Darkfall: Ready for Release in December

SzarkSzark News ManagerMember Posts: 4,420

The folks at Darkfall have posted an update on the games status on their official forums, mentioning while showing at the Athens Digital Week that the game would finish testing in December and at that point the game would be ready for release.

The announcement during ADW was that the open beta phase is scheduled to end early in December. More importantly this means that the game will be ready to release at that point. Marketing consideration kept us from just announcing a release date. The game will be ready for release, and the launch may follow directly, or shortly after, depending on the marketing landscape at the time. Obviously the earlier the better for us, but there are a lot of things needing coordination for the launch, internal and external. So our side of things (meaning the development end) will be ready.

..maybe I missed something but didn't they only officially start closed beta testing like a month or two ago?? If they're using this short a period of test time I smell foul.

Sorry If I am about to come off as rude but how in the blue Skys of Arcadia is there something foul about this? Heres a simple breakdown of the possible outcomes of DarkFall as of right now.

    1. Open beta Begins
    • You download the client (if not your adventure ends here)

          2.    You Play the game (for free)

    • You like the game and buy it a month later and reach a state of nirvana similar to that of a drug induced comma.
    • You dislike the game and rant on the forums about how it did not live up to the giant steaming hype train that just rolled out of town.

This will be by far the most interesting of mmorpg releases that we have seen in some time.  There is a huge potential for success and an equally huge one for a total disaster.

I think Darkfall will dissapoint a lot of it's fans since a lot of them are expecting quite a lot.  Its going to be laggy, bug riddled and missing some features to be sure but at the core it's trying to be what a lot of fans want and those willing to look past it may have a good time.

After waiting for quite some time I'll probably be buying it regardless due to my curiosity if nothing else.

The issue is just earlier this year this game was noted as Vaporware...

Now, it will release for Christmas? And the fact people think this game will rock?

Can we not look at Age of Cona or WAR to see what Hype gets ya?

    This game smells like fail.

  • MikehaMikeha Member EpicPosts: 9,196

This game has been in development for almost 10 years so there is no excuse for it not being ready. I will try out the Beta to see if this game lives up to the hype but I am not expecting much. I am glad its comming out so the Darkfall fanboys can finally stop trolling the other forums talking about how great the game is going to be.

Has nothing to do with it. Age of Conan and WAR disappointed cause they were released too early. There is absolutely NOTHING pointing at Darkfall doing the same, rather the opposite.

And there will always be Vaporware-rumours about Darkfall. There has been rumours for as long as I've known about it, there are still vaporware-rumours as I write this and there will probably still be some after its released.

And Hype has nothing to do with how the game is. It's just ridiculous to say Age of Conan and WAR failed cause they were hyped. They were hyped cause they promised to deliver a lot that they later on didn't. That doesn't mean that every game that is hyped wont be good.

I am hopeful but at the same time wondering where all the necessities of a prepared release are? There is a lot that should occur before a release I have not seen occur or planned yet.

  • FarginFargin Member Posts: 13

They have been testing this game with paid betatesters for years. So they only have to do stress testing and give people a chance to test the game for free so they can say if they like it or not.

So everything shows that they are pretty much ready for a launch in December.

Nicely said. As many know, I am a huge skeptic of this game, and continue to be even with this announcment. I will be extremely surprised if they really release with such a short testing period, but if they do and the game is good I'll gladly eat my words.

Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
    Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
    Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
    Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.

Good news but I still have my doubts about how people will handle world pvp that never play UO Felucca. I can see the forums now....

Its funny how so many people harp on how long the game has been in development and how they only release the base info on the game ( all we need) and how they don't do things exactly like every other mmorpg company ( most of which have  put out a half finished product ).  This game was pushed out early, that game was pushed out early , if this game or that or that game or that game etc.  had more time it would have been finished etc etc etc . then at the same time they look at Df and say its been in development way to long totally forgetting everything they just said . They  complain about how this or that game was released to early or ruched out or un-finished etc , then at the same time turn around in another thread and bash some other game for taking too long . Just becouse they dont do things  the same as all these other mmorpg makers ( who havent put out a finished product in many years) they are doing it wrong.

Then you have the ones who say there isnt enough info on the game out ( totally wrong , we know everything we need to know)  sooo many games put out gobs and gobs of info on the game to the point that we know 75% of the game before we even install it . The only info we need to know about a game is what type of game it is , how it will play, how it will work , and thats it( Df has put out way more than that) . I actualy like to explore the game and find out things on my own without knowing half the games total details before i even play it.

The game will release , it will be laggy at first, it will have  bugg's etc , these thing are un avoidable , its going to be nothing much more than a large scale sandbox skill based hack and slash / FPS pvp mmorpg with a huge open world and heavy focus on empire building  . Its not going to be perfect shape at launch that would be rediculous to expect specialy in this type of situation.  Im sure even with its downfalls hundreds of thousands of player who have been waiting for this type of game will play it and enjoy it , if not for the simple fact there isnt nothing else like it on the market these days .

If darkfall ends up totally failing then all these rabid DF fans will move on to the next project , they will not go away or quiet down, just move on to something else , maybe Mortal Online is next for the hype/vaporware struggle , it will never end till something with all the features of Df  or more all rolled into one playable game gets put on the market.

I realy hope Datkfall delivers and releases in a good playable state as they say it will , otherwise my self and many many other will have nothing to play yet again for the next few years .

I'm happy to know beta is around the corner. I don't believe in words such as fanboy and trolls. To all is such. You either like it when it hits or you don't, everything inbetween and after is solemnly entertainment to the masses who decide to read your reply to a thread about a game ready for release in December.

I'm amazed that men like you can be so shallow, thick and slow. There is not a man among you who will care whether I come or go....not one...not one of you

Can you point me to any game over the last couple of years that met the hype?

    Tabula Rasa? = Fail

    Vanguard? = Fail

    LOTRO? = Fail

I can go on if you wish...

None of these games can even get just a paltry 1 million scrips.

Yet, here we go again. The fanboy regime has been high on the hog hyping Darkfall in any forum they can touch in overdrive...like it is the second coming.

There is no way it can live up to that type of scrutiny.

As to Vaporware rumors, as one person said...this game has been discussed close to 10 years? In one form or other (I would like to see that corroborated. I only know of at least 3+). How is that NOT like Vapor.

Yes, it is real now, but there is no way it can meet any expectations.

Sorry, but the chances of Darkfall releasing this year and slim and none.  Anyone who thinks differently is depending on blind faith from a firm that has consistently NEVER met an announced date. Supposedly,  they are still in a very limited closed beta, if a game actually exists, because at this point NO ONE has ever seen the actual game.

Sorry if I seem a bit skeptical, but when an outfit like Adventurine cries wolf as many times as they have without ever showing the game or following through on a announced date, it is almost mandatory to be leary of anything they say.

Let a known reviewer actually play the game and report on the state of the game.  Until then, this game will continue to be the king of Vaporware.

Are you serious? They were playing the game live during a game convention a few weeks ago. If you still believe that it's vaporware, then you're just a failing troll.

Anybody here play the game called Two Worlds? (for PC or Xbox 360?)

That is exactly what that video looked like...

    Quality equals....uh...questionable.

DFO releasing in December? We can only hope.  If not though, I'll still be playing EVE.

Saying Darkfall is still vaporware is... well it is ridiculous. There are lots of questionable things about Darkfall, I admit that, but it's really not vaporware.

But I always wonder, Will it be pay to play or free to play because to me, it doesn't need to be pay to play at all.

    Am I that curious?

    Agree.

We have seen almost 10 years of development.

Updates in all areas, graphic, content etc etc.

All this delay might have been on purpose to make it as polished as possible before release.

If you put a finished product on the market and with the amount of content/features Darkfall will offer, we will see something amazing.

But if there is alot of stuff being removed we will see fail.

I beleive its the first impression that will stay in the mind of the consumer.

Just make a solid good mmo, that works.

We have many working games out there already.

So players doesnt want to spend months in a buggy non working environment..

    We are spoiled.
