As was said earlier, server capactiy increase, but aslo since the game has been out for 30+ days people are naturally settling in to normal play routines. Me, personally I play casual, but when it first came out was playing 8 hours or more a day on the weekends. Also, most are usually med/med or better during prime time hours. Game pop is doing fine.
And a 40% drop in average playtime/subscriptions in 30 days is fine?
I had problemswith mine internet connection, so i was cut down from world for 2 weaks. But i got mine new modem today, and here i am, logging into WAR again!! I missed that WAAAAAAGHH! And what i see.... servers from full/high dropped to med/low!!! Where everybody?! . Dont tell me all 1 monthers newer resubbed! . I dont whant this game to die like this, i love it! i whant to play it! Thought with region chat it became alot easyer, i made a 10 people group for PQ in less then 5 mins. Games is getting better, dont just walk from it like this .
Let me ask you this, are you in an active guild? Most of the complaints I see from folks are the ones treating it as if its a solo game. A good active guild does keep raids regularly, as well as PQs and scenarios together.
You can solo through this game I suppose, but you wont enjoy it quite as much.
(even though WoW trashed the concept of MMO and made it possible to play a single player mmorpg, WAR really shines when you are in a good guild)
How is making an MMORPG playable solo trashing the concept? Massive AND/OR multiplayer != group / raid / guild.
raising server caps when the the populations are dropping is just another bad idea from WAR. Who was the brains behind that idea? Hey people are not renewing and quitting, lets raise server caps lol.
Hmmm, well i cant be certain, but i believe you will find everyone has gone back to WoW after the latest patch release, and to rework their char for the WotLK Xpansion. If you dont believe me, ask anyone else who is playing. The server populations nearly all hopped up a level day after patch release, and the game is 10 time better than it was pre 3.02. Lol if i understand right they have had to do alot of server buffing to make it so they can handle the load.
Mythic did not raise server population caps and not say anything about it. Honestly it serves Mythic no purpose to do that in any way.
Everything points to populations being down. From xfire, sales charts, server selection screen, etc. I've been watching the server populations for a few weeks trying to find a new sever to play on. I can tell you that populations did not drop across the board in any fashion that would explain server population caps being raised. So far it has been a slow and steady decrease. Raising server caps would be a very dramatic and noticeable effect in a very short time frame. Something like that would most likely happen after Tuesday maintenance since it is something that couldn't really be done live.

Population caps have been raised, deal with it. Mark Jacob said it on vnboards and there Was a sudden drop in the high/high servers last thursday before the free month ended, I'm guessing it happened then. There's no reason to mention it on the frontpage, they've already said they would keep increasing them until the population got more even. People have been complaining that the server capacity was too low since launch now, you should be happy. The fact that there are way too many servers is another thing though
Also, increasing server caps can't be done live but it can be done in a 15 minute reset if everything goes right and they already have the infrastructure ready for it
Raising server population caps will not help even out the populations, unless they merge servers. The only thing that a higher cap will do is allow more people onto the few servers that were close to population caps. The problem right now is there are more servers than the population of the game needs. A raised cap does nothing to help the majority of servers that were low-med at primetime does it?
Also, I have been watching the servers longer than last Thursday and there was steady decline in the servers long before Marks magical stealth population excuse comes into play. It wasn't like there were lots of heavy/full servers on Weds and then only a handful on Thurs/Fri.
Do you really believe they made some stealth change that makes the game look underpopulated, does not resolve the population issues and just happened to fall right on the same time as free month expirations? Everything speaks to the opposite of that being true.
They did say somewhere that the server cap was raised and the reasonig was a voluntary server move, not merge, if the player would like to do so. Mythic cloned some of the most populated servers when there was an hour que time causing too many servers IMO, and now with the free move you can go back to your used to be full server with all your goodies and experience still intact. But I think any game regardless if its the best thing ever or sucks to high hell is going to lose some retention after the first free month.

Raising server caps instead of having them at their max right at launch prevents everyone from jumping into the server and being level 40 without anyone in the first 3 zones. In that sense, it helps even things out a bit. I never said it helped with low servers, i said that was another problem altogether. One which the only solution is server merge, and they dont want to do that. Free transfer only works if people are willing to use them, and guilds won't want to unless they can keep their rank. I doubt its gonna do much to improve things
I've read from some people that there was a sharp decline on thursday (i think it was thursday), you might have missed it because they said that it happened exactly like that. One day their server was full/full with a queue, the next they were medium/high etc.
Stealth change? They've probably been planning to have the servers at a certain capacity so the world wouldnt feel empty but couldnt do it at launch because of what I said earlier in the first paragraph.
It looks like your angry at Warhammer for not being good enough and are letting those emotions get in the way of rationality
You are right, I want warhammer to be better than it is, but that has no bearing on the validity of my comments. Any snarkiness I have is in response to your tone, I appologize for that to be honest. However I do not fall into the "desperate for a new MMO" crowd that has far to much invested in the success of the game, but I do think this one might just turn around and make it big.
Anyhow, the contention that servers are fine and the server load screen is only showing lower populations, because of some secret change Mythic made at the very same moment first month subscribers would lose access to the game is optomistically dismissive. It is pure PR spin on Mythics behalf, especially if you consider that this change offers no solution to a problem on its own and only makes the game look worse. Why would Mythic do that on the very same day that any dip in cancelations would show other than to offer an excuse?
Like I have said already, I have been watching the server screen looking for a new home, because my current server is dying. The server loads have been decreasing for weeks now, not as a result of some Mythic change.
I fear that the momentum is already gone and it may not recover after that.
For example if you read the state of the game address it covers some great ideas and fixes. It says many things that I think need addressing, even though there is little in the way of details. On the flip side if you look at it from different angle it just shows how much is not working right now. Oct to "sometime" in December is a very long time in the MMO world and MMO players have been very unforgiving as of late. The entire letter reads as a plea for people to not leave.
Almost everything I am seeing says the game is taking a large population hit.

Oh I totally agree, I never said the game wasn't losing subscribers, on the contrary. They probably lost a good amount since launch, XFire has them at between 62-75% of their peak. But to say that they didn't raise population cap as well is very far fetched when you consider Mark Jacobs said it and he never actually lied (yet).
Will it recover? I think its way too early to tell, there are just too many factors to take into consideration. Will WotLK succeed? Will patch 1.1 live up to its promises? Will they try to hype it up more?
We have to remember that it launched under very bad conditions, their launch was crippled by Blizzard announcing their expansion the day before it launched. Plus the fact that they had to rush to launch before them, it seriously impaired their ability to go mainstream. We can only adopt a "wait and see" attitude for the next few months
As for attitude well, its kind of hard to interpret when we're reading and not talking face to face. Its one of the big flaws of the internet
I'm sure if we were face to face we would be pulling hair and scratching as is expected in any good girl fight.
I never meant to say that Mythic did not increase the server caps, just that it was not the reasoning that server populations are showing decline. Server population caps have most likely been raised a few times since early access or whatever it was called in the various 31 flavors they handed out.

People are leaving the game. I forced myself to sign in today. Last week my guild had over 30 people logged in between 6-9pm. Tonight there was 8. I hope Mythic does something fast(up rewards in PvE/RvR would be a start). Very un-Mythic like, but I can hope.
Well i havent been playing much lately because I started up Vanguard. I love the how open the game is, playing that made me realize that the PvE of war isn't that great. I posted not to long ago that wars PvE was good, but Ive noticed that the games ive played in the last year have been pretty crappy and hold your hand to much.
I want to have to remember where things are and not have area's marked on the map automaticly all the time. I want to adventure and look for stuff not just follow the arrow and tell me where to go. Vanguard sometimes marks it for you and when it does you have the option to unmark it if you want. I have a bad memory so I was looking for this NPC for like 10 minutes and couldn't remember where he was. It was actually fun looking for him.
Also there isn't much Roleplaying in War, and I miss that, I havent done any RP in forever cuz nobody really does it anymore hardly anymore.Really the only fun thing about WAR is the RvR when I log in that what I want to do, is find a massive battle or do a dungeon run. About crafting while the no recipie idea is cool its just not complex enough, the whole game just isn't complex enough for me I guess. It was fun at first but it just lost it after awhile. I wan't that old school feel to a game, a sense of adventure and Risk vs. Reward. War just isn't cutting it for me.
emmm, when i was playing last time, before mine modem fried, i was in giuld that allways had atleast 20++ active people online, and we were lvling together and messing around... Now i logged in, theres like 1-3 people online.
This is the case for everyone, because people are leaving the game in masses. There are many reasons people list.
For me, the main problems are class imbalance, dead open-world feeling, and the ridiculous levels of crowd control built into the PvP system. Knockbacks, knockdowns, roots, snares, stuns, silences, suck-ins - it's silly, and it's an arcade-ish mess.
I could tolerate such a shallow game if the PvP system was fun, but it wears thin quickly.
Also, Bright Wizards are the most ludicrously overpowered class I've ever seen in any MMO. The fact that this class made it to release in this state tells me very very bad things about this game. People brush this off, but several people in my guild have quit playing because of Bright Wizards alone.

Just my two cents.
Of course there's been a decline in population.. as in ALL mmo's after the first month. Some people will like the game and some won't.
Let's also remember they've increased the server caps too, so that could also be adding to the changes to the status of servers.

yeah the server caps was raised awhile ago because alot of teh sevrers was haveing long ques
had to laugh a bit when you included AOC in there and was that engrish?
