Star Wars is a shit franchise.

I have a bad feeling about this.

How come whenever I watch anything Star Wars I hear that line and I'm just thinking are they just copy and pasting pre generated lines over and over again like they do with content for SWG? I really don't understand why anything named Lucas seems to want to destroy Star Wars.

The only good movies were Episode 4 and 5, the rest were just complete crap like they want to make it for dumb kids or something. I was a kid when I watched Star Wars for the first time and I loved 4 and 5 but still thought 6 was shit because I didn't like Ewoks and thought the ending was sooo stupid and unrealistic. So really who are they aiming the franchise at? It must be retards.

Everything thats come out since then has had huge plot holes and made no sense what so ever. The new movies were just a mess and these clone wars cartoons are even worse and I just don't get why they seem to want to keep creating complete crap. Every single review for the new movies and even most of the games has been crap and I just don't get why they don't say "we're doing something wrong here, we better change"... instead they continue down the path of shitness.

What I loved about the original Star Wars movies was that they wern't totally unrealistic and they were gritty. Now however everything is super clean and like some fairy tale for kids with stupid script writing and bad storylines.

I'm watching one of them new clone wars episodes and it's like two clones are walkign into a base that has been taken over by droids. The droids have commando gear on because somehow it perfectly fits them........ not only that but the droid says roger roger which they always seem to say now. However noooooooooooooooooooooo the apparently smart commander Cody still hasn't taken the hint and landed on the base. Theres no guards out to meet them and a droid in clone gear walks out like a droid and is talking like a droid telling them they can't come in and they stil don't take the hint. So finally a flare goes off and Cody shoots the droid in the clone gear dead and the other clone goes what are you doing. Suddenly Cody thinks he's sooo smart because he worked it out finally :S

Fucking stupid man it makes me want to just shoot myself to how bad this is. Fucking not even retarded kids would watch this shit.

Lucas keeps telling us they're listening to the fans but they just don't give a shit.

  • Unfortunately the prequel movies began with the by far worst Star Wars movie of all time, moved on to a slightly less bad one and ended with a halfway decent one.

Had EP3 been the START of the new movie series and not the end it'd have been better.

A big problem is that the real story of all three prequels is told in the last 2/3rds of Ep 3.

Just about everything before that is filler.

CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

Listen to Lucas in the commentary track of Ep 1.

He basically admits that "copying and pasting" is the essence of Star Wars.  He spins this as being akin to a symphony, where musical motifs are repeated with slight alteratons over and over again.

Someone says "I've got a bad feeling about this" in every SW film.  There's always a NOOOOOOOOOO!

I was expecting this thread to immediately be a flamefest due to the thread title.

But after reading your post, I have to agree with you quite a bit.

ANH and ESB still stand out as damn good movies.

RotJ had some very good qualities but were heavily offset by the ridiculous hijinks.  The Speederbike chases and Endor space battle were GREAT!  But stupid things like Han's way of clumsily beating Boba Fett, the blasted Ewoks, and the Endor ground battle dragged the movie down to among the worst of Star Wars productions.

If you really want to point a finger as to **when** the Star Wars franchise started going downhill (and in hindsight), it didn't start with TPM / Ep.I.  It started with RotJ.

The Star Wars franchise didn't need to be kiddified or dumbed down.  I vividly recall us buying up those toys and collectibles even before RotJ came out.  As a kid, I thoroughly enjoyed ANH and ESB, and I still love those movies today.  As a kid, I was irritated by the awful qualities of RotJ.  The sheer abundance of hijinks and comedy of RotJ were just so... so out of place with what was done in ANH and ESB.  ANH and ESB had humorous moments with ample one-liners.  But humor wasn't central and didn't stand out so badly as it did in RotJ and later SW productions.

It didn't help that there was a series brought out in the 80s centered on Endor and the stupid Ewoks.  Even back then I was thinking, "Why the hell are we watching Ewoks?  I want to see the Rebels fight the Empire!  Where are the X-Wings and Star Destroyers?"

When TPM "finally" came out, it didn't help matters at all.  I swear I was watching a Disney kid's movie than a Star Wars movie.  Maybe me and my friends were wrong for hoping something like the best of the Original Trilogy, only in another timeline.  Or maybe Disney kid movies and Star Wars productions are one and the same nowadays.

    A shame...

AotC?  3 things I liked from it... Jango Fett, Natalie Portman in that white outfit, and the introduction of the Clones.  Other than that?  Bleh...  At least Jar Jar didn't plague the movie like in TPM, but those lines between Anakin and Padme for their romance scenes?

    /puke

Really, they needed to take a que from the interaction between Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher in ESB.

The Clone Wars cartoon was ok from a few years ago.

The newer Clone Wars "Skyman" movie I avoided like the plague.  I had the gut feeling it was everything wrong with the Prequels wrapped up into 1 horrid movie.

I disagree, episode 1 is way better than episode 6.  In fact episode 1 is the third best behind episode 4 (the best) and 5 (the second best).

I rate the movies in order from best to worst as follows:

    4, 5, 1, 2, 6, 3

yes episode 3 is by far the worst starwars movie.

Vader being tricked into the dark side was NEVER the story. The story was that he choose the dark-side for power and greed, not to save his slut girlfriend!

Yeh and how Anakin got turned to the dark side was stupid too, how none of them Jedi could sense Palpatine as the Sith lord is weird and how all of a sudden Anakin was like For teh Jedi and then for teh Sith..... it was like huh did I miss something?

I don't get why Anakin and Obiwan fought on the Lava and all that too because all it woulda took is for one of them to use force push and the other one goes flying..... Anakin coulda just gone down the Lava river abit more and jumped off instead of trying to jump over Obiwan.

I dunno none of it makes any sense, the script was sooooo poor.

Nostalgia aside, Empire is the only great Star Wars movie.

For me, I love the original triology. Ewoks and all. It's really that simple.

Star Wars in general is a great sci-fi franchise, better than Star Trek (and I like Star Trek too), except George kind of ruined it with the last 3 movies and is doing the same with Indiana Jones.

    Empire pwned face.

Other than that, I prefer EU books, such as the Bane series, the Thrawn trilogy, etc.

It seems like all the GOOD Star Wars material was written by someone OTHER than Lucas

I remember back in 1999, folks kept asking me if I was stockpiling food. I always answered, "No, I'm stockpiling ammo and making a list of people who are stockpiling food"

I thought that the last 3 movies were ok ,but that  The Clone Wars is a total rape of the storyline.

I liked all the movies.  Even the cartoon.  I don't watch the movies with a critical eye, I just sit back and enjoy.

All 6 movies I enjoyed.  The original trilogy is my preferred viewing. My main complaint is ...not that Lucas is making money hand over fists......but that he is raping his own creative children to make this money....true...his property,,,he can do whatever he wants...but he has no loyalty to the fans that put him on his pedestal to begin with. Face it...he owns Episode 4....but that is his only creative seed(and not all that original...read New Gods from DC comics circa 1960's...or read any mythology).....the rest grew naturally in the uterus of the cash cow, that is Star Wars. And he's been milking that bovine bitch ever since....but the most annoying...is his justifications/explanations/bullsH!T...well..it was always "just for kids"..which is why he had to go make greedo shoot first...b/c a hero would never be underhanded like Han in the pre-digital age....or it was "always about Darth Vader"...because of course..all kids in 70's and 80's...longed to be the anti-hero...and virtually none imagined themselves as Luke...or Han...I'll buy this in the 90's-present...when a alot of movies and comics took a darker tone...leaving you rooting for the villain...or twisted hero...batman..silence of the lambs...etc....Or just dismissing his audience outright under the ..you can't please em regardless...argument...Does that mean you shouldn't even try?....Even with the new Raiders movie..he said something to the effect of " f@ck 'em ...i'm going to do whatever because they won't like it anyway"..a practice we are already aware of since Phantom menace.....Don't get me started on the new Clone Wars Series....I'll stop now.

Indeed! Remember that we are talking about the man who failed to understand why people dislike characters like JarJar and the Ewok's.

Another thing that comes to my mind. Wasn't it George L. himself that veto'd the return of spices in SWG because he didn't wan't his precious Star Wars affiliated with drug use? While Star Wars may have fans in all age categories, I still think the vast majority of the fans are those that saw the original movies back in the 70's and 80's. This is also something I think GL fails to understand and that is the fact that this large fan base is not 10 years of age anymore.

Spinning this further, I'm afraid that this also will be the reason the new TOR game will fail. What I mean is, who wants to join in on his false picture perfect, Sunday afternoon lame family entertainment crap? Just look at this new animated TV series noncense (although I must admit that it probably is aimed at a younger audience)! I want a pre-CU like brutal world where nothing cames cheap!

Eh, I don't think TOR will fail, actually...because it's not Lucas doing the writing...it's Bioware.

And don't forget...Drew Karpyshyn wrote the Bane series, and KOTOR 1, and still works for Bioware. It would seem logical enough that he's heavily involved in this project.

My ONLY real worry about SWTOR now is that there may not be enough sandbox elements to satisfy me after the story is over.

    Time will tell.

I think it'll be laid out like guild Wars which will be a shame because I hate that format. By the sounds of it too the game will just have tooo many people soloing instead of grouping which makes me think, why don't they just make KOTOR 3 instead? Well obivously because they want to pull in money like WOW.

True that it is Bioware that most likely is doing the bulk of the work right now, but don't forget that the Lucas "factor" is hanging over them like a dark cloud. I think it will be just a matter of time before they (LucasArts or even the man himself) won't be able to keep their fingers off the pie.

LucasArts may have had a few successfull game titles, but this one is different from normal games. It's a high stake, high profile game that has an enormous preassure on it. Nothing else but a stunning success will be accepted by LucasArts.

While $OE rightfully is to be blamed for the SWG disaster, don't forget that LucasArts is just as guilty for that failure! The only difference is that LucasArts can just take their hands of any potential failures and pretend to be on the customers side and watch the shit land on the developer. I'm just afraid that the story will be repeated with SWTOR, only difference is that BioWare will be on the receiving end! It is possible that SWTOR will be successfull, but not nearly as successfull as LucasArts want it to be and the story will be repeated... In the end it will be their own greed and incompetence that will be the doom of SWTOR as well.

Anyway, besides my issues with LucasArts it will be like you said, only time will tell us what the real outcome will be.

    haha.
I just watched Indy Jones 4 (is it upto #4 now?) It was ... um... embarassing...
    UFOs? Interdimensional beings?
    that is NOT indiana jones

Well, keep in mind the movie was based in 1957, the 50's were the UFO era, alien/space movies were coming out the ass during the 50's and was very popular, George probably thought it'd fit the year the movie was based in. Also they had tons of filming mistakes, Peruians don't listen to Mexican music but this made me think they filmed the movie in Mexico which is obviously cheaper and safer than Peru.

Also the fridge during the nuclear blast holds a bit of truth, I have a 1940's fridge (with the huge motor on top) in my garage for extra milk and such and they're LITlERLY bulletproof and could probably withstand a blast, but not a nuclear blast. LOL

Sure 1 is good, like Anakin was born out of... the force like the Christ. LOL and LAME. I'd rather them saying his mother was raped by a Sith. It would have been 1000% times better than this.

Edit, 4-5 top, 6 acceptable, rest lame.

Star Wars has always been intended for kids. The first one was so succesful basically as a fluke..it just happend at the right time and a ton of adults and kids alike loved it. But if it wasnt for the first big bang at the box office in ep IV then this series never wouldve really appealed to that many adults. Lucas's fault in ep I was trying to appeal to the new generation of young people, that set the tone for the entire prequel and it failed. He shouldve just catered to his existing fans rather than try to get the ADD generation to be as fantatic about star wars as those who grew up in the 70's and 80's. In the end it was all about extending the life of the Star Wars franchise into further generations. Those real fans arent going to live forever and keep paying the check.
