Yup you will also crash if you alt tab and have Xfire running in the background.

Majority of players turn off Xfire while playing AoC as it can cause you only problems.

Not only the alt-tab but changing some graphic settings such as resolution can cause it to crash out as well.  I'm not sure why Xfire effects that but once I turn it off I have no problems.

It appears as if  those problems must have just started about a month after the game released . At release AoC was #4 on the XFire list with over 80,000 XFire hours logged on average those first couple of weeks but it has went down steadily ever since and is now down in the 3K - 4K range and is at #57 on the overall list. Still even as of yesterday there were 970 people who were still using XFire while playing AoC.

I guess they must have patched in something incompatible with XFire after the first month.Everyone here swears the servers are still packed to the brim and population is just booming.

The most complains AoC had in early beginning was CTD's ( crash to desktop ). More and more players were suggestion disabling XFire helped them a lot and as well some antivirus programs in the background.
Did a lot of people quit due CTD's yup they did .. did a lot of people turn of Xfire while playing yup they did.

Are there still problems with AoC and Xfire -> yup
Does everyone turn off Xfire while playing AoC -> nop
Does everyone have exactly the same problem with XFire and AoC -> nop

Well whoever swears that servers are packed must be a blind fanboi, the fact it AoC mostlikely lost over 80% of initial subscribers.
Maybe there is 1 or 2 servers that are packed and few with healthy population but as well there is bunch of ghost ones.

Once server merges will happen we will know where AoC stands, its hard to tell now when you have so many servers for 1m population and AoC could have from 50K to 200K subscribers.
Even if they have 200K a lot of servers will be ghost towns with only few people playing.

    We will see.

They arent friends right now but if some miracle happens and the numbers start going up than xfire will be a great friend......right?

988 users for a saturday is the lowest ive ever seen. Server merges better happen quick!

X-Fire sucks so bad anyways, We all use Ventrilo in AoC. Can't have a program stealing to much of my precious 4 gig memory there.

So no, AoCs X-fire statistic won't do much of anything as long as there are both stability issues and the fact that X-Fire uses so much resources.

AoC is not doing great but it is not doing so bad compared to games like WAR as you could believe with the X-fire statistic. But that depends if we talk US or EU, it does do very bad in US, but the EU servers are not so bad, there it is the WAR servers that is empty instead. I wonder why? Usually Americans and Europeans don't differ so much in taste.

    I was being facetious

    1. Treating serious issues with deliberately inappropriate humor; flippant.

    2. Pleasantly humorous, jocular.

BTW Warhammer, EvE , LoTRO and even AoC seem to have found their level on XFire. It's just that AoC's is well below the other games I mentioned. Still on the bright side it is above EQII, SWG and Vanguard so things could be worse.

LOL...lets see. AoC is ranked 57th today with less than 1000 users (super low for the weekend). Warhammer is ranked 17th with 4,300 users. So according to you guys whom seem to think that AoC has 150k users, Warhammer must have close to a million. If Warhammers servers are empty than Im not sure what you would call the servers in AoC. Non-existant maybe?

How anyone who plays AoC can call War a failure and AoC a success is beyond me.

Could this be maybe intel, nvidia, xp problem?

I have an AMD, ATI video card, and Vista x64 and xfire runs with no problems at all. Only thing I can't seem to get xfire to do is view the live broadcast of people playing games. I can broadcast my own, but not view others.

Just curious what could be causing problems with AoC and xfire. I know in the past xfire hated eq2 and would not start with it on.

LOL...lets see, because WAR is the measure of an incredible MMO success? Ha Ha Ha... 1/2 year from now WAR would hardly have 100 k subscribers, and what can they do about it? Absolutely nothing becuase there is no potential to release. It's a failed WOW clone.

Xfire attracts a different kind of player. Most people that use xfire are young and hardcore gamers. AoC players tend to be less hardcore, some are brand new to the market, and are older. No matter what people try to say, xfire can't beused to predict perfect numbers, or even close.

Does WAR have more active subs than AoC has, as far as the US is concerned - Probably

Is WAR losing players in a similar fashion as AoC - Yes

Are both games still selling copies - yes

Will WAR grow into more of a game than it is - Only if they add more PvE content if not then you can see pop to continueually decline

Do both games attract the same kind of player - No. While many people bought both games, the ones that stayed found it to be a better game because of the titles and goal orrintated PvP (if you can call mini games that) while the people that left the game and have came back to AoC saw it as just a giant zerg fest mini game grind game.

Will AoC and WAR have similar pops in the next 3-4 months - I think so

    Agreed.

that still does not mitigate the fact that at release AoC was # 4 on Xfire users and even after the first month it was still in the top 10. Now it is almost #60

There seems  to be a general concensus among XFire users that anyone that installs and uses AoC is a fool of epic proportions.

Or maybe like i said at beginning AoC most likely lost 80% of subscribers -> I guess that had huge impact too :)

Compare different games on xfire and you will see that there is a tendency towards games that cater to the hardcore crowd.

EVE online is very popular on xfire, Second life is very unpopular. EVE has about a fraction of the ammount of players of Secondlife. Still it is tremendously more populare on xfire.

From this you can conlude that xfire players tend to like certain type of games, FPS and other hardcore games..

(BTW i know Secondlife isnt a "game", still it has "users")

At least in a 1/2 year from now War will still be around, LOL. If War is a "failed WoW clone" then what do you call AoC? AoC LOST 90% OF ITS PLAYER BASE IN THE FIRST 3 MONTHS. I cant wait for the day that Funcom shuts down because of the "Dark n Light" failure AoC is.

Could you too stop this flame WAR?

WAR lost quite bad with it's subs too but AoC didn't lose 90% in 3 months, we do have actual sub numbers from 1st of august ant it wasnt 85K ok. It was something around 60% and about the same as WAR lost in the same time.

Both are desent game so stop trolling eachother like that. And WAR do also have a chanse to die, EA is cutting a lot of staff now and they killed MMOs before that were actually doing OK. Let's hope both games will be around for long.

You don't have to be a genius, scientist, or a statistician to deduce something like Xfire attracts a different type of gamer.  Just look at xfire's users age range and look at AoC's player's age range. I'm sure xfire is skewed toward gamers between the ages of 16-24 while the majority of people who play AoC are 22+.

You know whats worse than someone who actually lives in their mom's basement? A person who makes fun of em. FYI, I'm not that type of loser.

You are doing it again. Will you never learn?

You are stating "facts" about Xfire and AoC.

"I'm sure xfire is skewed toward gamers between the ages of 16-24."

"majority of people who play AoC are 22+."

You are just pulling these "facts" out of your ass.

Look I can do it too:

I'm sure Xfire is skewered towards gamers who like pudding.

Majority of people who play AoC are eskimos!

    Yay, I made up facts!

Like I've said before.. we can argue all day about statistics and different demographics but the FACT is that Xfire HAS been right in the past regarding subscription numbers. It HAS worked with other MMO's and it WILL work with AoC. End of story.

Xfire is kinda counter to itself though.  Think about this

The average Xfire user is more 'hardcore' than the average gamer

Yet hardcore gamers KNOW not to run anything in the background while running a game.

IMHO..  Xfire is more of a mature, social tool.  It isn't for people who want to eek out every ounce of performance from their computer, instead it is for people who will take a performance hit in order to socialize.  Sounds like a more 'mature' theme to me.

Also, you can discount EVE from your comments.  EVE continually runs contests and hypes on Xfire.
