Arena wrecked the game...when they ended any reason to PVE (boring puzzle solving and dying in the process 1000 times for a 1 in 1000 chance at useless gear) by allowing anyone to just show up over time and get the best gear in the game.
They also didn't add what might have saved the game: World PVP and not hello kitty island safety game.
Kiddie game pure and simple in my honest opinion. Really...if you are over 14 years old you should really find a harder more intricate game to play.

Games are supposed to be fun. They do not have to be hard to be fun.
And this is simply a "omg they castrated me, my e-peen is worthless now that everyone have one" thread. Nothing else.
TBC was great, so will WotLK be. Imo.
yes.. BC killed WOW.. WOW went from 7M subscribers to 10.7M subscribers
I bet Blizzard hopes Wrath will kill WOW in the same way.
pure frustration thread
nothing more to say
GIEF WOTLK
I declare this post the winner !
You mean they went from 7M to 10.7M in Gold Farmers..........There is no way this game has grown. They have not put one new server in the game in over a year and half. There are plenty of servers with low pop all the time. You know how many people that play this game two box these days and have multiple accounts. This game may get new accounts but its people that already have an account. This game has lost customers and is not growing in any way.

Wow, do some research before you come in here and try and post what you have absolutely NO CLUE.
Blizzard has not made a new realm in 1.5 years? LOL, Yes they have made realms. In the last quarter blizzard gad 10.7M Subscribers which was not too long ago. People have canceled their sub and a lot of them will re-sub when WOTLK comes out.
Stop trying to dethrone the king, it wont happen.

There is a lot of this going around amongst MMO players, it is my hope that science will someday find a cure.
But I'm not holding my breath.
CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.
Once a denizen of Ahazi
And you believe everything blizzard tells you?

show me the research you did to back up these numbers or are you another wow fanboi who believes everything blizzard says.

Its because these fanbois have no clue, they are protecting a worthless piece of garbage of a game...They must of gave that guy with 36 accounts his own realm. lol
WOW is dead and you fanbois need to get a grip on that carebear game.
As a quality game product WoW is dead from a long, long time. But as bait for the masses it's flourishing.
To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming!
On we sweep with threshing oar, our only goal will be the western shore."
a lot of hate in this thread... i suggest you haters find a game you enjoy or a hobbie.
I have to agree with the OP, I hate wow for what it's done to the mmo, its simplicity, its complete lack of creativity.
Look at this way....just because Dancing with the stars is popular does that make it good?
Britney Spears...Michael Jackson...and any other "pop" act. They're to be forgotton and ridiculed in years to come, and NOT considered classic. This is what happens in our entertainment industry.
Viewers, subs, and any other number that monitors entertainment may not suggest anything about the quality of the product, just that the owners are making mountains of money.
And you believe everything blizzard tells you?
You'd have to be pretty cynical not to believe their figures are accurate. The fact that the game remained in top 10 PC game sales (usually at #1) in most gaming shops for over a YEAR (all other MMOs drop off after a month), should be indication that millions of people bought it.
You can choose to believe otherwise but I think that's being rather silly. Why believe anything anybody says ever? WAR has 500k sales... lies? EQ had 450k subs peak? Lies? Man on the moon? It's all a lie! The denial from haters is pretty damn funny with overwhelming evidence such as the sales figures, the number of realms per region, (at least 500 realms - most MMOs have like 10).
WoW has that many subs, why the denial?
Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...
LOL so true!
Go to any retail site that has a bestsellers list and you will see Wrath as the #1 video game.. and that includes consoles. That is a lot of people who are hyped to buy an expansion.
Go to Xfire and you will see that for 1145 out of the last 1146 days WOW has been the most played game.
Go read the realm forums for any of the 300 servers Blizzard has and you will see a front page of posts made today. You will also see almost every realm forum with a pve progression thread that shows dozens of endgame guilds making weekly progress on each server.
Blizzard is a publicly traded company, they cannot lie about the 10.7M players (5M in US/EU). They cannot lie when in July they said they have the highest # of active subscribers they have ever had.
Every number, those given by a publicly traded company with an outside accounting agency, along with those numbers given by retailers all show that WOW is growing and continues to be one of the best selling games every week.
And your evidence to the contrary is.. i have a friend who heard it from a friend that some guys brother said that some guy has multiple accounts.. and I think WOW has 10 million chinese gold farmers.

I don't see why it really matters. Do any of you play with 10.9million people?
This numbers game gets old fast. Just as old as everyone claiming a game with less than a million subs is a failure.
Unless you are a stockholder in any of these gaming companies all that should matter is that there are enough people to play with. Anything after that is a child's game of "My dad is better than yours!"

You wouldn't understand
Yes and No. Yes, at some point WoW will not be the top of the line game just like known games that were once popular(EQ, SWG...etc) but right now WoW is reaching that point where they are dominating the market that it will be very very hard to compete with the loads of investments and sales pouring into Blizzard right now. WoW will be forgotten someday but you are forgetting Blizzard is going to be around for a verrry verrry long time is where you missed out on your arguement, and they can go on and produce more simplistic mmos to please the customer base that can handle their games.
Movie stars and tv shows rise and fall but companies can rise and keep rising as long their products are selling good and generate more money to invest in newer products. Just have to deal with it I guess, and as time goes on the MMOs will get more complex and crazy and computers are always getting more advanced as we go into the future and hopefully games we will play will not have to use a computer. (haha I wish)
p.s. I welcome your feedback

My take on the original post is that we're discussing quality here, not quantity. I really like the comparison to other mainstream entertainment sources also...so I'll respond to your post in the same terms.
I used the word classic and I still stand by that, the Beatles are considered classic as are Pink Floyd, the Terminator, Batman, and MASH. All of these were very mainstream in their day and thus would support the contention that a mainstream source can appeal to all audiences - even those with high demands.
On the other hand we have Walmart, Mcdonalds, Starbucks, Scrubs, and even Metallica. All of these came into their own with a decent product, good follow up in some manner, and eventually became so mainstream that they could then allow their quality to drop because they had the customer hooked. Another term would be sold out...and this is where I'd place Blizz.
People will often refer to cult classics in regards to movies, music, or shows, and I think the truly great games will fall into this category; twin peaks, a clockwork orange, the pixies. They all remained true to their product and never sold out when it came to their creative practices.
I'd love to see Blizz take their vast pool of resources and get back to their roots, I played WOW myself for 3 years before throwing in the towel. Today I ding around on private servers here and there, not because I love the game so much but because I love seeing what ideas people have that don't have to answer to stockholders.
Look around, no matter what type of business you may choose to patronize it's almost always a given that you'll find the better service and quality with the small guy. Wrath will just be another Starbucks opening in a strip mall near you...
TBC did flush the great game wow was down the drain, but only in terms of what it was before that. TBC negated Azeroth to a leveling grounds and established certain specs as the only spec to succeed in gearing your toon in the arenas.
wow is still the best option out there unfortunately. unless you can handle the frustrations of AoC or EVE is your thing. outside of these and possibly L2 i just don't think there's much worthwhile.
the wow xpac will simply repeat TBC's behavior - they will negate Outlands to a leveling gounds where the gear attained there is meaningless once in the first zone of the new xpac. then everyone will scramble to figure out the one build for their class that succeeds in arenas.
then grind...

Completely understandable. Blizzard knows how to hook up people really good with their games and rehashing the same concepts over and over until it gets really burned out for people. Blizzard will produce alot of new content in WoLTK with similar concepts and it will keep people hooked for a long time. I'm at my 3 1/2 yr mark with this game and the only reason I get hooked because of the huge community base + my dorm is full of WoW junkies haha. Only worry is that it can go too far and ruin the true meaning that WoW was. At least they are trying to improve some of their mistakes at least but we will see what the future holds.

i noticed two compleatly BULLSHIT! things in this post, the OP doesnt allow anyone to disagree...go figure, a noob who cant admit he's wrong by putting anything that disagrees in his pole. and...did ANYONE! stop to look at this noobs join date? 50$ says he joined soley to bash WOW.
breaking news, a brawl broke out between the hogger and arthas the lich king downtown gadgetzan. there where no survivers
Yes TBC killed WoW for the hardcore. I'm casual so I loved it.
Can't wait for WotlK.
P.S: LOL @ the WoW hate. So much bitterness.

Nice reply and i agree....tossing the 10M+ number around is a nice thing for the company to do but as players....
You have like a max of abour 4 to 5k ppl on a server and out of that you may hang out or know about 100 or 100+. So other then a marketing thing the 10M+ really doesnt mean anything as long as you have enough ppl on to play with.
Another Example...
On my server on EQ1 it was not uncommon to have 7 to 10 full raiding guilds raiding at once (each being 72 players ***plus having about 10 to 20 extra ppl sitting outside the zone waiting for a opening***) In WoW it seems that its getting harder and harder to get enough ppl to raid with. May it be because they are bad players.... cant stay on long enough to finish raid.... you cant stand the person..etc etc.
So with 10M+ for some guilds its still a problem getting a raid going. (small in comparison to EQ1 raids)
EQ1 (At its peak) 500k and you had many 72 man raids going on at once and i think max number of players back when i was playing was about 2500/server.
Is WoW dying... not in the least bit.
