Regardless... how well LoTRO is or isn't doing has nothing to do with AoC.
Actually, LOTRO was not the only game mentioned, but you seem to have made this an LOTRO argument. Tabula Rasa, Vanguard, Auto Assault, Asherons Call 2, DDO, and many others have all been mentioned here.
Why no argument for these titles being mentioned?
The fact remains, many "niche" titles continue to live to this day, and a mark down to 9.99 does not equal death .
Of course, a mark down to .96 cents DOES equal death (Tabula Rasa hit that price point on Amazon a month before the closure announcement)

We are staying on topic, so please try not to derail the thread...

    Thanks

Yes, let's stick to the point that the OP used some obscure website that nobody ever heard of to point to a top 20 showing for AOC when every other mainstream site hasn't showed AOC in the top 100 since May.

Amazon currently has it as the #1642 best-selling video game last week  :)

Play.com services UK / France / Germany amongst other countries in Europe. Before I moved to Canada I ordered all my games from there. It has been around 10 yrs. No doubt N.A friends have not heard of the site just like I never heard of Target, best buy, future shop, circuit city etc etc before moving here. You also have to get clued up that individual countries have their extension at the end of Amazon. Most of the people I played with in European guilds brought from play.com too as they offer free shipping.

    "Amazon.co.uk" shows:

Amazon.co.uk Sales Rank: 942 in PC & Video Games (See Bestsellers in PC & Video Games)

Popular in this category: #15 in PC & Video Games > PC & Macintosh > Games > Role Playing

    In Germany:

Amazon.de Verkaufsrang: #1.598 in Games (Die Bestseller Games)

    Beliebt in diesen Kategorien:

    #20 in Games > Computerspiele > Adventures & Rollenspiele > Online Rollenspiele > Spiele

    #66 in Games > Computerspiele > Adventures & Rollenspiele > Rollenspiele

    In France:

Classement parmi les ventes Amazon.fr : 99.384 en Livres (Voir les Meilleures Ventes dans la rubrique Livres)

Play.com is no obscurity, just because you don't know nothing about it doesn't make it obscure.

    From this time last year:

The strong figures confirm industry predictions of a bumper online Christmas. IMRG, the online retailers' association, estimates that online sales over December could hit around £7bn. Some £84m was spent online on Christmas Day alone, the IMRG said. Play.com is a rare survivor of the dotcom boom, having been founded in 1998. The privately-owned company is now the second largest site in the UK after Amazon.co.uk, owned by US giant Amazon.com.

Number 2 website behind Amazon.co.uk is no obscurity, ranked 15th in role play and 942 in games.

Amazon.co.uk has it for £7.99 as well a move dictated by play.com dropping the price for holiday sale :)

You notice something odd about where AOC is listed?   > games> adventure      Funny that Warhammer, WOW, LOTRO are all in a different catagory.   So if you go by the overall listing.. it is ranked #942 on amazon.com.uk and ranked #1600 on the USA Amazon.com  and is substantially behind both LOTRO and Warhammer, which are substantially behind even Vanilla WOW.

I"m not sure why AOC is the only MMORPG not listed with the rest of them.

Yeah.. pretty incredible that Wrath isn't even listed on that page.  Obviously AOC sold way more than 4M copies, since that is what Wrath sold.   And wow... the AOC collector's edition also is listed on that site as being more popular than Wrath.

You are throwing out stuff and making it sound like it's a sales chart, when in fact it is just the retailer's page to get rid of excess inventory.

If anyone contemplates on buy the game, get over there now, it's only 7.99 pound while it lasts. Certainly better priced than 39.95 $ in most other stores.

It's a budget release, and at that price people will give the 30 days a whirl, but I don't think it will make much difference in the long haul.

lets see 7.99 in British poundssterling is  $11.58 USD. Hmm big time bargain basement for a game released 6 months ago.  Too bad Game SDtop still  sells it for 40 bucks. Seems to be ranked Just above PoBS and just below  Everquest seeds of destruction expansion here in N America

Is this unusual? Because after 6 months LOTRO also marked their game down...and it was only 9.99...I wonder if any other games have done this?

All I know is this seems to work well for niche games at least.

oh yeah Avery you and OpenEdge are right Lotro sucks and AoC is the schitz. Someone better tell all those reviewers who give LoTRO and it's expansion excellent marks on all counts and think AoC is a huge pile of camel dung. Also better tell all thos eXfire users where a year and a half old game ( LoTRO) has nearly three times the users as AoC. I also guess that is why AoC started talking about server merges before it was out three months and LoTRO still has packed servers.

Best you guys can do is tout how your chosen game is being sold for a little over 10 bucks and won a rigged poll where you could spam votes.

ROFL - Wanna bet Funcom stock drops below 25 cents, BTW it closed at 30 cents a share today, and it's XFire hours drop below EQII and SWG's by June?

Hey but give me a call when Funcom at  get the loot tables optimized, and crafting fixed, and player housing, and a good guild system, and the PvP system working, and servers merged.......

Well for starters. Check out IGN.coms poll for Best game of the Year 2008. Do you even see LotRO nominated on that list. No? Well that should in the first place probably tell you that not all people have your opinions about LotRO. ve3d.ign.com/poll/results/237/2008-Game-of-the-Year. And no its not just one poll, AoC came in as #2 on several Game of the year votes now. Here is the poll for the best RPG of the year ve3d.ign.com/poll/234/Role-Playing-Game-of-the-Year. Close to 1800 votes for AoC alone.

The interesting thing about AoC fanboy's is how they always try to attack another game when their game is being criticized. Here LOTRO seems to be the target, even though it has nothing to do with AoC's poor numbers and has itself been much more successful than AoC can even dream about ever being.

That being said, it is amazing that AoC's price has fallen to under $12. Looks like AoC has set yet another record: Fastest drop in retail price, ever. Along with the most customers lost in the first 6 months award, AoC is really breaking some records!

Sorry I have no beef with Lotro, all I heard after was blah blah blah and didn't even acknowledge that lotro was selling for $10 6 months after release, you just dodged it and than went on a tirade foaming mouth?

You know you could log onto AoC and see where Turbine got their idea's for their new classes from - done properly?

Fact is play.com and now Amazon has a good price for AoC - why is that so upsetting for some?

These polls are pointless really. Less than 7k people voted in one of the ones you linked. If we are going off of awards and polls than WAR must have been the most well rounded game this year considering all it has earned:

Lotro was released in 2007, and yes it did actually win quite a few game of the year awards. Real ones such as the Golden Joystick Award, IGN Readers Choice, MMORPG.coms game of the year, VooDoo Extreme best MMORPG of 2007, #6 in Gamespys PC game of the year ( which was all PC games not just MMO's)

And you guys are trying to brag on some  polls where fanboys were posting on the "official forums" encouraging people to vote multiple times? Oh yeah those are some real bragging rights. I guess you guys gotta give this dead horse of a game CPR anyway you can.

Why this topic derailed into LOTRO ?
Why LOTRO was even mentioned its not like that game sold 800K-1m+ copies even by now.
More people left AoC that ever played LOTRO :)

Personally I think LOTRO is really nice PvE game and worth trying.
Iam a bit to much in PvP and never really got into PvM (mob play) ... i hoped I would and I even bought life time membership that I later sold to a friend.

As for AoC sales well topic like that are calling for trolling, lately at least new AoC players and returnees can post something postive about AoC gameplay and what they like without getting totally derailed by haters.

Truth to be told AoC is shaping out quite nicely since craig took it over but imo even now is still not ready for release. Well not for release as people would expected bug free polished and with lots and lots of content.

Lotro was the only game that really delivered at release and had quite flawless release. People that left Lotro was not due the bugs or real lacking of content they left cause they found it boring and that is completely personal preference.

Who cares if AoC is nr1 on Play.com or Amazon and I really hope AoC never becomes mainstream MMO as usually then things gets fucked up by devs ...

I wish AoC will pickup and get a decent marker share between 250K-500K and hopefully not more.

AoC have multiple of things going for it like real combat system with great pvp mechanics and superior graphics on the other hand it also have flaws like zoning and instancing.

Some people find zoning/instancing a game breaking and I had the same oppinion when i first tried beta, however now I dont really mind and got use to it.

I was also bothered by the fact that 48vs48 for siege is pure crap and all i can say now is thank god ... massive siege sounds great but then again when i remember Lineage 2 when we did 300 vs 600 well beside huge lag fast there was major problem with tactics as there was close to none due the numbers and the fact that zerg will win whatever you do.

I never said LOTRO sucks. What I DID say is after 6 months LOTRO ALSO marked their game down at ALL retailers, and then inundated their customers (those who were subscribed, and those who left) with email after email about this deal.

So far I know of 2 locations running special sales on AoC, so this is not across the board.

And as well, I am actually commending LOTRO for still being around this long even though it is a niche game with 200-300k players. It has held up as a PvE game, and many casual players love it.

Some players just want a more well rounded game with PvE and PvP and better visuals overall. I personally think AoC is a better game. But, LOTRO certainly has made it's mark, and if Turbine can keep going after 2 failures, surely Funcom can do the same.

I"m not sure why AOC is the only MMORPG not listed with the rest of them.

You notice that play.com won activision / blizz retailer of the year golden joystick (under 2008 winners link top left)?

What about play.com listing under golden joystick online game of the year popularity section putting AoC above vanilla wow + lotro?

Oh it is up to 17th rank now on play.com

From what I see - it is a good buy for the price, it is being brought again, people are still interested.

Before you fabricate things do a little research, out of all you claim AOC is a great game? is that why no one wants to even buy the new copies on ebay for 16 cents?

Hmmm... maybe it is like this, if you cant fcking afford to buy your game box new, you most likely don't have a PC? Buying games from e-bay is reserved for trailertrash.

Probably has more to do with supply and demand.

If they sold WoW or WAR that cheap, buyers would be lining up. For some reason people don't seem to want to buy AoC even when it's almost free.

Besides money, you also invest your time in MMORPGs and maybe people don't think AoC is worth their time?

Bah, I don't know how much the game costs in US/Canada or so. But looking at this.

    Shipping:

    To United States -- C $13.99

I would guess the trailor trash rather go into a store or something.

I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.

While I do have to agree that AoC has pretty graphics unless you count the newbie ganking and spawn point camping in AoC as well rounded PvP I think you are dead wrong on most of your other statements. Also until AoC gets it's loot tables together, more than one starting area, player housing of some sort,  better crafting, better armor variety and a number of other things that most MMO's have had for years now I could never consider it more than a class B or class C MMO.

At least Turbine has a .500 batting record with it's MMO's with AC and LoTRO both were commercial success. So far Funcom is batting around .000 since very few would say that either AO or AoC has exactly hit one out of the park. Although I would compare AoC with AC2 or DDO. All three had limited success at launch but failed to deliver in the long haul.

    I miss DAoC

It doesn't bother me. Now-a-days it's just the graphics people care about.

Maybe because people get burned on buying things on e-bay all the time.
