I'm not a hardcore raider though. I perfer the smaller instances and a big one every once in a while.

Listen to me , Wow is addictive, because blizzard wants to make it addictive, ...addiction  is very good feeling that creates some fluwit in your brains , wich if you get it a lot , you need more of it, and cant stop playing anymore, *note that this not afect everyone, but some people*

I truly belief that Lotro is not created on the basis of addiction, but more on value and story, now this may seem more boring...why? cuz its a lot less adictive, adiction is what some people make happy becouse it creates a good fluwit inside your brains... just like gambling and smoking does, only some difrent form.

But lotro has now in Mom, shorther instance and raids, i dont think any takes longer then 2 hours. whit Wow you sit 4-6 hours behind your computer for a large raid and even the smaller ones might take prety long some may even take multiply days to complete in Wow..., only problem whit lotro is that now is a bid late to start the game imo, its prety hard to get groups for the old instance and books, so you may have to skip parts of volume 1 , but that counts the same for wow i gess...thou thay dont have a real story so it would be less hurting.

    Playing: World of Warcraft.
Played: Lord of the Rings Online, Starwars Galaxies.
Tried: Starwars the Old Republic, Everquest 2, Guild Wars, Vanguard, Age of Conan, Aion.

I like WoW, but I really dread more of the "kill 10 rats" reskinned as "kill 10 scourge" quests. So I would appreciate some pros and cons of both. Please be objective. I love to RP and I like a good smathering of PvE and PvP. I love to explore as well.

Could some of you kind gentlefolk *cough* care to persuade me one way or the other?

I played WOW until level 70 and a few other level 60 tunes and just got completely bored, but up until level 50 or so I was completely addicted and loved exploring the world and communicating with my friends. Since Lord of the Rings were my favorite books, I gave that a try and was amazed at how polished the game was at release. However, I quit my Loremaster at level 47 or so because I found it just didnt have that same addictive quality that WOW gave me the first 3 years. Maybe its because I love magic classes and magic is not a big part in Lord of the Rings as compared to other games. The Loremaster was hardly a mage or a warlock and I just got bored. Also there was just so many of the same monster I could kill through 40 levels. They had Wargs everywhere and that became EXTREMELY monotonous. The game does have strong Chapters, similar quests, a great community, but something about the world itself and the classes just got very old very quickly with me and I stopped playing after 4 months. If they added some new magic classes I might consider trying them, though the WARG issue would probably still remain.

    There Is Always Hope!

I think with this new expansion that added the Rune-priest which is supposed to be a mage like class.

If you been reading my previous post in here then you would know why WOW has addictive quality, cuz its made to be addictive just like 99% of blizzard games...is it wrong? and do you want to be or have an addictive game? thats something for you to deside.

From what I have read here it looks like you would be better off in LOTRO.  Personally I have played most of the games out there and I am not one for end game.  I think if you play a MMO for the end game you are missing out on what an MMORPG is supposed to be.  If you want end game go play Counter Strike, or Call of Duty, that is what your looking for, you start max level and all your trying to do is unlock weapons by playing...hmm sounds like the battle grounds to me.  This argument has no real end because there are people out there that believe an MMORPG is all about hitting cap and then sitting there thinking, "Well this game sucks there is nothing to do"  well of course it does you blew past all the content racing to max level.  In short I found WOW to be fun at first but got old REAL quick, it was to easy to level, the game is about end game not getting there but LOTRO is about having fun and enjoying the things around you, one of the only MMO's out where you can just sit in a field of flowers and watch the wind blow over them, or just sit by a lake and watch the water effects along with the sun going down, its amazing.

WotLK. No doubt if you want to have ALL options spread out.

Big gap now with anything else on the market. Forget about basic Wow. Better storylines, ingame cinematics (new)personal mount flying, massive underwater worlds, 1900 new recipies, open world PvP zone, 6 arenas, 5 Bg's now, helicopters, personal flying carpets, daily heroic quests, account bound gear and an avatar that moves without a stick in his ass. 600 western servers full of players to choose from (Rp,Pve,PvP,RpPvP,RpPVe,...)

    WotLK not Wow.

For the guy above: nothing beats walking in a rainy storm in old Wow, until they made the new zones in ... WotLK. Northrend is speechless. Only silence can do justice to the lay out of the Fjords.

I played both games and I would recommend WoW......LoTRO does have a few neat things but it just gets old pretty quickly.....WoW has alot more to offer IMO and youll certainly meet alot more people there.

I played both, and whatever i say here is my own personal experience not hearsay.

WoW was fun at first (my first instance, raid, guild..etc) i beat TBC and finished the game, before the beta was out.

    Good things about WoW:

    - Exclusive PvE raids (not everyone can accomplish what you would accomplish in PvE)

    - easy money farming.

    Bad things about WoW:

-shitloads of immature ppl playing with you.

-Whatever your class is, its either a weak class or an 'OP' class that everyone else seems to hate. (expect buff/nerf calls ALL THE TIME). this gets boring real quick.

-state of PvE is degrading with the increased developer-focus on the lousy arena side of the game.

-gold sellers is a REAL ANNOYING part of the game.

-Farming & Grinding makes up about 75% of the game.

    Good things Lotro:

    -realistic environment graphics.

-Better PvE content / lore (i didnt bother with the lore of wow, since it was so boring tbh)

-mature ppl to hang around with and quest with.

-gear comes from quests not instances.

-you wont have to visit the same instance more than twice (less headache), but you will group up with ppl alot for the group quests (more fun without the headache).

-fun fighting mechanisms (especially with the newest two classes- runekeeper and warden).

-"Monster Play": for those who like to play with evil sides. (u get a max level monster that you get to fight against other players). you can buy gear, and 'grow' ur mosnter as u play it more often.

-You can buy houses and decorate your house.

-Your guild can have a guild house for themselves.

-I havent seen a single gold spam ad since i started playing.

-THERE IS NO THREAT METER ADDON (hardcore shit),

    Bad things Lotro:

-Races are humans, dwarfs, hobbits, and elfs (if u played horde in wow like me, ur out of luck).

-money is abit harder than in wow to get. ex: 1gold in Lotro = 1000silver. for a lvl16, i have less than 300silver without buying anything from AH :)

-jumping in Lotro isnt as fun as jumping in WoW.

-THERE IS NO THREAT METER ADDON (yes i put i twice, because i havent raided yet so i dunno the implications).

my two cents as an ex-wow pve raider.

and btw, i only played WotLK in the beta, and i didnt intend on buying it no matter what. Its always the same thing with blizzard expansions: Create a new area, buff up item stats, and design new boss graphics that have the same shitty strategies to beat.

    No thanks.

If you like story, movie sequences, exploration, and the journey...LOTRO is king.

If you like raiding, battlegrounds, and dungeons, WOW is better.

Personally , i preferred lotro over wow. Though i am not an end gamer.

i like both myself and alternate between the two of them and warhammer depending on what mood i m in . warcraft if very slick and as a fun game it wins hands down . lord of the rings has a far better community and its a far superiour rpg ( it also looks nicer graphically ) . warhammer i like for full on pvp . i would say just play one till you bet a little bored of it then play another for a while . after all there seams to be two years inbetween expansions . plenty of time to immerse yourself in several games.

I would recommend WoW/WOTLK for sure, I didnt want it.. but now I'm enjoying it.

LOTRO is really an excellent game, but putting it up against WoW really isnt fair =)  For PVE players who dont like WoW or are just tired of it LOTRO is the way to go... though if you are like me.. once you are tired of WoW everything else just seems like more of the same but not as well done....... and theres nothing to play =(

I played LOTRO. I thought it was a piece of junk.

The Engine runs terrible and lags...  and the graphics in alot of places are just plain crap.
