The next awesome MMORPG

Ok, I got into WOW a little bit but never had the time to level up to the top.  I'd like to get into a new game and spend more time with it; looking for a game not just focused on WAR, with immersive environment (economy, crafting, PVP, PVE).  Looking for something like WOW but would like to get in on the ground floor and not 4 years in.

Any ideas?

Lord of the Rings Online just launched an expansion with new classes so there are a bunch of people leveling up right now.

You might want to check that game out.

And ZtyX's opinion is that WoW sucks and Darkfall will be good.

What are you suggesting, that people are only allowed to give their opinion if it is congruent with yours?

Yeah a lot of people seem to do that or If you say anything negative about any game you get called a Troll.  Also if you post in a forum of a game you don't intend to play you always get the response "then why are you posting here" or some other random non friendly response.

I don't question why they post in a forum why ask me? Some people are just always defensive, I like to hear others opinions and to debate on them. I may not always agree but I respect their views.

But to be on topic.   I think that the mmo Square Enix  is working on will be the next big MMO for me. But I don't think there will be another MMO that will have as many players as WoW has. Aion will probobly have a lot of subs but I don't think WoW's subs will decline anytime soon.

hmm.. i'm playing atlantica online, and at level 85.. although its battle system is not like wow (more of a turn based system), everything you've said (economy, crafting, PVP, PVE) is very good.. crafting in itself is fun and time consuming :D for pvp's, there is the weekly championship and free league.. up until now, im enjoying playing this game and never a dull moment.

LOL, the whole world? hardly, I first ran across Darkfalls website back in 2001, I do bellieve it was that long ago, I could be wrong, followed the game very closely for 2 or 3 years till I realized it was more talk then anything else.

Whats even more funny is the hype its getting after the way the hype and releases of the last half dozen or so MMoRPGs went, looks like you dimwits would wake up, but I guess you never will...if DF ever does release it won't be the be all to end all that some of you seem to think, hopefully it will be good enough to survive and justify the decade of development its went thru, but either way I definitly am not waiting for nor do I expect anything of it.

After 15 days of the Lich King, the only thing one can say : there isn't an MMORPG in sight touching this product.

Not even in a wide range. let the Wow hate rage. No problem. Go ahead let it out.

Play all MMO games you want, but what the Lich King showed in development and design it simply has no competition. PVP ? What about air land sea battles where you can build your own tanks and artillery in a destructable City/Keep that looks like Berlin 45 after the battle.  PVE? flying, bombarding, rescue civilians, have changing worlds that change to your own experiences and quest progression, in game movies etc,  1900 recepies only in one new patch. Pfff...Helicopters were already in, now they have craftable flying carpets to fly all over the adventures you do. Sandbox? what's more sandbox than crafting your own motorbikes or flying carpets and lay waste at a gigantic Castle.

The only disavdantage is that you need to level through it before reaching those end levels of WotLK, but as this would take you now about 2 or 3 months, this is even worth it in view of the so called wow-killing crap that was being published these last few years.

I am now - more then ever - interested in that new MMO from Blizzard in 2 years time. If they could pull this off with an old game of 4 years, imagine what they can do with a new setting.

In 2 months you can have the best, most developped and largest MMORPG at your feet, why waste money on products which were developped with 3% of the money Blizz invested.

Not even talking of the future and past dead MMO's. With this economy I only see a handfull of survivors.

Pretty cool;to invest in something which will no longer be around in 6 months...

I was with you until this statement.  Don't get me wrong, I hate WoW just as much as the next ol' timer, and can recognize a well polished content-riddled game.  The only problem is that this content is 95% linear content.  I havent played Wrath so I don't know much about crafting your own motorbikes, but I'm sure Blizz has put a linear twist on what it sounds like.  On the off chance that its a fun and completely non-linear feature, sandbox lovers/wanters wont waste 50+ $ plus 15/month to build their own motorbikes in the end game.

WoW is full of content and is very, dare I say, fun.  But it's so empty and meaningless that after 2-3 months of playing I feel sick to my stomache.  I look back and I have no memories.  Even laughing my way from 1-70 on ventrilo with my best friend I can look back and see no defining moments of the game.  I can, however, look back on my experiences in a sandbox game (UO) and talk about the memories I had for hours, or even days with my friends who played with me.

Sorry Blizz, you got a great game their, but I've matured past it.  I want to play a game, not be herded through it.  I get a sword from the scripted quest you have me do, then I keep it until I am high enough level to replace it through a new scripted event.  I can kill these MOBs in this zone (who are programmed to die) until I ding the next level and can finally go to this zone, and wear this armor.  *Yawn*  Been there, done that.

Give lotro a shot.  If you aren't familiar with the lore it may seem a bit overwhelming and foreign to you though.

Oh, and keep in mind the game is based on the books, NOT the movies.

Well, nothing that is just out now 'cept Spellborn. It is a very special game and either you love or hate it. Dunno if it have crafting though and if you don't like the graphical style it got, don't bother. Cool combat system at least.

With the upcoming games there is one that will be big (I promise): Guildwars 2. The team who makes it was the first team that worked on Wow and there will be no monthly fees on it. It is supposed to be as good as finnished but Arenanet wont release it without lots of testing, they don't release unfinnished products, but it will be 2009.

Upcoming Old republic online is also a sure bet but I dunno when it will release. It could take years.

Then there are other upcoming games like Darkfall, Aion, World of darkness online and so on, can't promise that any of those will be big or not ('cept Aion in Korea).

Let me guess....you hit level 80 in about 7-10 days.  In those 7-10 days of leveling through a bunch of new quests and zones you essentially did exactly what you did in pre-BC and in Outlands.  I'd also hazard to say that in those 10 levels you replaced only 2-3 pieces of gear (from your raid and/or pvp epic gear), and that nearly every drop/quest reward has been vendored/auctioned/disenchanted.

At this point you are beginning to grind reputation or finishing up boar/wolf killing quests for some gold.  OR, you're beginning to do some pvp or raiding for the sole purpose to replace youf level 70 gear with incremental stats...because that's all there is do do in WoW.  You will do this for the next 1-2 YEARS until the next expansion.  At which time you will mindlessly shamble out and buy the expansion to begin the cycle again.

Yeah, sounds like loads of fun.  I did that for one cycle (Burning Crusade).  Not interested in ever doing it again.

On the other hand, in this economy is computer games one of the cheapest hobbys you can get, 10-15 bucks is nothing compared to most other hobbys so maybe the MMOs wont be hit so hard. When I am poor at least I game a lot more.

And yes, Wow is good, basicly because it aims for all players. I know games that have a single aspect better than wow, I really don't think it is best on anything 'cept art but it is good with all things, that is why it have so many players.

But you shouldn't bet money on Blizzards next MMO, past succes is no guarantee for future one. Also they will compete with themselves. On the other hand is Wow aging and maybe the game will be Wow 2.  Still, it can go anyway as with most things.

LOL .. UO is never a very good game in the first place. Ganging, tank mage, boring skill grinding .. no wonder once EQ comes out, everyone jumps ship.

I would be surprise if Darkfall can get even 1/10 of WOW's subscription size .. that is .. if it comes out at all.

  • RazephonRazephon Member UncommonPosts: 628

I'm personally waiting on Aion to come out.

Mortal Online sounds very interesting but thats over a year away so you wont see me lose any sleep over it until it gets more publicised.

I've gotta admit, right now is the darkage of MMOs. The tyrant called WoW reigns dominant over the feeble competitors in the market. Small bands of mercenaries in the ranks of WAR fight a losing battle. The AoC warcamp struggles to survive.

TCoS is already setting itself up for disaster.

Currently waiting for the MMO industry to put out something good.

I recommend WoW, if for some reason you dont want to play WoW (crazy in my opinion unless you've just "finished" with it) then LOTRO is your next best bet.. I hear the new LOTRO expansion is good, the new WoW expansion is excellent.

Uhm, the OP does want a new game, not wow or something else old.

And Wow doesn't work for all people, taste differs, don't make anyone crazy for liking any game or not.

So reccomend him any game that been out a few months or will be out soon.
