Why did everyone complain about the WOW Zombie Plague thing?

I havn't played WOW since Battlegrounds... for logn anyways and I'm just wondering why everyone was complaining baout this event. I mean it's a once in a life time event that seemed like it would have been lots of fun. In the old days when we had events like these you'd have guilds teaming up and trying to defeat the invasion or whatever and protecting people, even if it offered no reward, playing the game and doing the event was the fun and people liked to group up.

Everyone complainging about a fun Halloween event just seems weird IMO. It's like sposed to be abit of fun, the end game in WOW gets repetitive as it is and back when I was playing I woulda given anything for something else to do. Do people just complain about it because they can?

Either that, or some got tired of Blizzard allowing 'whiny little kids' to kill off NPC's stopping you from questing and joining battlegrounds...and just the general grief it produced. MMO's are full of jerks...giving them more power to grief is down right scarry.

I liked it too.  But it seems I was in the mionority...

On one hand- Stormwind (and other cities, I'm sure)  was shut down several times for about 15 minutes at a time:

    No Auction House- all dead

    No Bank- all dead

Few merchants except the out of the way ones- all dead

No Battleground masters - all dead

I didn't really mind, but some people were pissed off, it seems.

I actually think it was an interesting hint of a possible direction that MMOs should go...

...I think it's the first time players felt like they could have an effect on the world.  Of course, some took it to the extreme and tried to disrupt the normal flow as much as possible.  But the fact that they could do it was pretty awesome, actually.

Yeah, all important NPCs gone, most of the time.

No questgivers, no auctioneers, no battlemasters, no flightmasters, etc. And at least on my server (EU: Anachronos), most of the dungeons/instances were bugged during the event, meaning you couldn't even do that.

Everyone didn't complain.  But even if %.01 of WoW's subscribers did complain/quit, that's a lot of people.

Personally, I think it was the worst event imaginable - there was almost no way to fight the zombies without becoming one and griefing tools were spread to the newbie zones - but I didn't care because I knew it would be over in a week or two no matter what.  Unfortunately, too many people don't have perspective.

  • rejadrejad Member Posts: 346

Sure it was different.  But what it amounted to was a license to grief.  Also those who were getting the raw end of the deal were the new players as being lower in level meant they had much less ability to survive what was going on.  I don't think that giving entertainment to the bored alpha players at the expensive of the newer players is a good decision.  I'm not saying that they shouldn't try new things or that they should have never bothered with this, I'm just saying it wasn't all that great.  I wouldn't have had a problem with it if you didn't incure equipment damage from dying as a zombie.  There was more than one way to do this.

    Exactly.

I have not played WoW since first two months after release because it's an easy mode game and I want to be challenged, but I remember Horizons aka Istaria had a plague that was passed between NPC and PC thru personal contact until all infected persons both PC and NPC were cured. It was a lot of fun and added immersive realism to the gameworld. That is where Blizzard got the idea btw.

God forbid a MMO tries to do something on a massive scale that brings an entire server together in some way.

I quit WoW a long time ago, but I would have enjoyed this event very much.  A can't even believe carebears would complain about something like this.  You would think they would all be getting off on the lore and the excitement of the game world being changed dramatically.  Not like it was a permanent thing....

99% of people didn't complain.  1% of 3 million people is quite a few people.  Mostly they were just annoyed because they were trying to do something else and didn't want to be bothered.  Blizzard didn't think to allow these people to just turn off their porch light.  Such is life.

This is why right here, pappy hit it on the head,

Because I was standing at the bank in shat trying to sort out my consumables for a raid which I needed to get to, and got turned into a damn zombie, then the bank guy got turned into a zombie to, awww the guards killed him so I have to wait for the damn guy to respawn.

Said screw that went to Org... oh wait all the bank guys are dead there to... all zombies.

Later the next night I am trying to respec my shaman needed to go healer for a little while, so I am standing at the trainer in Org, hit relearn talents, was listening over vent to what they wanted specced. I made a mistake and needed to repspec again. OH I CAN'T CAUSE THE DAMN TRAINERS JUST GOT ZOMBIE ATTACKED!!!! AND DIED.... AGAIN!

The entire zombie crap was nothing but a huge waste of a lot of people's time.

It should have been optional to participate, and it shouldn't have taken place in major cities. Where players are trying to conduct actual business.

Listen I am all for some Halloween fun, and zombies are cool, was a good idea.

Just executed very poorly and cause many many people to sit around in major cities for hours, not able to do shit else, waiting for npc's to respawn that's all.

I kinda liked it too.  There were a couple times I was annoyed (stuck in Barrens with both ratchet and xroads flight masters dead), but overall I liked the idea that the world seem fluid.   Also my server was really good about it.  The first day a lot of people griefed, but after awhile it was mostly 'accidental' infections that popped up and players quickly got things under control.

One of the things they should have done was to add some type of penalty if you were infected too many times to keep people from just griefing non-stop.   I know on some servers, all it would take is one player to repeatedly kill a cockroach, run into the AH and explode... rez,  kill a cockroach, run into the bank and explode.. and just repeat that forever.   They should have found a way to prevent one person from doign so much damage over and over again.

Um, don't get mad / jealous at those of us who actually have guilds good enough to raid Sunwell and BT. You know Actually DOING something with our time inside WoW aside from throwing zombie snot wads at each other.

Your right it pisses people off when like in my case, you only have 2-3 hours you can play, and you really need to prep and get prepared for doing something.... but oh wait you can't because a bunch of smacktards are running around plaguing each other.

Seriously blizzard should have just installed a /eventflag on /eventflag off

Turn the flag on when you WANT to throw zombie madness at the world. Turn if off when you DON'T WANT to participate and have better things to do.

Instead they FORCED you into an event wether you wanted it or not. Which isn't to cool, your taking choice away from the players, always sure to backfire in your face.

The Scourge, an army of undead that plagued the world and has caused untold suffering and torment to the many races of the game, not least the Blood Elves.  So they spread terror, destruction. plague and famine, make dangerous places that were once safe.

And in the midst of this invasion, brave heroes such as yourself let out a cry:

"ERM... HELLO... YES... HELLO THERE...  EXCUSE ME!  WOULD YOU KINDLY STOP INVADING AND  KILLING EVERYONE PLEASE? I'M TRYING TO USE THE AUCTION HOUSE!"

You don't like this event because cities being brought to their knees and players being turned into plague-spreading zombies "annoys" you?   You need to get your head checked.

I can almost here Comic Book Guy saying "Worst. Undead. Invasion. Ever."

You people don't know what you want in a game.

Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...

hahahaha awww QQ so what your saying is that blizzard shouldn't continue their storyline into the next expansion....basically ur saying that maybe they shouldn't have made one at all. Now please dont say that u didnt say that...because guess what...the event was for the expansion...GASP!!! no shit huh? there will be more just like it in the future that will disrupt ur 20 person guild from "raiding" the now easy Kara and BT. Ya...why would anyone be jealous of u anyway...shit i raided BT and the rest of them in my sleep...so that makes u no better than me or anyone else here...

    Brace yourself for this gamerman...

    I agree wih you 100%!

skydragon...hate to break it to you, but no one feels jealous that you are in one of the very many guilds that can raid those instances.  Hate to break it to you but WoW PVE isnt exactly an accomplishment that you should be boasting about to win an interwebz arguement.  I use to be a raid leader so having a successful raid is definitely an accomplishment to you and your guild mates, but certainly isnt one you should be using to put yourself above others.

Fact is your whining and basically saying that while you did not enjoy the zombie event, you are actually a zombie to the raid scene.  Awsome event and all you can do is complain instead of embrace it.

    This.

    Especially the last line.

Why are you people even playing MMOs if not for events like this?

#1 your both prolly full of shit, post your character and guild so I can see you both downing sunwell before the 3.0 patch then we will talk. Yeah it's easy mode now but I highly doubt either of you did it before the nerf of 30% hp reduction to bosses. Very few and I mean very few guilds can do this. Easy mode my ass... 5% of WoW has downed KJ before the patch, you two don't seem like 5% to me since you loved the zombies so much. Example 3 guilds on the entire server I play on completed that run. That's right 3 out of about 1000. Not easy mode.

Cracks me up every time I see someone say "Oh I quite WoW cause it's to easy." Your full of shit and you know it.

Anyway I didn't say the event was horrible, I said the event shouldn't be a forced particapate. Many people have no interest in running around trying to zombify others, that is something a child does to get kicks.

Noone MAKES you go kill the HH for a mount, it's a choice. Noone makes you put out the fire or kill 50 players on GNERDS. You have a choice.

Not being able to do anything in a major city for a week but attempt to avoid lil kids in zombie mode is ridiculous and pointless.

Very few people actually give 2 shits about the scourge, or "Bringing cities to their knees". If I want shit like that I will read a book. I play the game to raid and kill players. Both of which are hard when you can't pvp cause battlemasters are dead, and you can't raid cause you can't buy supplies or get in your bank.

    Enough said.

Because the event actually required people to work together.  Overall, I had a great time and it was a nice break from leveling my lock.

It really didn't even require that ICO.

I spent most of the week wasting mana shooting retarded muppet babies in the face with fireballs.

The question is WHY!!!!! It was stupid and pointless. Did the retarded muppet babies drop anything? NO Did they give me honor? NO Did they do anything except waste my damn time? NO they didn't.

I rather didn't enjoy 1 shotting zombies all week long just to try and wade my way to a bank vault through mounds of skeletons and dead bodies. Was quite ridiculous.

But as another poster pointed out, It was alright because in the back of my mind I just kept thinking "It's ok this stupidity will be over in a week."

You were inconvenienced for what a week and your this upset?  For once the game had something groups of players could work towards on a faction scale.  I don't know what server you played on, but that's exactly what we did on Azgalor and most of the people I played with had a great time.

Having an event once in a blue moon that encompasses what an MMO should be is a good thing.

Reality Check: (orange text is quoted from poster before me)

Did the retarded muppet babies drop anything? NO

Do lvl 70 drops mean anything one week before Wotlk ? No

NO Did they give me honor? NO

Does honor give you anything of value right now ? No

Did they do anything except waste my damn time? NO they didn't.

Does WoW offer anythink besides a chance to waste your damn time in a hopefully fun way? NO.

Its a frickin game -if you cant enjoy the content forget about it, anything you archieve here wont

last long and wont benefit you in any other way either !

dumping a whole heap of zombies and bugs in a city and having them randomly attack people of any level doesnt = a event imho , it equals a stupid pain in the behind.  I logged on to IF and took a step and got turned by a zombie, tried to work out wtf was going on and got one shotted by a guard when I tired to find someone to help with the stupid disease...nice work WoW.

Concidering that they do an okay job of other events, halloween etc been fun with the candy and wands this was just pig slops in comparison.
