I suppose you are one of the l33t speaking masses I was refering to?

I've seen 'em come and I've seen 'em go, and I can tell you that nothing remains popular forever.

After it's all said and done and MMOs are no longer 'cool' the big name companies are going to go back to making single player games because that's where the money will be. The mature gamer will go back to being able to communicate with the development teams and make suggestions without having a forum full of whining and crying BS, and MMOs will evolve into more mature games.

There are so many games out there that it is more important for a game to deliver good entertainment for a while. We can always move on. MMO is not different from SP games in this aspect.  See above.  There are some single player games I still play over and over that have almost no replay value, simply because I like the environment.

It is much better to deliver a good structured experienced than an empty virtual world. People don't want another life, they want good entertianment in this one.  For people with zero imagination and creativity, sure.  But what's entertaining to you isn't entertaining to everyone.  Ask the people playing Second Life if they don't want a second life. An "empty virtual world" fills up quickly, and isn't so empty after a short time.

LOL .. you are so sad and need to get a life. Games are entertainment. With so many coming out, y do you want to play even SP games again and again?

Yeah sure, there are no-lifers who want to live in Second Life, but you don't see millions and millions of those people, do you?

Let me give you a hint .. people who want to live in a virtual world is in the minute minority and good luck finding one. Meanwhile, i will just enjoy whatever neat, nice entertainment comes along.

You lose.  Thanks for playing and attacking me instead of coming up with anything even remotely resembling an argument.

MMOs aren't cool, there's just this one game that's fun, and bunch of "mature" ones.

Awesome! I'd be perfectly happy with that!

But the OP and many others won't.  Unfortunately some folks had hope that Bioware might be more along the lines that Lobo was looking for, but I figured all along they were going to create more of a "game" than a virtual world.

They should just repaint EQ1's original engine to Star Wars.

Bioware makes games where you can build your own modules if you choose and share them with others right? I wonder if this will ever come into play in some way, some sort of user generated content would be a step up from most MMOs. Looking at Bioware's profile and the games they have made I'm thinking like others here that the gun is being jumped. Fact is we only have a few clues about what they are planning to do..

I'm curious to see the dialogue options and if picking one answer over another gives you a different experience.. Truth is there is so much cool things they could bring from their single player experience to an online world that would actually help player immersion, but they will have to know how to implement in an online setting. It's quite a lofty proposition, and though the way they describe the henchies is cool and gives me Neverwinter flashbacks, not sure how well this will really fly. :/

Instancing sucks, I haven't read how much of it there will be so I can't comment there, if it's similar to AoC eeww. Again will the henchies kill the need for a team?  Not likely it will probably kill the need for a traditional 6 man team, giving the players an option, however content is usually more fun with a team of real people..

That's the thing with this game, Bioware is saying from the get go it's going to be a game that people can solo or group and play as they want. It sucks that it's disapointing to some who were hoping for something close to Galaxies except newer and possibly better, but that's not what this is. I don't believe this game will kill the genre in fact it's probably the first game to pick a side, what I mean by that is I foresee that MMOs will diverge, some will be online seamless worlds that any old school rper would totally love, and some will fall into the linear follow the story line spoon feeding category. Or maybe *gasp* it will actually meet every type of player in the middle, however that's probably a dream that will never happen. But it is nice to dream.

I find that people tend to hold on to their memories of what a great MMO was and forget all the painful and annoying glitches and frustrations those games had. Not saying what we have currently is better, but it has done away with most of those pesky things, now we just need to figure out how to get the magic back into the game, and that's the tricky part and I don't think we'll actually know until we play something, and we're like: " This is it!!"

Single player game with a monthly fee? Where are you getting your information?

I'm only gonna comment to one particular aspect of this thread and thats about this being the deathblow to MMOs...  it isn't and won't be no matter what it turns out like. Current MMOs are just that, MMOs..  SW:TOR being focused heavily on story and your character is bringing the RPG back into the equation..  it's been missing for some time now and to be honest it's gonna be a refreshing change from all the crap on the market these days.

Will it be good game? Probably, but basically it will be KOTOR3 with online element. Might just aswell be KOTOR3 singleplayer minus online subscription.

I guess the deconstruction of Massively multiplayer virtual world hope continues towards "story driven" (read singleplayer like) cooperative gaming

WoW can be thanked for this. It's massive success attracted big buisness like flies to dung.

I doubt any MMO will do what SWG did back in it's prime implimenting housing in it's open world (not instanced zones), or have so many NON combat things to do.

SWG had a great vision of a persistant world but was shot down by horrid management.

Earthrise sounds appealing as does Fallen Earth and of course The Old Republic.

Personally I have stopped hoping for "the one" mmo.

As for current true sandbox games, I enjoy EVE, and the scraps of SWGs leftover good parts.

I must say, SWG is still managed terrible. This card game they just released is one of the worst moves for a mmo I have seen since NGE.

I have similar fears. Soloing having, companions instead of real human groups, heavy story driven theme park... sounds like a single player game with a chat channel. They never listen...

Only thing that slightly worries me is for a MMORPG that is,

Why would they listen? Lots of people like soloing + heavy story driven game. And lots of people like chat channel.

If you look at WOW, many are happy paying $15 a month doing just that (minus the story part and replace it with hack-n-slash).

It is the future of gaming. If you don't like it, well, too bad .. don't play this one game. I am sure there are enough others who want to play.

    Link?

I've only heard Bioware say there will be PvP, with almost no confirmed details.

I'm still of the opinion that PvP will be an after thought in this game, which saddens me.  PvP should be the CORNERSTONE of any Star Wars mmo imo.  The entire universe is based on conflict, and if you're not going to allow players to take part in that conflict, on opposing sides, then why even use the IP?

QFT! Even in the Demo at E3 they had multiple players in a mission. I think we are done with the go get ten eggs concept hopefully.
