I was hoping for..more but I did enjoy what I saw and heard.
Pretty much exactly what I was expecting. No more, no less.
It was nice to see that Kel Dor soldier walk by the swoop bike... but I hope the bike's not just for show....
"THE SAGA BEGINS ONLINE" [forget about SWG] ...lol
They said the key words, 'Live in the Star Wars Universe'.
BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.
Wow, that looks great guys!
Looks good. Here's to hoping it will be.
Looks really good. I do have one worry about combat though, and that's if the speed of combat will be so quick that we'll be starting at our hotbars more than the fight itself. In WOW and most other games I am looking more at my hotbars to click the next ability than I am at the fight itself.

Looks great! I'm trying not to get too excited. Bioware has never disappointed..
Just a video version of the magazine and online articles we have already seen. Still not a single word about crafting, economy or other non-combat game play.
I know it's early, but if they are going to start up the marketing hype machine already, they better have something to show. For them to make their 2009 date, for Christmas shopping in November, they have less than a year left. If you subtract 2-3 months for Beta, there's only eight or nine months before the game should be basically feature complete and in debug/polish mode.
Based on what we have seen so far, the game appears to be in early development, and Bioware is promising the largest number of quests we have ever seen, on top of everything else we expect ready for launch in a modern mmo. I'll be shocked if this game isn't pushed until at least Q2 2010. I mean what mmo in the last several years didn't get pushed from the original launch date? I suppose they may be further along in development than they want to show right now, but that's probably just wishful thinking.
A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.
Where did you read this game would be released in 2009? I've always had the impression this game wasn't releasing for 2-3 more years.

Still early but this really is looking good. I been a long time Bioware gamer and I tell ya fans will not be disappointed Keep up th good work Bioware!
I think what was shown looks great, for the most part. I like the stylized look.... granted its more "cartoony" but I play video games for fun... like they said: Alot of the next gen games are starting to look alike because everything is looking more realistic. Combat though, not sure how much I like the way it looks.... I would prefer to be able to play a game that while watching it looks more like the battles in the movies or in the clone wars series: a great deal of blocking and evading not just whiffs and hits that deplete a health pool lol. Perhaps tech is not really there yet to offer that kind of experience but when a lightsaber can cut through a blast door to have one hit a person and for them not to be sliced in half like darth maul offends me lol.
I really, really, really hope they are able to bring the trademark BioWare story magic to the game, I did notice they said more content than all their other games combined... I am wondering does this include Dragon Age? And I wonder how much of it is go kill x amount of nunas and take their legs to so and so lol.

"For the first time in an MMO your choices will finally actually matter!"
Lmao.....ohhhhh god developers these days are so funny.
Care to elaborate or is this a private joke?
Just curious what's so funny about the quotes you posted.

You're joking right? For the first time in an MMO your choies will make a difference?
1) That's what MMOs are all about. Choices. Do what you want. You have almost infinite choices and those choices always have a consequence and they "matter". How in the hell can they say that this is the first MMO where your choices "matter"?
2) I can't count how many times I've heard the same stuff in every single interview. "Your choices matter. Millions of things to do. The game is massive. Epic proportions. Bigger than all of our others. Our own art style. Something for everybody to do no matter your playstyle." This video is a just a bunch of brief clips put together and a few developers saying the same things every developer says in their videos.
Thought what I was laughing at was quite obvious.
Sorry I'm kind of trolling on these videos, but I honestly try not to. It's just that this MMO seems like it's going to be such a hard train wreck and I can't help myself.

You should take things in context. BioWare is talking about the story-line progression of your character and the choices you can take along that path. And if you can point me to a single game that has something like that out there, please, do so.
In other MMO's, you have a set amount of quests and there is nothing you can do about how to do them. You either do the task, or you don't. BioWare wants to give you options to further flesh out your character. (Note, I am not saying this is a super-duper-uber great system. I personally like the idea, but it's a matter of preference).

Again, take it in context. They said they have more content in this game than in all "their" games combined. They say the game is massive, obviously they would. And quite frankly...what did you expect from the first video after announcement of the game?
Thought what I was laughing at was quite obvious.
I took this video as what it was. Developers doing the usual developer talk and showing some nice stuff from in-game footage. The combat looked, to me, really nice, considering the state of the game.
Other than that...well, read the red text. Cheers.

Oh... thanks for snapping me out of it. It's been a long day. I may be mixing this up with another new game on the release date, but I've read a couple places that TOR has been in dev already since 2005 (!) Sure doesn't look like it.

Most people believe concept work started sometimes in 2005 (that's what BioWare said anyway).
Production of the game itself began 2006, as stated on their website.
Judging from that, and the fact they are using an already existing engine, the most optimistic (and realistic) people guess for a mid 2010 release with (closed) Beta starting mid-end 2009.

Ya I guess I jumped to conclusions a little too fast. But like I said when I edited, the game just sounds like a trainwreck. Who wants to play a single player game with a couple of choices in an MMO? That's the exact OPPOSITE of what people want now-a-days. If these developers had any idea what was wanted by true gamers, they would create a sandbox MMO.
When will they learn? Game developers keep falling into this same trap. This game seems to be two years away from release, yet they already want to get people excited about it before they have anything to show. They should have kept it down to a press release, and a website with forums. All this other garbage is only going to build hopes and expectations into deep orbit for gamers that are hungry for something new. Inevitably, BioWare won't be able to deliver enough to make up for their own hype engine.

Yeah. And if they had only released a website and forum, people would be whining that there is nothing new to show.
Come on. This is just silly. There is no pleasing the crowd of gamers these days.
As for WesKhan...I'm not even going to enter the discussion about "true" gamers. I hate that discussion with a passion because elitism among gamers is poison which creates forum-wars like over at the DF Forums.
In closing, if you don#t want to get hyped up, then ignore what they release and just wait until the game actually launches and check then. No one forces you to watch the developement process. For those of us who take enough interest in the concept and the ideas of the game,, well, we would like to have updates.
As I said...no pleasing the crowds of today.

I thought you would reply with something about "elitism". I knew I should have completed what I was going to say. The thing is that "true" MMO gamers don't want more single player aspects in MMOs, they want a sandbox. Casual gamers want something easier and more single-player like, and this is who they are probably going to aim for (like all the other idiot developers). The problem here is that it is completely USELESS to try and get a casual gamer crowd, as they will almost always be pleased with their WoW. They don't want a new MMO because they don't care about them enough to go looking for one. They're "casuals". Besides, there's no way in hell Bioware is going to create a casual enough game to match that of WoW.
Creating an MMO for casual gamers today is suicide. Their game is going to be destroyed. They need to focus on "true" gamers. This is what I mean, not elitism.

Alright. I take back the elitism statement, though you probably know where I was coming from, particularly on these forums.
I'll have to disagree with you though. This game has a better chance than most to succeed where many others failed. First, the IP. Yes, Star Wars will attract a lot of people...and not all of them "true" gamers.
Second, the basic setting in the IP. WoW is fantasy and I don#t know about you, but me personally, I am sick and tired of Fantasy games. The only Sci-i game currently out there is EVE, which is nothing for the casual gamer to be honest. CoX might come close, but that is super-heroes, not really sci-fi. So, their setting is different and caters to a different type of player.
Third, their stories. Yes, I said it, their stories. BioWare is known for storytelling and a lot of people will play this because of that (depending on how the development continues obviously). If they made it a hard-core sandbox games, the people who loved KOTOR but generally dislike MMO's would be even more put off. This way, they might attract those people, too.
All of these reasons do not guarantee that TOR will be a success. I don#t know if it will be. That depends on too many things that are currently unknown. Does it have the chance to succeed? Yes, I'm pretty sure it does.
And for the "true" gamers, there are games like Earthrise, Darkfall, Mortal Online and Fallen Earth in production. So I don't see anything to worry about for anyone right now.

"Live in the Star Wars universe."
Yeah, right. They have a really, really, really narrow view of what the word "live" means. Apparently to them it means fighting, fighting and more fighting.
"Something to do no matter your playstyle."
Hardly. They'd get more respect if they would just say that the game is for combat oriented players and if we give any attention to the social gameplay features (housing, crafting, non-combat related skills/abilities) it'll be at a bare minimum.
With the release of this video they have had yet another chance to talk about any of those features, and they haven't. So, in my opinion this is shaping up to be just another level grind from one quest hub to the next with A,B,C and D choices on the dialogue list (as opposed to the 1-2 choices in most games) and with alot more dialogue than other games.
Add that to the micro-transaction news the other day and I am only here now to watch this train wreck.
"Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You're alright..."

Good lord, could that video be anymore Jedi centric?
Ah well, with the art style, the announcement of microtransactions, and the general direction the game seemed to be going, I can't say I'm very excited about this.
Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.
So,everybody is a fucking Jedi from the get go?
If it's anything like pre cu/nge SWG,i may give it a shot. So far, i am not impressed.
