And just like someone said before, it is true that you have nothing else better to do once you reach lvl 50, the only other thing to do is start all over again with a new character or do a raid. Rift Raids are also hard to get into cause they plan them outside the game too.  I was only in one rift raid and that is because someone was advertising while I was in Rivendell so I went ahead.  It was okay, however all the fun was drained from it because you were expected to follow orders and if you made a mistake people acted like you killed their child. Seriously, people would yell or even curse you out for not following orders. It is not fun listening to someone apologize for a simple mistake while other people act like they are the biggest moron in history.  Then you had to spend 30 mins listening to a play by play from someone who has done it forty million times, every single time you do a raid. So basically a 2 hour raid is 4+ hours from preparations alone.  Then you can do the Enttenmoors(sp?) which is only fun for so long, sure you feel like your in a war but the server crashes when too many people are on then everyone wants to quit because it's no fun. Then you got the raid leaders in the moors who act like they are paying you to be there, sure there are some cool raid leaders that are easy going and still get the job done but then you come across some bossy a$$hole who the other nerds think is the $h!t so no one challenges him.  If you don't have vent set up you better forget about it cause no one will take you in a raid without vent.
Also people are only out for what they can get and the moment a better deal comes along they would drop you for that. Mind you I don't take it personally but I was in a fellowship that broke up while in a den full of spiders because the leader saw a lvl 50 helping someone out and wanted to hurry up and join them.  That was not pretty. And you better not join a fellowship unless everyone has the same quest cause if you don't most of your time will be doing other people's quests then they suddenly will have to leave before helping you out with yours. The houses aren't that great, they are just xtra storage bins, reaching lvl 50 and doing the book quests are the only fun thing to do and once that is over there is nothing else exciting but doing useless crap to waste time until another book is released. Which takes about one day to complete then you're back to being bored.  I know you guys are gonna talk about me too but oh well the OP was asked about experiences so I'm giving mine. I came to this site looking for release dates to other MMOs and decided to drop by to see if anything new was happening with the LOTR.  If you do play I hope you have fun and enjoy yourself, the game does have some good elements too.  And it kept my interest for a while, I never would have reached lvl 50 if it didn't.  I just wanted to say that I agreed with the other poster (sorry can't remember name) who said that once you become lvl 50 there is nothing else. Just log on to the game and ask how many people have lvl 50s, some people play for just a few months and have three lvl 50 characters that they use for various things so reaching lvl50 isn't much of an accomplishment.

I can sympathize with your harsh 1st rift experience.  My first time in the rift was actually my first raid.. in any MMO.  I let people know it was my first time but it was still difficult.  I think it's important to go through the other 6 man instances to get a feel for playing difficult content in a group.  Make it clear to others when it's your first time doing something and people will usually help you out.  For sure there are leaders who are harsh but they have to be to prevent wipes (especially in a PUG!).  The rift will eat you alive if you don't have a good leader or have too many inexperienced players.

Your best option if you are new to raids is to join a raiding kin.  You will get a lot of help and will be with people who know what they are doing.  Of course, there is more to do than the rift and the book quests for endgame.  I posted a review a while back with a lot of detail on endgame (link here:  http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/207408)

However, the Rift along with a lot of other endgame content may go the way of the dinosaur and be very infrequently played when Mines of Moria comes out in 2 weeks.  MoM will have a bunch of 6 man instances and 1 12-main raid for the end game.   Plus legendary weapons.  I expect there should be lots of stuff to do at 60, especially with the reliable quarterly updates from Turbine.

I liked LOTRO, I still have my account with my level 45 Captain and 18 Minstrel.  The MAIN issues I had with the game was the inability to find groups to do the Books.  As I am a completist, doing the books was important to me but it became impossible due to the lack of people.  I think the game is beautiful, the combat interesting (if not a little slow), the classes unique.  But in the end it was simply too group dependent for my liking.  If they allowed for solo versions of the Books I would have perhaps stayed or at least made LOTRO my second game sub.

    Current Games: WOW, EVE Online

IF you want to max out in 2 days and skip 3/4's of the content , then the game is not going to appeal to you.
This community and myself can not stress the part of take your time , explore, mingle with players and partake in random acts of silliness , it's a game ! not a way of life !

I agree with alot of this posting though I also understand ops opinion as I once posted on these boards about how I thought this game would be so much better with more players, having said that I resubbed and have had alot more fun this time around it might help that I have seen most of the books so I'm not missiing something new but I've had more fun this time around and the upcoming expansion looks fun.

A word of advice is to make sure you pick a server with a decent population as we have already established this game doesn't have the largest community but it is certainly very helpful my suggestion is to find you a nice kinship I've been in guilds in some mmos where you couldn't get help with questiing and such but this game certainly is not one of them.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

To say there is nothing to do at level 50 is a gross exageration -- just because you couldn't find the groups/kinship to do things or flat out didn't enjoy the content doesn't mean there is nothing to do.   Flat out inaccurate.  There is  a TON to do which I've illustrated plenty of times -- not enjoying existing content and lack of content are two totally different issues.

The main reason people have alts at 50 is due to two issues -- a) the system of locks (you finish boss a and get a lock in a zone so you can rezone in and not have to clear to boss b) creates an environment where if you kill a boss with one character you are locked out so in order to help out friends with the boss you killed you either wait until your locks fade or you level another toon.   Rift has 1 week locks so that is what forced me to get my 2nd level 50 -- I was completely content with plent to do with 1 level 50 for well over a year.

    b) it allows a kinship a bit more versatility since kins tend to be smaller in this game -- 5 or 6 folks on with 2 or 3 characters each can form a better balanced group than 5 or 6 folks on with one main.

There are several people whining about lack of level 50 content -- they are wrong.   They  just don't enjoy existing content -- again a totally seperate issue.

    There are as follows:

    3 raid zones -- 1 is pvp.

6 high end 6 man instances

3 open dungeon instances at level 50 -- reputation dungeons

    2 raids

14 bks of epic story line content

a prologue for story line content leading in to MoM

Crafting pieces to farm -- crafting skills to Grand master

traits/deeds to grind to improve your character

reputation to grind to improve your character

That is a LOT to do -- whether you enjoy doing it is personal preference -- stating there is nothing to do is a false statement.

I hear a lot of ppl talk about community, i've yet to come across this community, hardly anyone talks in chat and if you do in OOC, you get abuse,

i'm sorry but thats not great community at all.

I've played this since beta and i never get invites to group or to join a guild,

other than that i do enjoy playing the game.

I just wish the community was a bit more... there.

How long ago was this? They have added a new system not long ago were people get special barter items for helping others complete certain 'group-required' epic book quests, which makes it a LOT more easier to find groups for them.

I can't speak for the abuse but thank god they don't chat on in OOC.

More than likely it's like L2 in that the clan or in this case kinship is where you find your help, your community. Just find a good Kinship.

I know on gladden the server I play on there is a public channel that was made by people on the server just for finding groups. Unless you read the server forums or think to ask in general chat if there is one there is no way to know what it is.

Once I found this semi secret channel I can always find groups as everyone online and in the channel can read it no matter where they are. Before I found this channel I would agree with you 100% although as far as community goes I have been playing since beta and never ran into 1 asshat or loot whore which is amazing to me.

Not sure what server you play on but for yourself and anyone else reading this it helps alot if your server has a channel like this and you ask around to what its called. If you are on gladden its called GLFF.

    Playing- Guild Wars 2, SWTOR

I play on Eldar, and i'm not really bothered about the grouping/guild thing i just wanna be able to talk to ppl, one of the most important things in an MMO i think.(for me anyway).

Hi there guyss... Im in quite a crossroad here and dont know where to go.... At he time being im trying out CoV... I´ve played.. Lineage 2, Mu online, Wow, Knight Online, Eve online, RYL, Guild Wars.... What i look for in a game is PvE content and PvP... I would say that pvp is a major factor for me... So my real question is... How is PvP on this game?.. The world is PvP free as wow or L2? Or there are special places for PvP as GW?

Thx a lot for reading this lines and any insight would be great :D

PvP in LotrO is limited to 1 zone called Ettenmoors where Players and Monster player fight. If PvP is the most important thing for you then you probably will be dissapointed since its not open world or competetive. But you can try the free trial and at lvl 10 you can create a lvl 50 monster character and check it out.

    If WoW = The Beatles
    and WAR = Led Zeppelin
    Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

I would suggest that just because PvP isn't open world or competitive doesn't mean it's not *fun*.   I'd imagine the fun factor is the most important part.   Ettenmoors is a zone set up where there are 5 keeps -- each side battles for control of the keeps.  If you have 3 under your control you can go in to a zone called The Delving which is a dungeon -- if the other side gets a 3rd keep under control while you're in the delving you don't get kicked out but it is possible for the other side to go in to the dungeon then you can have some really neat small PvP encounters inside the dungeon with PvP spawns all around.   You can build both creeps (the monster player side) and freeps (the free people's side) by earning renown or infamy in the moors.  As you gain in renown or infamy you can earn ranks that allow you to either barter for better gear pieces (freepside) with gems you loot in The Delving or you can buy new and exciting skills with the destiny points you earn for creeps -- I haven't played a creep very high but I believe the stones from the delving barter for some pretty powerful potion pots for them as well.

It's not perfect pvp and there are definate complaints people have but I've always found the Moors to be very very fun and a dedicated community only does that in game.   You literally could progress your character in game strictly by doing PvP.    So even though it's not open world  or competitive (the issue of competiveness is up for debate since it depends on what you mean by that exactly -- but no there are no specific rewards for winning *skirmishes* like in other games.) the community in the moors is still quite dynamic and it's the most fun PvP I"ve experienced in any game.

I think the one thing to consider is if you prefer Open World PvP -- then this game wouldn't work for you, but if you are looking for fun PvP alongside your dynamic PvE experience I think you should give it a shot.
