It seems a lot of people who might like to try this game are put off by the fact that it would be very difficult or near impossible to catch up to existing players in EVE. I'm wondering if the devs have ever considered opening up a fresh start server where everyone would start off on equal ground, especially now that so many fixes and updates have been introduced since launch.
As far as I know, Eve has only 1 server cose they want the game to be that way. Only one server, only one "Universe". So you will never have this second server.
In my honest opinion, try the game, if you like it, just play, dont bother about a fresh start or cacht up other players, this 2 ideas will only make you have less fun or not even try a game you may like.
Even tho I am not playing EvE online atm, I still want to tell you that making a fresh server is a very bad idea. It goes against the whole concept of a single sharded server.
I also endured the hardships of a new player starting a few years after release, and even tho I have quit EvE atm, I still accomplished some things and can see that learning skills is not all there is, if you learn about EvE and the world and all the specs and ins and outs, then you also have an advantage.
One of the great things about EvE is that there is only 1 server for the whole World ( except China, which sucks already ). So if you play EvE you play with everyone else on the same server.
This is a big part of what makes EvE to what it is, mess with that and you mess with the core of EvE.
So no, it is not a good idea, and I suggest you to really try out EvE Online before comming back here and spouting these not well thought out ideas.

Personally, I did not read the 4+pages from my last post! This game need's to start again(REVAMP) or a new server. Everything has been changed from graphics to skill training! Thus game is going to introduce avatar's/toon's, I think we need to wake up the vet's or let them die like SWG!
Umm, it is really hard for me to not call you a n00b now.
It is because SOE messed with SWG that SWG died.
If CCP will start messing with EvE by adding more servers, they will end up the same way as SOE with SWG.
And newsflash, EvE Online is a VERY healthy game, probably the healthiest mmorpg now and ever. ( In terms of population growth and retainment ). This is a game that will survive WoW ( if WoW ever dies ).
So please get your facts straight.

CCP will do what ever is needed to keep EvE healthy and subscriptions coming in as with any busniess they will have to adapt to some change if starting a new server looks like could work with there vision of the future you will see a new server.

I guess what im trying to say these folks seem to get it right when they add something and thats telling me that there paying attention to there players and i think there big enough now that they could do a pve server in some way and incorperate it with there current pvp. then see where the newer folks go and just keep them in mind as best they can when doing new content.

Elsabolts i bet that ccp will add new servers when there will be a true market for that server and i guess ccp marketing department is doing a good job u can see that eve subs grow day by day ccp run a business and thei are not blind to miss a opportunity like that if you think ccp dont see that market use a web like petitions online get 100k ppl who want to play in a new server and i bet ccp will make a new server until then your opinion don't count
I think we have seen the answer to a new server, wormholes. This will allow the current universe to expand indefinitely. Once wormholes are introduced, I believe the current space will 'drain' and populations shift.
I played EvE for 4 years and yes...i agree that it's mainly Gankers that play it now.
If you have less than 20mil SP your a noob and are an open target.
The day's of jumping though gates without worrying your gonna be bubbled and ganked by those saying there just protecting there space is gone...!!!
The idea of a fresh start server is a good one....and one that could breathe fresh in o this stale game..
Basicly put...
1) start a character
2) Allow him to get up to10mil SP in ship, hauling and weapons.
3) Allow him to make enough ISK to buy a decent ship that he is caperble of defending himself (you all know this is not possible...but allow them to hope)
4) Once his Character has done all of the above he is thrown though a Wormhole in to the main server.
Now...Please tell me HOW this is a bad idea...???
Players moan about being ganked by someone with 40mil SP and been playing the game for 4 years...allow them to learn the ropes and give them a decent chance of defending them selfs for these attacks.
Those who think this is a bad idea are those who just want to rule with an Iron fist...Those who think this game is for hardcore players only and a game that newbies shouldn't be allowed to play.
These are players who don't want the game universe to expand because it means there need to cover more space to own it and defending it would be hard.
Poor them...!!!
We all know they don't stand a snowballs chance in hell...but it allows them hope...!!!

And what happens when those players emerge on the other side of the wormhole in the 'real' universe and get ganked cause they don't know the difference between high-sec and low-sec? The same thing will happen as happens now. They'll whine about it.
Not only that but you don't need 20 million SP to not be a noob anymore, or even 10 million. Anyone who's played the game for a few months is no longer a noob, unless they spend that first few months just mindlessly grinding missions and mining like a drone without actually using the time to learn the game. Then it wouldn't matter if they had 5 million SP or 500 million SP, they'll be a noob forever.
I am sorry, but all of you who want a new server or think a new character can't do any just don't get it !
EVE is not like any other MMO. You are trying to make EVE fit in the mold of all the other MMO's you have played. Its like telling an apple to taste like an orange.
Anyone who thinks they can't have fun and do things in EVE without a ton of SP is wrong.
Sure you can not play for a few months and be super uber. If you want that then don't even try EVE.
However you can have a lot of fun in a frigate. Frigates are hard to hit. My character has about 6 million SP. But they are mainly in mining and industry. I have a few in frigates and small turrets, and shields. Probably no more SP in combat that most new people who are less than a month old.
I go into low sec and raise heck . Its fun to attack a much larger ship and see them warp away, I even manage to destroy some.
Yes I lose some also but a new frigate costs very little. Insurance payouts help also.
So DON'T tell me a new character can't do anything in EVE.
I sometimes think that some people dont want to play EVE because they cant be king of PVP in a month.
In EVE there is always some one who is better than you and I like it that way.
Also I hear a lot of people say that if you mine you will be ganked or can flipped. Well I dont use cans so that takes care of that and I have never been ganked mining. I watch local or scan to see who is around.
I have been mining in lo sec a lot and never lost a ship. I came close a few times but if you are careful you can do it.
I am not the brightest bulb on the tree. It does not take an Einstein to play EVE.
Don't bother, the only reason people want a server reset isbecause they can't stand not being uber in their T6 gear beating people down, they don't understand that this is different in EVE and never will. For all the "but it would giver CCP more subscriptions", that's ofcourse total BS since they don't care about subscriptions, just about themselves.

"Not being able to catch up"
This statement is incorrect and misleading.
Ofc you can catch up, read about the skill system in EVE and you will see what i mean.

Still wouldn't go back and play it either way. New server doesn't mean it become any more newb friendly as a game.
Plus I get space sick. LOL
Do not be to sure of that. I think they could do both and increase there subscriptions alot.
