Spellborn is DoA....literally

Well Spellborn's EU servers went down yesterday over 24 hours ago. There seems to be an authentication error or you can log on and create new characters but cannot log into the game.

Sure, I know its Christmas and its a small dev team but there are paying customers. The game has been down and there is nothing. No post by any dev explaining anything.

Also, funny enough there is only 1 small post about it in the players forum with only a few replies. Now if this was WoW or WAR or AoC or any other mmo there would be a deafening uproar. But for TCoS nobody seems to care. Not the devs nor the players.

Its sad too because from the small amount of time I got to play, it really did seem like a good game. Better than alot out now. But there are hardly any players on any of the EU servers. I have seen crappy 2d Asian mmos launch with many more players than this. (To give you some indication from what I saw in the day or two I was playing Tabula Rasa had 10 times the number of players right before they pulled the plug. I dont think I saw more than 5 people max in the starter area at a time. Mostly just 1 or 2 or 0!).

I dont understand why, because this game truly seems to be good, but this game will be gone in less than 6 months unless the game devs pull their heads out of their arses and start giving a damn.

Communication from the Spellborn developers is horrible and always has been. I have yet to see one of them post on this forum and MMORPG.com is an important site.

I did not even know he game had launched. I used to be in the very early beta, but lost interest.

This game needs some marketing if it has launched as I havent heard anything about it

LOL, Mirage posts here once in a while and like ALL other developpers they focuss on their own forums and not external ones... (read as VERY COMMERCIAL ONES like this one).

Spellborn servers were down for 2 hours max. I've played the game whole day and had no problem what so ever... so please stop trolling a game you haven't played.

  • ChainmailChainmail Member Posts: 173

Hmmm, I dont know if you are referring to me, but I am not trolling.

I was able to play for 2 days and then I got kicked out of game yesterday. Since then I have not been able to get back in. I either get an authentication error. Or I can log in, and get to character screen, and can even create new characters. But when I click to enter and play I get an error saying it cannot connect to the Spellborn network.

Now, I will admit that I do live in Asia. So, it may very well be they implemented and IP ban for us yesterday. But, it is strange that I a) got kicked from the game and b) I can still create characters and save them and c) why would they IP ban Asia? It is not part of the Acclaim territory and d) if they did finally IP ban Asia, why would they do it on Christmas Day ? This has really left a bad taste in my mouth about the competency of the dev team. Its amazing that they created and coded this seemingly great game, but cannot manage it properly.

Anyways, I do want to say that the 2 days I played the game, it was very good. It is definitely a game anyone who plays mmos should check out. I think it could be a big hit, if the devs market it properly and stop crippling it with the stupid IP bans.

I mean, from my understanding, they are IP banning the UK portugal and I think Spain from the rest of the EU because Acclaim has those territories. So they are going to force those countries to basically play on American servers. Heads up! The last time I looked at the world map, these countries are part of the EU and not NA. This is very retarded imo and I dont know why they would ever agree to this.

Well, heres to hoping that TCoS somehow outlives the devs stupidity and lives up to the potential it seems to have. I hope they do succeed in spite of themselves and get tons of subs because I really want to play!

Well this story gets even stranger yet. Since arrowotwood posted he has been playing I have since gone back and tried to create and log into all the servers.

I can get into the German pve and pvp and the French pvp servers.

I cannot get into the International pvp or pve or the French pve servers.

If the reason I cannot log into the international servers where my characters are is because they all of a sudden decided to IP ban Asia, then why did they only do the ban on half the servers?

    I am baffled.

I just logged onto the PvE International server with no problem. I am in America. There is no IP ban on the game servers.

OP, I don't know what happened to your system, but its not the game. Where are you playing from?

  • WarcriminalWarcriminal Member Posts: 244

but have the game launched officially?

On this site it is still listed as "in Development"

It really is beyond me how someone can say that the game is DoA when it hasn't been released in the UK or the US. There is where you are going to get the majority of your subscribers from.

I started playing literally 2 hours ago and expected to see no one, but was pleasantly surprised as I've seen plenty of people running around.

Starterareas: Hawksmouth and Audenvault have quite a healthy number of people running around but in later zones you're happy to see anyone now. :(

I think it's natural that closer to a games release date the starter areas will be more populated than higher-level areas. Over time this will switch around.

Well after last night's maintenance the servers started working again. I am now able to get into the game on the international servers. But for approximately 36 hours the game was down for some people and not others apparently only on 3 of the 6 servers. I asked around in game and some people (of the about 6 or so I saw on lol) said yes they were affectefd while others said they were not. Either way, there was never a peep mentioned by the games devs.

As for you guys saying game not launched yet in UK or NA; where did I say that? I specifically said the EU servers where the game is launched. And from what I have seen on the international pve server, it is pretty much dead. However, I will say that today there were more players on. Maybe its just getting off to a very slow start. I have also admitted that I live in Asia and my hours of playing are probably a bit off the peek hours. But I am on vacation and so playing off and on all day long since there is nothing else to do.

I really hope that when it does finally launch in the English speaking countries, it gets a ton more players. But if the EU servers are any indication of whats to come, I am saying this game will be either 1) made f2p or b) shut down within 6 months.

Now I dont want to see this happen. I think the game is really good and I want to see many players in game. However, unless the devs start making a much, much bigger effort to market this game, it will be in the bargain bin before springtime comes.

Hell if you go to the NA publisher Acclaims TCoS website, it looks like they spent all of about 30 minutes on it. A basic page with no information other than a few links to the forum and registration. Doesnt appear they are about to put any money or effort into marketing the game either. From what I know of Acclaim my guess is that they are hoping the game fails as a P2P model so they can set up their overpriced cash shop and slap in-your-face in game ads into the game. Tell me that wont be a game killer?

These are the cold hard facts, whether fanboys want to admit it or not.

And yes anyone can play the TCoS EU servers with a little intelligence. There is NO IP block on the game itself. The IP block is on the registration website only. This is easily gotten around in about 30 seconds using a proxy.

Threat? Where did I threaten anyone?

And can you explain to me what an email spammers nick looks like? This coming from a guy with a name of jagorhigh with a total of 5 posts lol.

Anybody knows that DoA in the context in which I have placed it means Dead on Arrival. Everyone else seemed to understand it just fine.

I stated I live in Asia. Why does it matter where? For the purposes of this post, Asia is sufficient. Didn't know I had to give out specific personal information to make a post.

I suggest you dont try to make any more posts attacking someone. You're not very good at it.

What part of this aren't you grasping? There simply isn't enough players in the countries which it has been launched for the game to be teeming with people. The UK and US are where the large majority of players will be. When the game does launch there, those servers should be significantly busier.

I know a good few people who are actually playing as a result of signing up via a proxy - me included.

People keep including the UK in with "most of the subscribers".  UK is small potatoes, the majority share of the EU subs in mmos tend to come from the regions where it's already been released, from what I've seen.

As for the USA subs, well, we DO have Acclaim...so who knows how that'll work out.  Pretty rough so far.  Yes, I know I can play right now, and how to set it up, but I have no interest in playing on servers quite that far away.

Let's face it, the "launch" of the game is a farce.  They can't even get this site to recognize that the game isn't "in development" any more than any other live mmo is in development.  There's been nothing but problems for Acclaims "beta", which should have been done during the real beta tbh, and the staggered launch date isn't working out.

The "UK" part doesn't only consist of the UK. My country, South Africa, for example, is included in the UK along with a number of other countries. So the fact that it hasn't been released in the UK is rather significant. Couple that with the fact that NA and UK fall under the same publisher and the reason for the apparent empty servers is quite obvious.

Also, for a game recently launched it does have quite a number of servers.

I dont know how many people will play from UK ...but I do agree that the launch so far has been fubared.

Acclaim is really screwing this game over....not even being in beta yet

And this is truely a shame because this game is really good coming from a indie company

This games combat can truely be considered revolutionary IMHO

auto attack is gone.....the massive amount of icons from skills on your ui is gone

what ya have instead is a revolving skill deck with up too 6 skills per swing

every skill turns the dial to the next 6 you have loaded and so on

w and s moves toon foward and back

    a and d strafes

holding left mouse button turns toon

    hitting right mouse attacks

scroll wheel moves you thru your 6 skills per attack...well ya start with 3 per attack but eventually get 6

all this combined with opening skills and finishers (later in career) makes for some nice strafe/dodge/positioning fighting....the packs of mobs are even using this on you. the casters will continue to back away from fight and range you...and the archers try too kite ya as well.......some of this causes the mobs to bug out sometimes, but the game is new and it rarly happens.

IMHO this game is very good...but if know one shows up too find out...i guess thats a shame

The UK and US subscriptions won't make situation on EU servers better, quite the opposite, people who proxy now probably will leave.

Also, Acclaim is one month behind the promised schedule already and it does not look like they will be launching their beta any time soon. So if it will ever get released there, it probably will not be January as promised, but rather March or something like that.

On other hand, low pop on EU servers can make some of their investors to pull back and cut the money for development team. For example publishers like Frogster had their people working with TCoS Devs (when they had that network code issue) and if they do not like the money from EU servers (they don't care about NA, since it is not their income) they can cancel contracts with Devs and that can wreck whole game.

Yeah dude, quit whining.  Don't claim a game is dead, cause you can't connect to the server. ^-This guy knows what I'm talking about.

Guys you are missing the point of the post. The servers being down wasn't the only reason why he claimed it was 'dead on arrival' (DoA for those haven't pick that up yet o_O)

There is no word from the developers, none said anything about the servers being down. There was no advertising at ALL, some never even knew this game launched. Most servers are already dead.

Those were his reasons, they are pretty good ones, personally I don't agree with his prediction, but some are getting the wrong message

  • LydonLydon Member UncommonPosts: 2,938

Do you read the forums? Simply browsing through them I see dev posts relating to down time etc, so I'm not sure what the problem is there.
