Wow you are a very angry person.

I dont know enough about aion to really pass judgement.  But at first glance and from beta reports it looks like just another round of slightly evolved WoW in the form of an asian grinder with pretty ADD graphics.  Will probably do well for itself.

Im obviously a huge fan of DF.  Last MMO i have any faith in so if it falls through im done.  Id rather put my hope in a game that offers something amazing than slowly waste my life away in the WARs etc of the genre.

Whether if this topic is necessary is not for you to say I'm afraid. I wanted to see which one is hooking people's attention more and I feel that this thread has well served that purpose. Also don't call a thread unnecessary beacuse people flame in it... next time I'll come flame your thread and call it useless afterwards...

actually this thread is a bit unnecessary. if you would have taken the time to read the boards i think you would have found the information you were seeking. lesson of the day, dont be lazy.

I doubt I'll play either one. One doesn't even exist and the other one is just polished FF/anime/Lineage-poop with wings.

Perhaps you should have taken your own advice and searched that up before you bothered to post here. I did do the search... on three different forums in fact. I couldn't find a thread that directly compares these two games and is up to date, cause people's opinions may have been swayed by the recent beta updates for both games.

Or maybe I didn't want to go through a hundred threads and look at every post looking for little keywords like DFO, AO? Maybe I just wanted one thread that gave me the answer I wanted?

Edit: I did a quick look through of the first ten pages on this board after I posted the message, and couldn't find a thread that seems to compare the two games. If you could find one for me, that'd be appreciated.

Didn't the devs of DF put out that the game would be launching in 2008? 43 days left.

Hows that going? If I remember correctly they said beta would have started by now...any word on that yet?

I am simply amazed that anyone still follows DF...this game was suppose to have launched in like 2003 or 2004...They just need to remove that game from the list like Heroes Journey and the other Vap games.

Darkfall all the way! I don't think I could face another level based theme park MMO aiming to try poach subs from Blizzard by reworking Blizzards formula to MMO's design. It's stale! The only difference Aion has going for it is the angel wing flight system, flight PVP and top notch animations. Take that away and it's the same old stuff we've come to expect in level based MMO's post WOW.

Goddamnit, why did you half to test my loyalty, i hate you... I am excited for both games. One for its lack of limits. And the other for its flying combat and pvpve + i dont mind the sound of leveling up. But also not ever having to level up sounds very very enticing too. I have researched both games extensivly, And while i am practically tied in hype, I beleive the recent [Aion open beta ingame footage video] had me creaming myself thousands of time more than usual. So i am a sliver into Aion territory, so for now it has my vote. But there is no telling what the future holds.

I don't see anything in Aion that would make me want to play it... I guess fighting airborne could prove to be very fun, but does Aion have FPS combat? I think not, with autotargeting it becomes just another graphical feature. Aion graphics by the way... just too damn pretty, a fantasy world needs some ugliness IMO, and DF has that plenty lol.

Not a fan of the art style of Aion so unless it gets really good reviews or there is a free trial at launch, I doubt I will be playing it. As for Darkfall I still doubt it will be released this year.  But if it does release all other MMO's will shut down so it will be the only choice!

DOAC is still the MMO I judge other games by, My first and still my favorite.

Aion of course, I usually would'nt be looking forwards to a PvP game but Aion will have some good PvE as well. It's more of the same, but when you have been dissatisfied with online games since 2005 who cares?

Anyway, I looked into Darkfall too, it has some nice features but overall I'll wait until it comes out to really flesh out an opinion. The character models are very important to me as well, and I don't mean gritt over fluffy either, I enjoy both, but DF's models already look outdated. :/

I think Dragon Age will come out before DF and though not an MMO it'll be like Neverwinter where you can access hosted servers.. Looking forwards to that! Oh I'm off topic. :D

Not one. Guess how much Blizz invested in the further development of Wow/Wotlk over the past 3 years: exactly 200 million dollars.
    Now dream on.

So basicaly wat indicates that Blizzard dosent know how to use their money Effectively thanks to a large number of subscription and teh features they have impletmnentd arent out of a extra ordinary...investing large sums doesnt make a powerful game but utilizing that few sum in the best  way  in a cost effectve sense is hell lot better.

For me to want to play Darkfall the following would need to happen:

    1.) More Marketing

    2.) Update Character Models

3.) Improve Animations and add real Effects.

4.) Footage of key features, not just words on a website.

5.) Not just some video of random funny animals running around peeveeepee'ing. Sieging footage.

    6.) Polish, polish, polish.

    7.) A Credible UI.

No.2 I dont see as highly likely and could live without. But without the rest this game isnt even worth looking at.

Currently waiting for the MMO industry to put out something good.

Have to agree with Raze, there's a LOT of polish that Darkfall needs to do before I would consider Paying for it.   It has some great concepts, but from what I've seen, I'd relagate it to the F2P catagory(not necessarily a bad thing).  I for one am not under the illusion that FPS style gameplay makes better, look at fighting games, all those have locked targets, and yet they require TREMENDOUS amounts of skill to play, not to mention RTS games which actually require thinking, and not just a fast reaction time.  And as for the graphics, Blade and Soul looks... ummm better.

Aion has some promise, I am under no illusion that the game will introduce revolutionary new things to the MMO genre, but reather taking the best of previous mmos, polishing them and throwing it together.  Mostly, I'm worried about botters/farmers and that the US/EU versians will not have proper customer service.  Otherwise, I'm looking forward to it.

It's almost 2010, and I am just not wiling to tolerate clunky graphics while being told that "gameplay is more important than graphics". That excuse won't wash with me any more. I expect my games to have both good graphics and good gameplay.

So, how would you compare them today? :)

  • djnexusdjnexus Member Posts: 677

Darkfall is more of a niche game than Aion as its full loot pvp. So of course Aion is going to be more popular. Alot of players cant handle that gameplay. It makes you wonder though why players get so attached to there pixels IE there stuff. I find Darkfall to be a great game and something not offered by alot of other games out. Darkfall mob AI is pretty advanced compared to other games and having to actually aim with your bow or staff to fire a spell takes skill not button mashing.

Love people bringing back old threads :D

Pure PvP Darkfall has won in every single way, being a good well rounded game Aion has to win. Also Aion is still popular while darkfall (unless I am very mistaken) is slowly dying through lack of players

  • segretosegreto Member Posts: 9

Aion suffers from that "I came into the game too late, and now I can never compete with verterans" sickness.  I played for 5 months, got to level 50, went on countless raids with an awesome guild, but never really made any progress in pvp because of the time otthers had already invested.  I would get ganked constantly in the Abyss while trying to run missions or during pvp hunts.  The system is too gear oriented, and to get the best gear you have to pvp, which is fine.  But when others have been racking up those pvp points for over a year, you will never catch up to the gear they have.

The game is  beautiful, though.  I didn't vote in your poll, as I didn't play Darkfall, but just a word of warning about investing time in a mmo that frustrated me.
