First off, the engine they are using, the Hero Engine, is PC only, so they'd have to basically have a 2nd team doing a conversion for it to work on consoles. Secondly, assuming that it is also released on consoles, my main worry is that it'd be dumbed down for console controllers instead of requiring (or even supporting) a keyboard. That would put me off completely. As for "macrotranscams" I will not play anything that uses that, because gameplay won't be about how good you are or how good your guild is, but based on how much money you are willing to spend. There is simply too much temptation for a MMO publisher to screw with drop rates and other things in game to make the non RMT path (if they even offered one) so unattractive as to basically force people to buy crap all the time in order to compete. Not to mention that Devs have the option of obsoleting gear at any time, and you can bet, in a game with RMT that today's stuff for sale via RMT will always be better than last month's. Maybe it's because I'm still so jaded by SOE that I assume that MMO publishers will ALWAYS give in to temptation to screw over their customers when they see a quick buck in it, but it is what it is, and LEC/Bioware/EA WILL have to deal with this, as the bruised and battered SWG community IS going to be the core audience of their new MMO whether they like it or not.
Which is why LA & BW need to create a game in the image of the old Pre-CU. If they do this they with have at least 300k in loyal fans and another 200k that come and go. Lets hope they are looking to go this route.
I can guarantee that they will not take this path. Take it as you will the SWG community was too small to be aimed directly at. True, they may cater to some of what the SWG community is looking for but do not expect a skill based system or an open world.
Tell us why we have no chance of seeing a "Skill Based" system and an Open World? What is driving your points? How can you guarantee such things? Is it just a hunch or can you back your claims with fact.
Because Bioware never satisfied with 300-500k players and they shouldnt
because everything is changing i am sure they will use stuff including properties from a sandbox game, from Pre-CU but this game will NEVER be Pre-CU.
IMHO they are trying completely new things in online gaming and sceneraio and story will be perfect, but they also make a harmony from WoWish or Consolish fast play style and components-mostly for the customers who is under 18, and everybody will find his way in the old republic and believe me this is the best decision IF they would make it true and detailed and well considered. and yes, i am trusting Bioware.
Sum of all fears....if 1) it's a Console Game for PS3, Wii, XBOX or any other Platform other than PC.
Check : You can bet on it it will be at least for 1 Console, they are a commercial developer, plus being aquired recently by EA, they will make sure the game will be available to the wider audiance possible.
2) the combat system revolves around a form of FPS & TPS "twitch" mechanic.
Check: It will be a mix between FPS and the traditional MMO mechanic, let's say closer to AoC than any other game.
3) no open world where almost every area is instanced.
Check: All Bioware RPG are story driven, most of them have a restricted area to explore, they use often invisible walls, as opposed as Bethesda where they leave freedom of movement in Morrowind/Oblivion.
Altough I don't predict they gonna use invisible walls for their MMO, Bioware will make good use of instancing.
4) few customization options for character / skill look and template.
Check: Bioware focus more on the gameplay and story, rather than customization, although in a MMO you need to have lots of armor/clothing, so it won't be that bad.
5) shity, simplistic crafting system where crafters are meaningless and all loot is quested.
Check: They won't complicate the player game experience by adding a distraction to the questing/adventuring.
6) if micro-transactions are in anyway shape or form part of this game.
Fail : They won't do this, as said above, their RPG are story driven, they won't allow having advantages by buying items on the mall. They like to immerse the player in the world, so buying stuff you didn't gain in the game is out of question.
That's my prediction mate, since I played all of Bioware games, I have a certain incline about what kind of game they gonna make

Maybe just maybe, BiOWARE wants to prove that they can do more than just Story Driven games? You don't know. Maybe, they want to show the world they can make the best damn MMORPG on the market, by givings us the very best of a Story Driven game combined with all best elements of a Sandbox game.
Maybe, just maybe they are tired of seeing all the same crap recycled gabage out there today.

Check : You can bet on it it will be at least for 1 Console, they are a commercial developer, plus being aquired recently by EA, they will make sure the game will be available to the wider audiance possible. They have said for now they are going to "side-step consoles". I hope they "side-step" them forever, but you're probably right.
2) the combat system revolves around a form of FPS & TPS "twitch" mechanic.
Check: It will be a mix between FPS and the traditional MMO mechanic, let's say closer to AoC than any other game. Ugh... Disgusting, but probably true.
3) no open world where almost every area is instanced.

Altough I don't predict they gonna use invisible walls for their MMO, Bioware will make good use of instancing. hehe define "good use" Personally, I think there's no good use for instancing unless it's to prevent griefing, which would typically restrict it to high-end content only.
4) few customization options for character / skill look and template.
Check: Bioware focus more on the gameplay and story, rather than customization, although in a MMO you need to have lots of armor/clothing, so it won't be that bad. Their focus is almost entirely on story. They have typically allowed decent customization in their single-player games, which would seem to indicate they'd allow for more in an MMO.
5) shity, simplistic crafting system where crafters are meaningless and all loot is quested.
Check: They won't complicate the player game experience by adding a distraction to the questing/adventuring. This flat-out sucks, as there's nothing about crafting that "complicates" the player's game experience, but I can definitely see Bioware justifying no crafting using that line of thinking.
6) if micro-transactions are in anyway shape or form part of this game.
Fail : They won't do this, as said above, their RPG are story driven, they won't allow having advantages by buying items on the mall. They like to immerse the player in the world, so buying stuff you didn't gain in the game is out of question. Admittedly this wouldn't be so bad as long as it's restricted to cosmetics only, as previously mentioned.
That's my prediction mate, since I played all of Bioware games, I have a certain incline about what kind of game they gonna make
Having played most of Bioware's games myself, I fear you're right on every level to an extent.

1) LOL...the CEO of BiOWARE has already said they will be "Side-Stepping" the Console Market.
2) If what everyone is saying is true about them making a WOW CLONE, then why would they make another FPS game? What about BF3? That gem is slated to come out around the same time. Why make two FPS games? Also, doesn't "HELLGATE" and TABULA RASA already have FPS style mechanics? We all know how wildly successful those games are...right? Hell, even the NGE couldn't make "twitch" combat work. I'm thinking you don't know what you are talking about.
3) I think you are wrong...I think it will be much more like WAR. Players can go almost anywhere in the Zone they are in at the Moment. There will be some Instancing, but it won't be anywhere near like AOC. They will learn from the mistakes of others and we can all see that instancing is not a popular feature.
4) I for one think that this Project has been well planned and has very good funding and manpower. I think we will see that they will not have to choose one or the other. We can have both and I think you are arguing for the sake of it. There is no basis for your claim that they will have to focus on one rather than the other.
5) BE ADVISED...there will be more to this game than Questing and Raiding. BANK ON IT!
