In accordance with the subscription terms and conditions, the option of automatic subscription renewal has now been activated for the following payment methods:
better safe than sorry guys it looks like they need the cash.
If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"
Comments
nope not here, looks like just you
you do know that unless you actually hit cancel you will get charged again right?
This isn't conspiracy time. When you signed up your account and put in a credit card, you had to choose a payment method. ALL the payment methods came with auto-renewal. There was no option NOT to auto-renew. It even said this in the directions.
You have to go to the tool and cancel your subscription if you don't want to pay for another month. Cancelling is easy, it's about 2 button clicks (I've done it). It lets you play until the end of your paid for month. No auto-renew.
Calm down, relax, and stop creating drama. Thanks.
Nope I went to cancel the sub and got a message saying as I didnt have the automatic renewal it would automaticaly stop when the sub ran out,so I left it like that, then I just got this e-mail that they would automatically activate that option.
No need to go on the defensive mate it is just a warning for players and doesnt hurt anyone to check.

lol yea, tomorrow they will come and take your house. Next time read, what payment model you are subscribing to.
I don't think there is any way to 'pay' for just one month. I think as soon as you enter your credit card information you are automatically set to be renewed every month. It is like that for every game. You basically can't just 'buy' a month. You have to manually 'quit'' your account.. the default is automatic renewal.
If you are going to cancel a game, it is always best to delete your credit card information before quitting the game.
buy a game card next time . . .
I was just about to come here and give a heads up on this. I find it suspicious Mythic wait until the subscriptions for the next month are not that far off to do this.
That is why I have posted this, although as usual some posters would rather troll than just see this for what it is "a warning"
When I went to cancel my account I was told I didnt have to as I did not have the auto renew enabled, now lets just say I went away for a long weekend as it is friday and came back monday to see they had automatically done it for me and I had paid for another month that I didnt want?
Like I said this is a warning and doesnt cost player's anything to check there account,as for the smart guys if it doesnt concern you then dont bother to post.

Same here. I went to cancel my account a few days ago and, as I remember unchecking the option for an automatic renewal, I wasn't surprised when it said that I had no current subscriptions.
Yet I get the same mail as you today:
"Greetings xxxxxx,
In accordance with the subscription terms and conditions, the option of automatic subscription renewal has now been activated for the following payment methods:
Should you at anytime wish to cancel this facility, you can disable it by visiting the My Profile/Subscription section of the official website.
The WAR Team"
I came here to post the same warning. I don't know whether it's Mythic or GOA's doing, but it's a rather pathetic attempt at keeping subscriptions.

I got the same email & had also quite deliberately not ticked auto renewal as I had paid for one of the longer term subscription packages anyway & was going to see how I felt when it expired in the new year.
I don't think it is that much of an issue, but I am disappointed that they have overriden my original choice & the only way I change it back now is to attempt to suspend my subscription. Also the auto renewal is for the same length package which I would not necessarily want to do.
If I do decide not to renew after Xmas though, the chances of me forgetting about it & accidentally subscribing again are pretty much zero, so I won't be losing any sleep over it.
If you can't "Have your cake & eat it too", then how can "The proof of the pudding be in the eating"?

Well I, for one, thank Daylight01 for posting this warning as I would have been stung too, along with my friends who dont take any notice of the emails they send, BECAUSE WE HAVE CANCELLED!!!
What a sad, immoral way of trying to scrape a few more pennies before the game completely dies!
Pffft, I am REALLY p1ssed!
Check your subscription status mate.
You are going to be surprised
If you hit the cancel button you are fine. This is what your account would look like if you did. Except replace the 31 days with whatever you have left.
Jeez, drama queen.
Is there any difference between cancelling and disabling automatic renewal? Or are people just making a big deal out of nothing? Why not just cancel if you want to cancel?
Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence.
Woe to thee, the pierce-ed.
Lol, I always prefer game cards too, problem is that they are hard to get in some places. Could just be that I'm paranoid off course but better safe then sorry.
Ok will try this 1 more time, when I went to cancel it said I didnt have too as I did not have the auto renewal so my account would end when the billing month was over, now they have automatically engaged this so if I didnt read my e-mail or was out of town then I would have paid for another month when I thought(according to there message)I wouldnt have to pay again.
I mean all these negative posts about my warning is the sort of thing that gets me down about the mmo community,if my warning or that of the other poster helps just 1 player then it was worth it!
If it doesnt bother you as you still play or indeed never got the email or your account auto renewed then why bother posting?
This isnt an attack on Mythic or GOA just a warning to mmo player's.

I guess only Europeans are getting that message. Is anyone else besides people that have their subscription through GOA getting the email?

Are you in the EU? There isn't a cancel button in the EU....
You have two options, Automatic renewal or manual renewal. Everyone who wanted to cancel in the EU had to pick manual renewal and then not click "subscribe". What GOA did yesterday was move people from "manual renewal" to "Automatic renewal". So nobody is now counted as cancelled, if they know your credit card details, get it now?
Going to be fun in a week or so when people start seeing the charges on their bills.

I didn't know the situation of EU. I was talking about the OP. So, my post in invalid for EU, but not for NA. The OP doesn't have any specification on EU or NA.
Yeah this only affects EU players, I didn't write the OP. Basically when GOA made the change yesterday, everyone who let them know their credit card details got signed up for a permanent subscription to WAR even if they had hit the "suspend subscription" button once or even several times.
This signed up maybe a couple of hundred thousand European players who already think they have cancelled and might not check their emails until after the next billing cycle in a few days. Even if they do check their emails it's not clear from the email they sent exactly what they did. I get emails all the time about games I don't play anymore, I normally don't even bother to read them.
Great way to make money though
Thanks to the OP for reminding me. I saw the email about auto-renewal but didn't bother reading it. The subject is very misleading. I read it as they are now offering the service and nothing more. Not "we are now offering this service and because our game is so great we've turned it on automatically for you."
I've terminated my sub and the auto-renewal. It's just not the game for me.
It fairly simple, don't leave your credit card details stored on anything to which are not an active customer.
I don't even leave my card details stored on Amazon. Every time I buy something from, their site automatically saves my card details allegedly for my own convenience & eevry time I manually go back to my account & delete them afterward.
There is always a way of doing this, it just sometimes takes a few minutes to figure out how.

That's normally a good idea however, you can't remove your credit card details from the European website. There's no way of even changing your credit card details.
