The Elder scrolls III: Morrowind and it's expansion packs. (Bloodmoon and Tribunal) - Hundreds of quests and sub quests - Great graphics (if played with some new-graphics mods) - a Huge island with lot's of cities, towns, forts, camps, settlements, port etc. - Tons of dungeons! (Caves, Burials, Cemetary, Old Castles) - Alot of Jobs/Classes (or make your own ) - you have alot of freedom! so you don't have to follow the storyline and just go and explore or do sub quests (there are many!) you can also make your own home with the editor (which comes with the game) or you can just kill someone and use his house. You can also steal/pick up almost everything! :P - You can make your own magic spells and potions - There are tons of mods for this game - it'll keep you busy for a long time :P
It's really worth your money and it doesn't cost that much (10 Euro's for Morrowind only back here in holland) . just try to find the "Game of the year" edition wich contains both add-ons.
For thirty bucks you can g et the game plus 2 expansions (gold pack) plus their are some very good multiplayer NwN mods out there (similiar to a mmoprg is some aspects)
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
Make sure you like D&D rules in your PC RPGs if your going to get Morrowind. Personally I feel that NWN and strict D&D ruled games are too limiting in what you can do. Some of the modded servers are much better but even then they are usually just so small and short.

I think nothing will ever compare to the Baldurs Gate games (Not dark alliance). Definitely a classic.

Here are some great RPGs/ActionRPGs to hold you over until your selected MMO is release...
1. Fallout/Fallout2 - Topdown, 2D graphical adventure game set in post apocalyptic United States. Features incredible storyline and questing, extreamly immersive gameplay and turn based stratagy fighting.
2. Arcanum - Incredible RPG following in Fallouts footsteps, except in a fantasy setting of Technology versus Magic. Very cool story line, many skills and abilities to choose from. Some extreamly unique features. Fantastic Story.
3. Gothic/Gothic II - Now I played Gothic 2 before gothic 1, which was a mistake since the second one tells you all the important facts from the first one! Playing them in order would be a very cool experiance. This game is completly 3D and features a sword/magic combat system that is very innovative, yet slightly hard to control.
4. Morrowind - Already mentioned in an earlier post. You can get the GOTY edition for under 20 bucks these days in bargain bins. This includes all the expansions. Very good buy.
5. Deus Ex 1 & 2 - Probably two of my favorite offline action RPGs, the deus ex series gives you freedom in an oppresive, futuristic world. You play a secret agent who is thrown into the middle of a very copmlex goverment conspiricy based on Nano Technology. The second one features an incredibly revamped graphics engine that really screams on high end machines. Amazing story throughout both of them. Definently good plays.
6. Diablo 2 - An oldie but a goodie :-D Try replaying this one if your desperate for some old-style RPG action!
7. Dungeon Siege - A big hit from Microsoft, Dungeon Siege is a party based RPG, lite on story but hard on combat. A great play if your into group based tactical combat in real time.
My personal favorite is Elder Scrolls Daggerfall ^_^ its an oldie, but hey a great single player rpg ^^ and then vampire the masquerade redemption^^ and elder scrolls morrowind course hehe

Heres a third vote on Baldurs Gate, especially BG2.
Also, if you dont mind old school RPGs, you CAN NOT go wrong with Ultima 7, one of my favorite RPGs of all time. Also if your into console gaming or can find a PC version, Final Fantasy 7 is very good too.
BGII was epic for me. It put me in the "RPG scene" and I would not be posting in these forums today if it werent for that good game. NWN was also fun. I beat it in a week but it was still interested. I replayed it with all the expansions and got a month out of it. Overall good game. Icewind Dale II was too complex for me. Controlling every one of your characters each fight and having to level up each of your characters....got boring really quickly. I gave it 5 days.

They are more commonly known as "Stand Alone Games".
There are many, many, famous ones. But this here site MMORPG.com is about online MMORPGs.
Still, some that you should check out :
- Dungeon Siege II
- Dungeon Siege
- Neverwinter Nights
- Fallout
- Robin Hood ..... and/or...... Commandos
- Baldur's Gate
- everygame listed by everyone else who posted!
and if you can find the MAME, and/or emulater, all the Ultima titles which are 100% responsivle for every RPG, and MMORPG existing. Ultima I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII.
Also Bard's Tale I, II, III. And the Phantasie series.
Worth to mention is BGII (and if you like good ole dungeon crawl) Temple of elemental evil
another old game, perhaps not THAT much rgp per se, but still a fun and addictive game is a small VB game called Mordor. I only have the demo (3 first lvls) but it has kept me occupied hours and hours over the years.

When it comes to the openess of a rpg I like Elder Scrolls III the best. Although it is a tad bit to open ended for me, I was getting easly side tracked killing everyone that I could to make cash lol.
I really love NWN for their "graphical MUD" feel servers that other have created. There was a post on here one day with someone's server that looked very good but I like the link for it and never got around to trying it yet
I also tried the new Temple of Elemental Evil game and for a DnD game it seemed to followed the new ruleset very well, so if DnD is your thing I would suggest that as well.
For a game with one of the most interesting storylines that I have ever played in I would go with Planescape: Torment. This is an older game and does not have very good graphics, but a damn good story line (just remember that its not your normal storyline).
Those are my top picks, happy gaming!

Gothic 1-2 Storyline is just awesome, but okay them in order.
BG series, especially BG2.
NWN, especially the horde of the underdark expansion were you reach epic lvl, great fun.
System shock 2, allthough not truelly a RPG but it is very close, FPS/RPG. It does not get any better.
I would also like to add an adventure game to that list, not RPG at all, but insane fun.
Gabriel Knigth series 1-3, 1 and 3 are the best, 2 is motion capture (real actors and stuff).

I recommend Sacred. It had problems at release, but they all seem to have been resolved by the patching process.
They just released a free plus pack that includes new quests, two new zones and more items.

best offline rpg:
Zelda, the ocarina of time (n64) good times
FFXI (ps2)
Wizardry 8 is another great one. Party based gameplay, basically the best of the party based games which are similar to Bard's Tale or Might & Magic.
Great, great game.
