My beta experience.

Thought I would put my opinion out there on my 2 months in beta. I won a beta account on this site through a contest a loong time ago.

Anyways,

Im not going to get into specifics and try to keep this short.

The game sucks.

The game is buggy. Most bugs that are reported are fixed. Except the major ones. And there are so many to report that I dont see them fixing 20% of them before the game goes live.

The game lags. Most zones are unplayable. Even today.

Half of the promised content is not even finished yet, 1 week from release. Trust me.

The content they did add is sort of "watered" down content that you all are expecting. For example the factional system. They say there is a faction system. You might be expecting to be able to work your way through a particular faction. There is nothing of the sort. It is eye candy and doing missions does not give you any factional gain etc.

Graphics are nice.

Male mage class avatars are girly g a y men who run around like a fairy. The spell animations are very FEMININE. If your a guy and have normal genetic background, dont play a mage.

Combat is no different or special from any other game. It is target, click on spell, click on another spell. You dont have to move. You just click buttons. The anti kill stealer "locked" combat is something a little new, but doesnt make combat anything really special. Not enough substance. GUARANTEE you will be dissapointed with heroic oppurtunities, I was.

Alot of missions. Should always be able to find a mission. Finding the NPC again after you complete a mission is very aggravating. No map system makes this game like a headless chicken run.

MAP SUCKS. 90% of the zones dont have maps. And it is very crude and worthless. 80% of the beta community wanted a fog of war type map, and to show NPC locations etc. We got nothing.

Player housing is just an instanced zone. Sort of like if you had your own little server for your house.

Every zone is like a new server. Diminish'es the MMO experience when you know that only 50 people or so are in the world you are in. They should of called this Everquest Shard 2.

Nothing more to say. I could go on for awhile. Game is below my ideal.

If you have any questions post them. I know everything there is about the game. I am not biased, im willing to give you an honest opinion without telling you it sucks. So if you have any questions, dont be shy.

You sure you played the game today?

Most zones haven't been laggy for about a month now. Antonica and Commonlands were laggy up until today, but now they are instanced, and from what I have seen, they aren't laggy at all.

And what promised content is in the game?

Uhh... it's cause everything you're saying that "Sucks" about EQ2's beta is stuff that usually gets fixed when the game is released in stores.

Very poor arguments and comments, your thread means nothing to me, EQ2 is still on my buying list.

Factional system? Care to be more specific on what sucks about it. Or you simply can't because you haven't even played the beta and you're a WoW fanboy trying to put EQ2 down?

Anyway, I don't believe this guy for one minute. I have an (almost) completely different view of the game and am certainly going to go pick it up on the 9th.

Oh yeah, considering you are going to be in Freeport or Qeynos a LOT during the game, since they are the two main cities, I would recommend that you maybe try to learn where stuff is instead of saying "oh, there's too many npc's...I can't remember...this game sucks".

EDIT: r1tual doesn't appear to be a WoW fanboi and he thinks that game sucks too. Maybe he just doesn't like fantasy mmo's?

overall... the preview sucked...

it feels very biased for starters... i have a feeling you'll see this guy in WoW sometime soon...

a few of the things you mentioned (such as the lag) have been fixed recently...

most of the issues you seem to have, feel very "picked out" almost like you were digging for something wrong to find... once again making this preview feel very biased...

you complain about stuff that shoudlnt even be complained about... "Every zone is like a new server"?... how many MMORPG's have you played?... it's called "zoning" and is done in practically 90% of the games out there... not to mention EQ2 uses instancing and trying to do that with seamless zoning is... well, it just doesnt happen...

anyways, i give this preview a 1 out of 10... just feels too biased, like you already had it out for the game in the 1st place...

I've also played the EQ2 beta and I don't think it's a very good game. It really can't keep me entertained and interesting. I also think they have a lot of things that need to be fixed, and sure the game's still beta, but supposedly it's coming out Nov. 8, that's not very long at all, there's no way they can fix everything by then, so what have they done? They've turned the first month of release into the games open beta, only you have to pay to beta test their game for them. Hope all your EQ2 fanboys enjoy paying to beta test EQ2, and even after that the game still won't be that great, cause it's made by SOE.

Because people that aren't fanboi's realize that both games will be good, but are for people who are looking for different things in their game.

What I learned from all these posts is that if anyone has ANYTHING bad to say about EQ2, they're going to get flamed big time. I'm not just reffering to this thread either. Anytime someone has something bad to say about the game they get bashed. You can call people fanbois all you want but when you're unwilling to accept that the game has flaws, you my friend are the fanboi. And I'm not saying EQ2 is going to be bad game, I just think it's stupid that all crtitisim is instantly disregarded.

Yes, but you also have to ask yourself why are the "disgusted beta testers" posting their "experiences" anyhow? Most of us have already decided to give the game a shot for ourselves and see what we think. A poorly stated persuasion to not play the game by some disgruntled beta tester does nothing but make the poster look foolish...

9/10 people i talk to say this game sucks and i take there word for. If so many people are putting it down that have played the game why do you still call them fanboys?

I am playing WoW Beta and i have access to and EQ2 beta but i chose not to waste 30 hours of my time because i was told that EQ2 sucked horribly.

I guess it's all preference. I really wanted to try EQ2 and i was going to but it's discouraging when so many people dislike it.

Not ALL criticism of the game is disregarded. Coldmeat has posted plenty of times about things that he has been upset with. People learn to listen to him. When someone just comes in this forum that hasn't really been active and has a quote that "WoW is t3h greatest thing evar!!!!!" it is hard to take them seriously.

Thats why i said it wasn't just this thread. I hear quite a few people who actually have accounts saying the game just isn't ready. I'm not going to say it is or isn't beacuse I've never played it. I'm just saying that everywhere I look people are being bashed for even constructive crtisism of EQ2. It always just turns into "Oh, he's a WoW fanboy."

J/k....i really WoW and i plan on purchasing it. I can't bash EQ2 casue i don't know what it is like. But all i can tell you is a lot of people are curretnly disappointed.

The two main issues that people had with the game have been answered recently by SOE. The lag issue has been greatly improved, and as of yesterday, the larger outdoor areas that were the worst have started being instanced with around 300 people in them to prevent lag. Character differentiation is the other issue and they are slowly releasing info about what will make the players different from one another. Tonight they are supposed to be releasing some of the "real" spells for the classes. Here's hoping they don't suck.

okay 1st let me start off by saying that ANYBODY who reads my posts knows that when it comes to the whole EQ2 vs. WoW thing and all that crap, im not on either side... infact, im personally planning on buying both games when i get my new computer... both games will be great, that's already a given... calling me a fanboi? LOL, good stuff

anyways... it's not that anybody who says anything bad about EQ2 will get flamed... when people have honest issues with the game, i listen to them and take them just like the rest... but this is blatently a biased oppinion... over the past few months it's almost become a daily ritual for the WoW fanboys to go over to the EQ2 forums and flame random aspects of the game in a blind fanboy fit of lies and ill-informed flames... im not saying it never happens the other way around, but not NEARLY as often... WoW fanboys are BY FAR the worst kind i've ever seen...

im willing to accept all flaw's that both games may have, as long as their actually flaw's, and not just fanboy rantings... THIS thread is a perfect example... i cant believe you cant see how insanely biased this thread is... that is unless of course you're biased yourself?...

criticism is a good thing... fanboy rantings arent...

It's his opinion and he gave reasons for it being poor in his eyes, you don't have to attack it, many people share the same ideas as him that EQ2 is not gonna be a very good game at all.

Sure many people share the same ideas as him that EQ2 is not going to be good. And most have them have already started a thread in this forum. If you're going to flame the game, maybe consider coming up with something not mentioned previously that might persuade people into not wasting $50. But lag, bugs, and "zones being too big" are not, in my opinion, valid arguments.

I tried the WoW beta and to be frank, I wasn't all that impressed. The graphics were ok but there are races that look like "poly pockets" and the graphics in my opnion could stand a bit more attention. Am I bias ? possibly but WoW is not the best thing since slice bread that everyone is making it out to be.

Oh yeah - the supposed loot system in WoW - bites monkey turds... Great idea, with the system to bad it only works when it feels like it. WoW has it's share of bugs - just ask the bears who are stuck in the hills. None the less, EQ2 is something I'm going to try for sure. All I'm worried about is having to upgrade my system to play it.. We'll see..
