I tried Tabula Rasa and was wripped off like everyone else. The game was probably about 25% ready for live serves when it launched. It did have some cool ideas but the implementation was less than stellar.
Yeah i for one think it is fucking ridiculous , a game that lasted not even 2 years!!! Ooooooooohhhhhh a whole free month of game play , what the hell is the point in playing and advancing your character when service will stop.

Why is it "ridiculous"?
It's called business. The game obviously wasn't paying the bills so they are pulling the plug. NC isn't like SOE and keeps everything running on a welfare "pass thing" with 2 games basically keeping 7 or 8 alive. MMO's are business and business wasn't good for Tabula Rasa.
Be honest, not enough people cared about this game hence the subscriber rates being as low as they were. If the game was making money, it wouldn't have gotten unplugged. NCSoft announced a while back they were looking to do this so its not a big shock.
Its not like the current subscribers aren't getting anything from NC. They are basically getting a bunch of free time on their other games plus beta and free time to Aion. It's over $100 in free play time.
* 3 free months of City of Heroes including digital client. $45.00
* 3 free months of Lineage II including digital client $45.00
* Aion beta access (coming soon)
* Aion pre-order access (available in 2009)
* 1 free month of Aion including digital client(available in 2009) $14.99
Did you even subscribe to the game???? If not then it's "ridiculous" that you think it's "ridiculous" that they are shutting it down. Maybe if less people thought it was "ridiculous" and actually paid for the game, it wouldn't be shutting down.
The really kick int he nuts to the community, besides the shutdown announcement, is the fact they are going to continue to collect subs until 10 Jan '09. Freakin turn the sub fees off for your fan base now you fuckers
Cool your jets mately.
NCSoft made a very nice package for the people currently subscribed. Very, very nice.
I agree, the perks for being a subscriber when the announcement hit are very generous and other companies with multiple MMO's should take note of their actions. Having said that though, I still think its a crock to have to conttinue to pay for a sub for a closing game AFTER the announcement of its closure was made. Once they announced they should have gone F2P in my book, but hey, its their game they're closing.
For all he TR players, sorry for the loss and best of luck in your new MMO. I know how you all feel, I remember when they announced E&B's closure a few years ago. I'm sure the MMO player community would be more than willing to pass along free trials, buddy keys, etc while looking for your new virtual home.

It's actually more than what you just quoted above because you're also getting the L2, CoX, and Aion clients which one would otherwise have to purchase seperately from a subscription. Well, CoX and Aion at least. I don't know dick about L2.

100$ is a number i would be careful with, cox sucks (though character creation is nice) l2 is a bot fest, and aion will be a weeaboo gay pride rally =free.
you are REALLY getting about 10$ of free crap, they may as well just send out "i got shafted by lord british" t-shirts.

Yeah I'm not sure about that "client" part. You may end up paying for the client once the free time is over. That blurb isn't specific enough at this point.
such a waste of all that development time and for people who bought the game to effectively lose the ability to play it, surely these companies can think of some other solution instead of straight shutting it down.
I hate seeing this happen it was an awsome game and the amount of hours put into it would have been huge :( Best wishes for the future.

Well, I for one will never buy another NCsoft game....ever.
Just out of curiousity....why is that?
They made an unprofittable game so they are shutting it down. (good business sense)
They are offering the current players a very nice package of benefits (trying to take care of the customer in light of the situation)
They got rid of the Bozo, "Spaceman Spiff" who was responsible for the entire mess the company has gotten itself into the last 6 or 7 years over here in the western market. (more good business sense) By the way anyone who thinks ol' lord brit just up and left on his own is dreaming. This has been brewing for months.
Name me one single MMO that has FPS combat with 25,000+ players.....
You cant.
Richard and company spent like 7-8 years making this game ? I played it for 2 hrs and threw it in the trash. It was nothing more than a console shooter game with a subscription fee.
The game was a good idea, and I enjoy parts of it. That said, a business needs a leader who is present. When you have Richard Garriot off playing Major Tom, and the others left to mind the store aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer, the game will suffer.
The issue is partly being an FPS MMO. Unfortunately, the MMO community doesn't seen to want anything out of the box. People complain why they don't make more innovative games outside the fantasy sword and spell games. It's because most players don't WANT them! Other than EVE, CoX and SWG, there have been no games outside this model who have had any success. Games like Fallen Earth and Global Agenda will have marginal success on opening, then drop off as the retards gravitate back towards WoW, LotRO and now WAR. For big numbers, developers can't drift from a model first started by Gary Gygax three decades ago!
The other issue is the game not being complete and well-managed. It offered a lame attempt at PvP, yet didn't spend enough time making up for it on the PvE side(storyline, related quest-line, etc.). A lot of stuff that should have come out with the game's release was delayed for months(For-pay Beta release syndrome). The crafting system was laughable, and offered no real benefit to armor or weapons over dropped items.
I'm personally glad to hear Space Cadet Garriot lost money on this, and hope this takes away any aura he had before this release.

True, and then apply the lost cash spent on UO2 and then what ever that other UO Game was supposed to be :P
They could have made a killer UO 2. They just tried to put it out to fast when the game was still going well. We could use a UO 2 about now
I hate seeing this happen it was an awsome game and the amount of hours put into it would have been huge :( Best wishes for the future.

What i find extremely unfortunate about the shut-down of TR is the message its sends to Dev's: `Don't dare to be different!`
Well, I for one will never buy another NCsoft game....ever.
We will have a UO2 next month. It is called Darkfall Online.
''98-''99 UO (Golden days!)
''00-''02 CS; SB beta
''03-''04 MODO
''04-''07 WoW
''07 - SB
Waiting for Darkfall and PoBS
You really expect it to be released in december? They have been taunting about releasing this year, but there haven't been a single anouncement....
