Hopefully Darkfall will offer a fun pvp setting.
Edit: Oh, and I find it hilarous that anyone voted for WoW.
    And to respond to:
AC's pvp was awesome back in the day and no MMO to date has been able to duplicate it. You could dodge spells! That was awesome!

You will be able to dodge spells, arrows, and melee in Darkfall.

lol you can do all that in the game we call WoW

Dodging in WoW is based on stats. He's saying in Darkfall you can dodge things like you would in an FPS game a.k.a. having skill.

Wow has the most FPS-like game that still requires gear, a good spec and skill.  I'm not fully happy with it but it's the best out there that I have played.

And yes, I've had my most fun playing my first few online games which was long before WoW existed.  But they weren't better games in any way; they were just my first.

Guild Wars because it is not button mashing and it requires some strategy to win.

WoW requires gear, unfortunately anyone can get gear..it doesn't require skill, and because of the armoury and other things, the best build os one you copied and pasted.

Ok so if everyone has the same build and the same gear in Wow (not at all true but let's run with that notion)... some people will win (have won) more often than most others.  That's skill.  And there are arena teams that are much better than others, even with inferior gear and/or class combos .

Have you ever run a BG where one team is on vent and coordinating and the other isn't?  Even if the team without coordination has better gear/builds/levels/whatever they are going to lose badly most of the time (not always, I've been on premade killer teams before, but almost always).  That proves that real time player decisions in pvp matter.  Where choices can make a difference, skill wins.  Skill is a factor in PvP.

That's not to say that there aren't tons of cheap ways to lose, but that's true for any game where so many variables like numbers, attention spans, etc.. are up in the air.

This, without DAOC in there and even Shadowbane the poll isn t a good indication of pvp games. Scratch WOW and add these 2.

I voted other, I cannot believe you don't have Dark Age of Camelot on there.  Yeah it's an older game and the population has tanked since WAR came out.  No other game has even come remotely close to the fun and action of the PvP I had while playing it. I would rate  it's PvP a 100/100 and WAR in far distant second with like a 30/100. All other games that I've played are like 10/100 or under.  I don't think developers take PvP too seriously when designing thier games.  It always seems that the game is designed around PvE then PvP is added at a later date just before beta.  In DAoC you played the game for the PvP, that was the whole point in playing.  Well that, and it was a very good setting to roleplay

  • ZSlayaZSlaya Member Posts: 30

    lol...

this is what IS the best pvp game not what WAS the best

UO and DAoC have a much smaller population, and UO sucks now.

    AoC is terrible

LotRO, EQ, and EQ2 are all heavy pve games without very good pvp

the only games on this poll that even come close to best pvp are WAR, WoW, and GW

I think we really need to start distinguishing between RvR games and PvP games. But what-ev,

that is probably the dumbest thing i have ever heard

WAR was MADE for pvp, and the pve was there for people who like to pve, but too bad for them WAR pve sucks.

i voted WoW because it actually does require skill, not just gear to win. For example, you could do what everyone else does if you are a mage, and make a PoM pyro build or go almost full in one of the trees. Or you could come up with your own build, like a arcane/fire/frost hybrid build that gives you +20% crit with your spells if you use it right, and PoM for instant pyroblasts.

here is a link to that mage build:

i really didnt like GW very much, movement felt kind of weird and i could hit the level cap with a PvE toon in 2 days...and everyone has near identical gear and you have to earn abilities through pvp...their version of attributes was pretty retarded too...swordfighting is a skill, not an attribute -_-

WAR has (dont know if they fixed it) serious population issues and the major end game pvp always crashes the servers, and im pretty sure only one capitol city has been taken since the game came out.

So a mage wearing all grey items could take down another mage with full arena epic gear?

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

I absolutely agree. The people that made those posts have obviously never played WAR and haven't followed it whatsoever. If you go into WAR thinking its a PVE game you will be sorely disappointed and will end up quitting. There is only one end game PVE dungeon in the game and it was only thrown in to say they have PVE endgame content. The majority of the game's content revolves around PvP/RvR (Keep/City Sieges, Scenarios, Open World PvP). You PvP to level up and are thrown into it from level 1. In fact the reason I quit was lack of PVE content.

Its EVE Online hands down. There are real consequences to PVP in this game above all others.  Others are rez and recycle.  If Darkfall says and does what it claims this one might get the best pvp game next year...lets see if it actually releases 1st !!!!

Played : WOW, LOTRO, COH/COV, EQ2, SWG, and WAR.
    Playing EVE Online and AOC.
    Wtg for SW:TOR and WOD

Vendetta Online; An open PVP game where a fight is determined 100% by player skill.

Dueling, Piracy, anti-piracy, FFA, and "Border Skirmish" battles, all twitch-based.

The game really needs more exposure. MMORPG.com has it tucked in a corner where no one can find it, while they plaster EVE and AoC logos everywhere.

It's a damn shame so few people know about VO...especially those looking for a hard-core PVP game.

Why is there a best PvP poll without DAoC up there?  That doesn't even make sense.  This poll instantly fails because it doesn't have it.    Other -> DAoC is my vote.

<< So a mage wearing all grey items could take down another mage with full arena epic gear? >>

In what part of the post that you're replying to does anyone say gear doesn't matter?   There have been PvP vids of naked PCs owning others in WoW but I haven't seen any new ones of those lately...

Of course skill counts (btw a premade vs a non premade isnt skill, its coordination), but skill matters a looooooooot less in WoW than other games. You can accomplish anything in WoW but an 1800+ arena rating as a keyboard turner who doesnt even know how to do skill rotations.

I wouldnt be suprise if your end game pvp experience is limited to WoW only...I've never met a game that was less skill dependant.
