I have Vanguard on it's way from the US. It isn't sold locally, which really is stupid. But last I heard subscriber numbers are increasing as a result of recent updates, as opposed to the opposite, which some other games are experiencing.

so...not really sure what your getting at here.

WAR and AOC were playing ball with the big boy on the block "WoW" and Im pretty sure they were completely ignoring Vanguard.

Uh what? WAR does not have 700K Subs.... More likely 350K. AoC is probably 300K. And I like both the games. Both of them sold quite a lot but dropped fast because they were released to early, hmmm sounds familiar, doesn't it?

All those 3 games could really be big if they had waited 6 more months before releasing them. Too bad, all 3 games are good.

But SOE will keep Vanguard alive even if it only would have 10K players, it is not really a big cost to them since they manage all their games together and they still get some cash in. If it would have more players we would have seen a lot more work on it however.

But there will not be a Vanguard killer, unless SOE do a lot of work the game will very slowly lose some players for the next 5 years until it drops so small that it is under 10K. Only Vanguard killer ever is SOE.

WAR is still in the 700k area, AoC is in the 200-150k area.

It was announced ages ago that AoC was in the 200k range.

As for WAR, it just released, no way its already caught up to AoC, which had one of the worst launches I can remember. WAR was at least a solid game.

  • bee52bee52 Member Posts: 158

Wow looks like AoC lost 250-300K subscriptions between 11/02/08 10:05:15 PM and 11/03/08 9:06:15 AM.

Proof? Because the posters on page 1 and 3 of this thread say so! That's all the proof you need!

Just wanted to be sure that this was a best guess and not based on something concrete that I might have missed.  Thanks!

The only people saying Vanguard would be snuffed out.. where the people playing Vanguard.  I was one of those people saying that Vanguard would take a huge hit with the release of AoC.  It did.  But a lot of those people came back to VG.  It IS a good game.. however it reminds me alot of Darkfall.  Well.. in the promises that VG made .. not on release dates, but on content.

Vanguard is a live.. but not alive and well.  IT's too bad.. a really good game..

    Currently playing Real Life..

I think if Vanguard did away with the monthly fee, It wouldn't gain any more players.

Heck, I thought Vanguard itself was a Vanguard killer..

But by joining the SOE lineup, it should have a long life, they tend to keep their games forever no matter if they are living or dead.

Dude, AoC dispite its problems and WAR destroyed Vanguard. Over a year ago SOE put out that VG had something like 50k active users...Both AoC and WAR are in the hundreds of thousands.
Sony has no "big boy" games, they wrecked them all. What they have left are a bunch of half realized and half finished, empty server games.

Without linking a source their article holds little merit. Just a couple weeks ago Mythic announces that they have 800k registered accounts, which include people that did any beta and didn't buy the game. All reports from in game claim a drastic drop in populations, and now there claiming to have 700k subscribers? I am highly skeptical.

Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
    Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
    Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
    Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.

that's because Vanguard kicks butt.  Reasons Vanguard has done poorly ... horrible release + swg flamer manginas can't get over the NGE, so therefore they flamed this game into oblivion.

Additionally, the character models don't look like japanese anime with half naked ultra thin dark elves.

Um ya you linked direct to the October statement where they said they had hit 750,000.

The 800,000 statement came after that...

The one you linked to was Oct 10th.

On Oct 30th when EA released their second quarter fiscals they listed:

"with over 800 thousand current players"

I'm sure you can google for EA financial releases and find it.

Regardless when they said 750,000 even my "high" population servers were dead (I played about 5 different servers) and when they said 800,000 they were still dead.

I won't argue whether the game was good or not.. I just never saw anything to relate to these numbers in game... you know like when AoC launched.. I never saw WAR like that.

I'm kinda wondering what this has to do with Vanguard not being dead tho.

Vanguard commited suicide.  it was its own killer.

Not sure if there is hope for ressurection or not... but the damage is done, I'd say.

I've seen three people comment in this thread about how VG, WAR and whatever "released too early". In large part I think this may be nonsense. All recent MMORPGs have been designed in a very similar vein - i.e. the WoW model. And could it just be that people are getting bored with these generic, class based, simplified, linear grindfests? Or that many people may continue to play WoW more because it's a popular fad rather than it being a great game? I don't know. But at least acknowledge the possibility.

As for the (announced) features of Darkfall being just like Vanguard already has, please. That's simply beyond ludicrous.

nah the games did release too early, and it boned them early (not so much WaR) subs dropped like flies.

wow is a social thing for alot of its players, like a big gay technicolor chatroom. that is why people keep playing it, you aint 1 of the cool kiddies if you dont play wow, plus fathers can play with sons since anybody can play it (even the illiterate) . the way i look at it is there are more people NOT playing wow than there are playing wow, since we cant trust the sub numbers anyways ,you got to figure alot of people did play wow but dont play wow anymore for all these other games to sell at all.

and that last part i couldnt possibly agree more with.

The irony being that VG is gaining players (however slowly, thanks to the trial) whereas WAR and AoC are apparently losing them (if you believe everything on these boards).

    Go VG!
