First off, people stateside who really want to play Aion it's not worth it because Aion goes into service on the 25th. Secondily you have to enter a validation code to log into the game. The validation code is sent via cellphone text message only to cells phones that have registered service with same exact KSSN that you are registering with. Pretty much screwed to foreigners...unless you have a really close korean buddy overseas...LOL.
Now to the impressions.
_Graphics: The graphics have been an issue for couple of days since the OB. Mainly it had been brought up by loyal WoW carebears and trolls comparing LichKing to Aion. (Korean WoW carebears are known for their forum spam terrors) But this dicussion has been dead for some time now since anyone with specs for optimal settings can clearly see with bare eyes the difference between WoW and Aion. That is unless you have WoW carebears' eyes...you will never really accept anything...
All I can say about the graphics is...I have a crossfire x1900xt. I've run both LichKing and Aion there really is no comparison. LichKing did some new things graphically but it's not anything impressively different from the previous crusades. It's the same game. I play both, occasionaly going back to WoW once and then, but I really don't understand how WoW carebears even bother comparing WoW graphics to any other MMOs such as AoC...I mean come on...how much more unreasonable do you have to be? I understand they're loyal...but their eyes must be coated wtih bribery from blizzard...I don't understand how WoW carebears can be so obsessive.
There was also some argument about character movement being ackward. This discussion also has ended in the past days. WoW trolls in Aion forums were complaining that movement was not fluid. I actually did feel this way when the game was auto set to minimal setting. On minimal setting the character movement seemed uneven to the surrounding environment. But after I set the graphics options to max the character movement was very fluid and I did not see any ackwardness once I got used to the game screen in less that 30 seconds.
Basically the argument has died out with responses from people telling WoW carebears to get a better computer or don't bother playing. Which does in fact make sense in korea. In korea more than 70% of WoW gamers play from home, while L1, L2, Sudden Attack, etc...or Aion is played in PC rooms. Computers in general lacking specs was main reason PC rooms had major boosts from Aion.
_Gameplay: Aion has a unique combo system. Basically there are skills that are linked and can be cast consecutively in chains. Each class having different types. As for the character I am playing is currently a lvl21 Elyoss? assasin ( not a clue what you guys call it in the NA Elyoss or Asmodian, whichever) not the dark skinned one. Anyways, assassin for example after evasion has a chain of skills that can be used.
The game does seem like a skill spamming game when you're killing mobs in the beginning of the game. But it is actually quite complicated due to the fact that, skills are chained in combos, and you have the option to choose which types of skills to use. The skill combo system trully shines in PvP rather than PvE (assuming the opponent is less stupid than the AI) For example you can use one set of skill combos, but in certain situations another set of skills might have been better. In my case, an assassin ( I did PvP once against a same party member who was a defender) I used a skill which boosts evasion for 5 seconds when the opponent was casting a certain spell, which allowed me to use a chain combo after the evasion and stun the opponent for 1-2 seconds, allowing me to get behind him to do a backstab to finish him off with a rare critical blow. (at the current level and equipment crit rate is quite low...especially considering the fact I went with duel swords instead of daggers) This is only the slight taste of the PvP since the Abyss isn't open till service on 25th, and level cap limited to 30 at the moment.
But seriously, that one PvP with another player changed my view on the whole chain combo system. It is quite intriguing, and I am wondering how it will work out in RvR with numerous players.
Contents & Crafting & etc. : The game has alot of crafting crap and mining etc...you can even mine while your flying well, techinically you're not mining after lvl10, since you become a Deva or something...Crafting was alot of crap...food for buffs...weps, armors, bla bla...too much crap I didn't bother...I think it'll pretty much be like WoW...those who craft just craft...those who raid just raid... There's definitely alot of content for 2 weeks of play...which one thing the WoW carebears have been arguing. How much content could NCsoft bring with Service...(seriously they complain about everything, and more than 90% of those WoW carebears didn't even get past lvl10) Content is just something we'll have to see, crafting isn't my thing so I'll pass on the opinion. Too complicated and time consuming thus I passed up on crafting.
As for Quests...it's pretty much WoW...which again WoW carebears say how immature it looks because the lame cutscenes, or how the text seems boring to read...(yea right...seriously these WoW carebears never stop to complain about anything.)
There was one aspect of the game I agreed with WoW carebears...and that's the auto target system AIon system seems to have... there's no stop to attack movement altough you're not facing the enemy. I think Aion is aiming to attract players who are having diffculty with wasd controlling and made it also friendly for point and click...(althought you're missing out precious timing by hack and slashing)
I don't know if they would change this...since from gameplay it seems like they can change it if they want to because the characters don't automatically turn facewise towards attacking enemies instantly. But I think NC is aiming to target L1, L2 group of playerbase as well...
Spamming combo chained skills don't help to add the fact that non auto targeted wasd control would be like playing Gunz online in an MMORPG setting. Think about trying to do Butterfly, Half-Shot, Half-Step and etc...with different types of skills to chain -_-;; I don't know how that will help attract casual gamers...
But then again, I hope they do change it...because I prefer the complex gameplay which gives a better skill gap.
I'm not certain, but they might get rid of the directional auto targeting after service, if majority of the gamers demand it on a survey or something. It doesn't seem impossible with the game engine.
I think I'll stop about here...and go level my character...btw there are alot of midget players...and they are freaking small...character customiation is ridiculous...just think of it as Perfect World ala original Phantasy Star Online upgraded by 100 times...it was too complicated for me so I went with some preset and bit of personal details. There were some ugly people here and there I'd run by, which gave me some good laughs...
GRIND sucks? You wanna be max level in a month?
Since when did society award easy-goers and lazy-fools?
MAKES ME PHOBIC OF STUPIDITY!
Comments
Well all this news just makes me even more excited for the game to hit stateside.
Indeed, this is the in-development game that I'd really like to play when it's out. This ... and hopefully some non-fantacy MMO when it arrives.
Thanks for your impressions! It's all good news to me too, and the WoW carebear comments made me chuckle!!
And we have the same names for the races, Elyos and Asmodian.

Jeebus, how many times was WoW mentioned in a post about Aion?
Nearly everyone that has played an MMO has played WoW. It is a nice grounds for comparison since most people will know what your talking about.

It would have been great if he actually compared the two games... Graphics for example, he never even reviews Aion's graphics, just talks about WoW's graphics and how he doesn't like WoW. It's a bit excessive.
I wouldn't even consider this a review. He says that crafting is crap yet pretty much says he doesn't like crafting and gives erroneous information (again referencing WoW) saying that crafters are crafters and raiders are raiders... however, nearly all of your best crafters were also the hardcore raiders.
Even if there was good information here, I'd take it with a grain of salt...
It's an impression not a review, anyone NOT taking it with a grain of salt needs to be far less naive...

I wouldnt even call it an impression, hehe. Well maby if it was there impressions on a WoW carebear.
playing:DCUO,GW2,WoW
played:SWG,LotRO,CoH,GW,FF14,ESO,AlbionOnline
First off, I'd like to say where I'm coming from... I've played WoW for about 3 years (retired now) and WAR for about a month before I grew tired of it. Before WAR I was anxiously anticipating Aion... and I must admit, I had the tendency to neglect negative opinions of the game and hone in on all the juicy details. Biased? Probably.
With the OBT coming to a close, I've had the chance to read up on some of the blogs/comments through Naver (a Korean search engine). A lot of comments seems to say that the game was enjoyable at first, but quickly grew old. After about a week into it, many opted back to WoW... although Aion was great on paper, it lacked something that truly made it intriguing.
A lot of folks in Korea have been commenting that while the game had its merits, it didn't warrant them to pay to play the game.
Now, I know this news is disheartening to a lot of the fans waiting for the games release, but I wanted to share some of the reactions Aion is receiving in Korea. It's really disappointing later on when you shell out the money to buy the game and find out it wasn't the game you expected. This happened to me and WAR, I felt cheated after so much hype and so little satisfaction.
Of course, there are still others that do enjoy the game. My only regret is that I missed out on the chance to play and test for myself... I had an account created but my laptop had to be serviced right before OBT launch.
Its daunting to open your eyes to reality but all things MUST be taken into consideration. Anyways, one of the criticism that I enjoyed listening to was people complaining how the game is similar to WoW... hell, if this is the case, I'm sold. Although retired from WoW, there must've been something magical in the game that not only hooked me in for the past 3 years, but also 10 million other subscribers still playing today.
My 2cents.
After watching the trailers I see NO difference in the quality of WoW and AION.
Open your eyes more? *groan* Why even bother posting?

You obviously do not know how to read. He didn't say the crafting was crap, he was saying there was a lot to do with crafting and he didn't have time to invest into it because of the short duration available to play the game.
But who knows how true it is >.<
To put it bluntly, the OP isnt a crafting person. Hence he does not care much for it.
For those who dont know already, crafting and gathering has a chance of failure. It also has a chance of critical success.
E.g. I may fail to gather green herbs. I may get a crit on pink weed and get more weed as a result.
I can't wait for this game! I just hope it is able to compete with WOW. It's so difficult these days. Seems like the casual players all go to WOW, and the rest (must smaller in numbers) bounce around 1 game at a time.
Aside from the fact the OP talks more about Wow fans than the game, it's yet another MMORPG that will cater for the 300K homeless western MMO players. Pity for the War and AoC fans, but yet another killer coming home.
Jumping from one game to another with the usual MMORPCOM hype and Wow hate. Not the least the usual bitching against Wow players.
No more money from me after Van, LOTRO, TR, AoC and War. Thank you. Economy is too bad to have subs for trials.
And certainly not for a Korean grinder.
Western based succes: 250K sales max, 100K subs after 3 months and best game of the year award by MMORPG.COM 2 weeks before launch.
Anyone else to put in 5 million dollars in development? Nope? Have a nice time in the next underdevelopped game made by MMO companies who know nothing about gameplay.
Only valid alternative I am willing to wait for is a game like Kotor (but hey EA is behind it so tough luck )
"A not so stupid Wow player that just stopped playing other underdevopped Beta trials."
Comparing Aion's actual status with WAR's or AoC's is laughable. Aion is years ahead.
After watching the trailers I see NO difference in the quality of WoW and AION.
ARE YOU STILL SURE TENSPOTTING?
I find this hard to believe. WoW is the shallowest game in existence. I don't see how its possible for Aion to be less intriguing than WoW unless you're given max level and all your gear and a cinematic that explores all the locations for you in the first five hours.
Bans a perma, but so are sigs in necro posts.

On the last day of OB there were enourmous queues on all of the servers, so I doubt the veracity on that statement. Today Aion reached 250k players simoultaneously if not more in Korean OB.
The game is not a korean grinder, WoW is a good game, and eveyone can relate to it so alot of people compare games to it. Nothing more nothing less. Alot of people are just tired of WoW and looking for something new. The OP is probably one of those people that are tired of WoW.
You being angry at AoC and WAR has nothing to do with Aion, no one here is saying, " Aion is going to be the new WoW killer". TBH it's most likely not going to be the next WoW killer. And most of us here know that. But to not research and call it another 'Korean Grinder' is just plain retarded. We know alot of people are tired of empty promises. Also the fact that NCsoft is trying to combind western and eastern fundamentals. Which may appeal to some and may not.
Its just not respectable to bash a game you havent researched.

Honestly' I wouldn't want it to be the next WoW killer simply because that would mean it was designed similarly to WoW and attracted its lovely community, both of which would make the game completely unpalletable.

Yeah, WoW's community is not totally bad you find a few good apples as oppossed to the many bad ones. IMO it has more of an FPS community, and while thats ok. I'd much rather have an EQ type community where when you ask someone for something or about something, and they dont look down apon you and call you a nooblet.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for Aion's success. I was a little disappointed myself when I heard from OBT players that it wasn't really addicting. Now, I'm sure Aion's endgame is great, but that's the exact same feeling I got about WAR... except I couldn't get past level 20 out of complete boredom. What WoW did right was how it captivated users to spend endless hours leveling to 60/70 and have endgame to strive for (wheather it be pvp rank, gear, raid bosses, trade skills, etc.)
Also, you have to take into account that a lot of the comments I heard were coming off WoW players, which to me is pretty important. Filtering out all the fanboys, a critical review of Aion through a WoW players perspective, the game does NOT deliver. Add to the fact that most likely, the majority of beta testers of Aion were coming off from Lineage II userbase, it comes to no surprise that the game continued strong to 250k silmutaneous connections... even if the WoW players opted out. Couple that with continuous TV advertisement bombardment (after every commercial while watching SC matches), the game in all respect, should have continuously grown throughout OBT.
Overall, to truly see Aion's potential, we'll have to see how the game actually fairs after its official launch tomorrow. However, even this is biased as the userbase (and expectations) are different from both the U.S. and Korea (WoW vs Lineage fans).
