Yes they might release in '08 but it will not be complete by any stretch of the imagination. I honestly think this game needs another 4-5 years of development from the comments I've seen.

seems to me its actully more ready than aoc was at launch

We resolve to stick with our release date because we know how people tend to plan around this as far as organization, time and hardware goes when they're looking to make a commitment to an MMORPG, especially a competitive one like Darkfall."
And they have stated Darkfall will launch this year. There is no reason to doubt it NOT launching this year.

Xzyax, unless you are a beta tester you have no real idea whats going on. From the quotes given today, I would assume the game is pretty much finished.

wasnt it originally supposed to come out 2006? then 2007?

This is the first time in its development history they've announced a release date.

Oh, really? And what date might that be?

From DF official forums: "At this time we cannot provide you with a date when you will play. In that same vein there is no public release date at this time."

When MMO developers say game will be released in 2008, it means absolutely nothing.

4 or 5 years IS a development timeline, not time you ADD to development. At some point you're defeating the purpose by continuing development. Technology changes, so if you develop something for 11 years, you'd need to scrap it when it's finished and start over again.

The really scary part is that there has been no stress test. What if they do have some great game, but it can only handle 50 players before the server crashes?

The sad thing is that this game did not start development in 2001.

It was officially announced that development was underway in 2001.

We know that Darkfall officially started development in 2000 when Razorwax was formed.

But Darkfall was in the planning / pre-development stage from 1996-7.

Claus and the other developers said this all in the IGN 2001 announcement.

But many or even most of the supporters deny this, or ignore it even though the creator of Darkfall and its lead developer said it himself.

The other sad thing is the “they started everything from scratch (insert any date here)” myth.

The developers never said anything of the kind.

I hope this game does launch or at least start open beta this year but even after 8 years of development I doubt it will.

I believed open beta this year was still a possibility until the latest beta information.

Now we know that they are still in a very early stage of public beta testing still with only a few people, wiping every few days with most of the features and content still not publicaly tested it seems highly unlikely they will manage it in my opinion.

I would say its impossible to go from early public beta to open beta to release client and then launch successfully in 40 days.

And I would also say its also very unlikely they will go from early public beta to open beta in the next 40 days but I will be pleasantly surprised if they do.

Man, you constantly dog people and say the game is going too be too hard for them, theyre whiners, theyre not hardcore enough.

I highly doubt this game will launch this year, and if it does, I look forward to feeding this "Im hardcore, and anyone that doesnt agree with me is a carebear" to you repeatedly. I cannot wait, There are lots of pvp'rs far more experienced than you that have been around in sandboxes for years, like I said youve dogged a lot of em, and if anyone gets a whiff of your in game name, I think a lot of people are going to be looting your gear hoss. Myself included.

For some reason DF makes bells ring in my ear crying out "Shadowbane" which was a great game in concept but poorly funded and executed. The concept again was great but well we all know it never gained much notoriety. The release was horrible.

I will say this using WAR as an example. It's better to wait and be sure you got a winner before you release otherwise you will have a game nobody wants to play after a couple weeks. I personally thing it will never get passed the vaporware label to be honest.

Forty-two days until the end of 2008, and there still isn't any evidence that anyone outside the company is testing. No, unattributed posts from Tasos do not count as evidence.

DF would have to go from its current mystery status (which looks to me like late alpha testing, at best)  to a Gold Build in less than thirty days. I suppose they could stretch that to 40 days if they go without a publisher and have the client as download only.

Either way - no chance. If they do release something in 2008 it will be the buggiest, most incomplete MMO release of all time.

More like Dark & Light to me.

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

I want them to launch when ready. Great concept but I'm a patient man and I can wait if that's the end game.

Well... not sure what to say in answer to that one.

Perhaps the date of this posting might be answer enough.
