANY OTHER GAME.  I was expecting something entirely new and different other than the fact it was in a fantasy setting.  And I sort of thought it might be the game that WOULD draw me in to PvP.  But I found....that it was more, for me, like a whole lot of SMALL BGs strung together in a linear sort of leveling machine that was tailored to lead me to the next tier.  I only made it in to the Tier 3 zones and honestly.....although I truly tried.....this game just did NOT do it for me.

Of course, since I don't LIKE Warhammer enough to continue after this free month, I will be labeled a hater or a "fanboi" and that is just SO juvenile.  The WAR players that do that, while saying out of the OTHER side of their mouth how immature WoW players are.....should really take a good long look in the mirror.

Why can't people just accept that not everyone is going to love YOUR favorite game?  It doesn't make them idiots.  It makes them....DIFFERENT from YOU.

I can completely understand your disappointment in how the RvR was setup here. I'm a little disappointed myself and was hoping for something more akin to DAoC. I bet if there were no scenarios and just areas to fight in for the whole realm, it would have drawn you in.

For me, WAR is somewhat fun and probably last me a couple months or so, since I really have nothing else to play. It is more fun when I roam the open rvr areas with some friends looking for fights, not having to queue into a scenario.  The battlegrounds in daoc, were basically like the open rvr areas here, a keep to take, no queue, as many people as you want, it just limited the level range.

I keep thinking of going back to daoc, but I hear the population is just so low. Oh well, hopefully something that truly captures me will come along. At least you have other games, lol.

Oh, btw, in WoW, most of my guild were younger than me, but in college around 19-22, and I must say, they were the most immature people I have ever played with.

i label you as in the group of people who consider warhammer as "not their cup of tea"

although the largest diffrence between wow and war isnt the scenario settings, its how you play them.

wow is going to appeal more to those who like to go on solo killing sprees, the classes in wow are not dependent on each other, you got classes like warlocks and paladins which are great at raids/pvp while you got useless classes like mages.  Wow is more for those who like to have that solo ability in pvp.

Warhammer, on the other hand, completely lacks any strong class.  Theres no best pvp class.  Every class depends on others on your team playing their part.  Theres more teamwork strategy required, some people will not like this.  They wil choose a tank, run around scenarios trying to rack up kills, finding out that they cant kill so well.  Mabey they try a melee dps as the pvp class, only to find out that they die too quick.

The problem here is confusion on how the games are entierly diffrent.  Its not even what your doing its how your doing it and how your team is doing it.

I like warhammer because you need to have a real plan, some strategy, even practice with your team, in order to really make a diffrence.

In wow you need the best equipment and the good classes to make a diffrence.

Niether way is better than the other, they are just diffrent, and appeal to diffrent tastes.

oh and when people refer to "the wow kids" they are in fact being literal, the pre-teen wow crowd is infamous.  It has nothing to do with the wow adult crowd.

either way, give your month of warhammer a try approaching it from a team strategy point of view, join a guild, make some plans and it really does change how the game feels.

WAR puts WOW to horrible shame. the t3 keep sieges are purely amazing! i never experienced anything like it in any game ever. we fought for a keep for an hour. most fun i ever had in any game period. reason people are comparing it to WAR because they never experienced a good  keep battle.

  • JonnyBigBossJonnyBigBoss Member UncommonPosts: 702

God forbid it had a good combat system. The combat system gives the game negative over 9000 points.

The number one trend I see people using to defend this game seems to be that people, some how, are just playing it "wrong."  If I can in fact play a MMORPG wrong, there is something fundamentally flawed in its game design.  People aren't playing WAR wrong, some people just don't like the game.  Now, some people are dicks and come on the forums saying how shitty it is so they can get a reaction out of all you (and they do a great job).  What I am tired of is people posting reviews that don't paint WAR in the greatest light but do review the game "respectfully" if you will.  The next five comments on that person's post will be telling them what they did wrong or whatever.  The reviewer didn't do anything wrong, they just don't like the damn game.  When someone thinks it plays like WoW, just stfu because that is how they feel.  No amount of convincing will change peoples' opinions.

I just don't get it.  This forum is for discussing the game, the good and the bad.  So, when someone comes on and is all on WAR's balls about how great a game it is and much they love it, people don't hulk out in nerd rage.  Yet, one someone just as bias comes on bashing the game, some of you feel the need to rip that person a new one.  Hypocrisy much?  Neither perspectives offer constructive feedback because they are so bias, yet only one receives large amounts of negative feedback.   That's just my take on  things.  WAR wasn't my game, but I'm glad people are enjoying it.  Some of you just need to come to terms with the fact that you're going to see the really good and the really bad.

One more question that I've always wondered about in general about game forums:  why do some people feel obligated to flame/defend video games?  Has always seemed rather odd to me.  I can see discussing them, but the flame wars you find on these types of forums in general are rather sad and humorous at the same time.

Putting WOW to shame doesnt mean much, very few MMO's out there DONT put Wow to shame. Why dont u stop comparing War to another game that sucks and try some real mmo's, they ALL put War to shame

If all of these people hate War so much.. Why are they posting on the forums in the first place??  Just wondering.. I'm seeing bored people with nothing better to do with their time.. Shame really..

Go find a game you like.. Go play the game you think is better than war.. Go read a book and stop being a troll so people can post some useful  information on these forums..  Most of these posts are ignored by alot of people anyway because they are tired repeats of what others have all ready said..

And for the "young men" who feel they MUST comment on every post they see wether nessisary or not.. I'm only posting because the server is down for a patch.. I will be back playing and ignoring you in a few hours..

My sentiments exactly. Why people feel the need to continually post the same rehashed negative information and opinionated comments on these forums is beyond me. It's getting to the point where half of these known people's posts i just skim over because i can already guess what they're going to say. Play the game you like and let others do the same i say.

I`m playing WAR and having a blast but that does not imply that the game is perfect. My biggest dissapointment in WAR is scenarios as it drives players away from the World RvR.When you hit Tier 3 the game looks less appealing as it slows down when compared to T1& T2... Chapter 13 PQ in Talabecland is bugged btw.

Is some people playing the game the wrong way?I will probably say yes but is it their fault? It looks like the gaming community has become"jaded" and watched everything up from their high towers. Most previous game has  handheld  player and now Mythic just threw a game which has its end game RvR focused but the road to go there has so many possibilities and choices and some people just feel lost.

There's no best class in WAR,period, deal with it.If you can`t understand that you better play another game.A Tank is Tank and you'll have to work as a team to put him down.I`m a R27 Warrior Priest Grace/Salvation specced, I will survive longer than any other class against any class (except may be the DoK if he/she is a skillful player) but I will die in I vs 1.

We have been capturing/defending and also failing in capturing/defending Keeps with an Alliance guild in Tier 3 on all pairings  and it always saddens me to see  players standing by or running away or simply saying I`m teamed to join Tor Anroc scenarios or say nothing and dissappear instead of help defending the Keep that we are fighting over for the realm.

The game has been released since 3 weeks and Mythic has already two major patch out which means that they are listnening to the community and is also aware of the issues their game have.I would suggest people to level till tier 4 and join the world RvR in the city of Praag and then you'll start to see how big sieging your enemies city will be.

I like WAR because it's not wow. Yesterday I participated in a huge battle which came totally random and it was a great deal of fun. I dont have to be top level to have a chance to enjoy the game in it's depth. I laid siege weapons and we've had overran by the order but the point is that it was instant, random, fun.

If people are saying we're playing the game wrong, how am i supposed to play this game ?

I try to do pq's while being queued for a scenario, usually get stuck on the 1st part as there is no one else around, which make it an awful boring grind.

Also I have been wandering about RvR areas but there is hardly anyone there either.

No clue where people are hanging out atm to be honest. Or are they all locked up in scenarios ?

    So please enlighten me :).

We heard the same complaints about LOTRO and AoC.

To quote GW director and head programmer Jeff Strain: "We are not aiming to take Wows players, because if you love Wow there is only on game for you: Wow. Guildwars 2 targets a different market".

You cant just buy a new MMO and hope it's like Wow but with a bit updated graphics, not even Blizzards next MMO will be like that even if it's Wow 2.

All that said, a good chatting function is actually a good thing for an MMO and I am willing to bet WAR will get a better one in the nearest months. For one thing you could easier get groups and people for PQ, the current system promotes a we and them feeling for players on the same side.

    1. Wow is populated by the largest cross section of gamers of any game, therefore trying to pigeon hole them is pointless.

    2. Generally speaking when people leave a game to try a new game its because they are looking for something their game doesnt provide to their satisfaction.

    3. War has more issues than its crap chat channels, so trying to pin discontent on that solely is full of fail.

    4. Considering Wow is filled with casuals, raiders, former eq1'ers,daoc'ers,ac'ers,and most other mmo'ers trying to pin all that is bad/wrong in the mmo world on them is full of fail. I will say Wow had some of the most inane chat ever to be endured. However i think anyone who played eq1 with its fractionary subs is looing back with rose colored glasses and forgetting how inane its chat was. There may not have been murlock or chuck norris lameness but the nonsensical babble was still there.

    5. If you plan to continue playing Mmo's, get use to the "wow" crowd. Many are longtime players and those that are new members are going to be the fuel for the industry for the next 5+ years untill a new crop begins to emerge.

TLDR: suck it up and get use to the new mmo world or quit for 10 years and hope it's more to your liking.

Actually, the alternative is to find either a old or a very different game. EQ still have quite a few players and UO also so you could go back to them, no wow players there, or at least very few.

This thing might be a generation gap between 25+ players from the old games and wow players, who while they have all ages, still have the biggest amount of young players in the genre.

I may not have said it quite the same way but I do love the "Nancy boy" reference. I have not heard that one in years.

Play War for what it is WAR. It is not: WoW, EQ2, LoTRO, AC, EQ, SWG, FFXI, etc, etc, etc it is WAR. Most complaints about WAR that I have seen are complaining about what WAR is not. Play it for what it is and you might just have fun. If you want to prance around like a little fairy picking peace bloom talking about chuck Noriis play WoW! J/K ( I actually think WoW is a great game but I am glad not all mmos are WoW)

    True there is that :).

My main point is all this anti wow bs isnt really wow related. Wow has the largest amount of ALL players in the genre. Hardcore, casual, raiders, kiddies, it doesnt matter. Trying to pin shortcomings of a game on players nerver works, look at vanguard.

War isnt a terrible game, but it is inferior to Daoc, a game released 7 years ago as well as many others.

It has its place in the scheme of things and im sure many think its the bees nees. Six months from now it might be release quality and content.
