Unless you have a $6k gaming rig its going to be crap.... It will take them another 6-10 months after they release it on the Live servers for them to fix all the lag its going to create.
But at least now the box won't be lieing about have DX10 in it
From posts from the test forum if people can get there:
Windows Ultimate 64bit.
E6700
4GB DDR2
SATA2 RAID
ATI 4870 512mb
1680x1050
Using 8.12 Drivers
Everything Maxed out but with AA set to x4
30-45fps in Tortage.
45-55fps in Lacheish.
25-35fps in Kheshatta.
30-40fps in Conarch Village.
Many people are finding it excellent, there seems to be about a 30% decrease at the moment, but you have to realise it is still going through optimization and will be so for another month at least through many iterations. For me though before I left for vacation I was getting same FPS as I do in Crysis Wars DX10 32 ppl maps and AoC DX10 is still in testing.
I am away from home at the moment. I can provide some stats when I get back in a few days from 2 PC`s
E8400 at 3.8ghz
4gb RAM DDR2
2 x 8800 gt`s SLi
Vista 64 bit
and
QX9450 at 3.4ghz
8gb ram
4870x2
vista 64 bit
First machine cost $1200 new.
In the meantime some facts are Age of Conan is the first game to use CUDA - and it has more DX10 features than any other mmorpg out there. You do need a good PC to get decent FPS in dx10.
I also have the latest FRAPS 2.9 just released which adds support for Vista and DirectX 10 games. Quick go before I left with machine 1 and I was getting about 25-40FPS in most area`s
This 25-40 FPS is from just running around correct? If you engage in combat it will drop a great deal probably. Have they posted any difference if you engage in combat while in DX10?

dx10 is junk anyway. should be worried more about things to do in the game.

with $6k i could buy 4 computers thatll run AOC on high settings to play Dx 10.
beats the hell out of 1.
sooner this DX 10 drama gets out of the way the better, rather see bigger things going on for AOC, is pretty enough as is.

FPS in DX9 only takes a minor hit from combat when you have particles turned off, this should be the same in DX10; however, don't expect to remain at a constant 30fps when you have particles enabled since they are highly dettailed.
Games:
Currently playing:Nothing
Will play: Darkfall: Unholy Wars
Past games:
Guild Wars 2 - Xpiher Duminous
Xpiher's GW2
GW 1 - Xpiher Duminous
Darkfall - Xpiher Duminous (NA) retired
AoC - Xpiher (Tyranny) retired
Warhammer - Xpiher

I don't think anyone has done a siege yet with the latest DX10 patch on test. For me the hit with everything on max shadows, max AA, max particles and transparency etc etc every one full blast when fighting a mob is just when I am in a siege - same performance hit - from dx9 full on siege on medium is equivilent to dx10 regular mob fight everything on. Realistically though if you scale down shadows and particles you wont really notice difference on screen and maybe suffer a 5-10 FPS hit if you have dx10 on with most things on high compared to dx9. It is like running Fraps all the time. There has I think been 3 at least 2 patch upgrades so far each one improved performance on test server - will will prob see at least another 4-5 more patches each one improving optimization in the run up to live release.
Bear in mind to you can see 3.5 Kilometers draw distance in DX10
I suffered some heavy drops to, most noticeably in Kesh to around 10 FPS when packed. Again it is something the QA team is good at picking up on and getting it improved via the right ppl before live release. It is at the same stage as the last few patches where the was performance issues, each time those pulled through ok and the ppl not testing were none the wiser of the iterations leading up to it. Is to be expected at this point in cycle.
All is proceeding really well though!
Xibaluku and The Slaughterhouse Cellar (the level 80 content) are not in yet and will be I reckon next week when staff are back from seasonal break.
hey avery thanx for the much needed info. always good to count on you.
but first off is my system good overall? i have it on my sig below.
i have currently a 8800 GTS 640mb by LEADTEK. got it about a year ago. should i upgrade to a 280 GTX if i can afford it? or should i got SLI on something less expensive? what do you recommend?
i got a SLI board by ASUS M2N SLI DELUXE with 1405 BIOS. only issue i saw is i have to up the voltage on my memory to 2.0v for it not to crash with my 6400 X2(some memory controller issue with 4GB). let me know as I want to be ready when dx 10 comes out next month.
also I want to note I found an issue with 6400 x2 with VISTA 64Bit with a dump showing VISTA_SYSTEM_DRIVER_DEFAULT. AMD says its a VISTA issue with some 6400's and phenom.. so just warning people if you decide to get a phenom or similar. i may put it back in hopes the chip works and its just a VISTA issue. though i am debating about RMA'ing the chip. either way, throw me some links on some good cards both SLI,and single card solution. im getting paid soon so have around $500 to splurge on a new card.

Your 8800 GTS 640 should work, But ofcourse 280GTX will run much better.
If you can afford it, i would say buy a 280GTX

Directx 9 to Directx 10 graphics difference is so small I wouldn't worry about it.
True. And only a small percentage of players have good enough computers to take full advantage of DX10.
I really wish Funcom would forget DX10 and this year just concentrate on DX9 and missing endgame content.
When they are going to apply this patch?
With this patch, the server merges will be enabled too?

thanx for the info, i was hoping it would be good, i guess in DX10 it should run faster. hell i may just overclock my 8800 a bit, and put a pci slot fan under it just in case to increase the cooling. but yeah, either way i may possibly go with a 280GTX or possibly SLI 2 260 GTX's its $259 at newegg right now. either way i have to wait til monday to find out when im going to get paid.

Nobody knows. They are both coming "soon".
I predict server merges will come first because they are easier to do. DX10 is such a complex system that it might take many months for them to get it fully working. Funcom cannot afford to fail this time.
I doubt we will see either of them before next month.

Isn't DX10 on Testlive?

Yes DX10 is on testlive now. And it does make the game look a lot better if you have a comp that can crank up the graphics to max.Underwater is fantastic, and the colors are soo much crisper throughout the game Currently the difference in frame rate is very noticable but i think as they work out the kinks that will improve as well.

260gt 280s are better but at $220 260s win everyday.

I am going onto the test live server and MY god, when this patch comes its going to be fawking monsterous!! so far a single patch section is 2.03gb lol. that section alone is going to take me a hour+ to download lol. so prepare yourselves for a hugemongous patch come next month or so.

Just a heads up, there are problems when launching DX10 client at the moment. Can only play in windowed mode. No issues with DX9 though. There is a post on the test forums here : http://forums-beta.ageofconan.com/showthread.php?t=40853

One thing that worries me about DX10...
We all know Funcom is not that fast in giving us patches and new content (lol, understatement of the year). Sometime during the next 2 months we will probably see DX10 on live servers.
Now does this mean that it basically doubles the work they have to do? Do you have to code everything for BOTH clients?
I'm just worried DX10 is too much for Funcom. If Blizzard or some other respected company would do it then I wouldn't be so worried, but Funcom.. yep.
I know you haven't played in a long time, tis a shame. DX10 is fully implemented on the test server and has been since before Christmas. There are many posts and videos showing this on the official forums both test and live forums. Funcom has a trend over the last 4 patches which are they spent around a month on test server. With the holiday season falling right in the middle this time it might be a bit longer. To be honest when it is done it is done. What is left is optimization of the DX10 client. besides the patch is not just DX10 there are 3 dungeons and a host of other goodies.
Considering the last 3 patches were a success for many MANY people Patch 4 containing DX10 is going to be a given hit.
Actually I'm still playing. Well, not that much playing but I do have an active account. I play AoC every now and then when I'm bored with everything else or when I want to check out new patch. So don't worry, I am fully aware of the current situation.
Yes, I know DX10 test server. Everyone knows this. See my earlier post where I talk about "live server" and not test server?
I haven't tried it myself since I don't do test servers but what I've heard it's far from being ready for live. My estimate of 2 months is based of Funcom track record. Remember that pvp patch that was many months late and when it finally came, it was broken?
"When it is done it is done".
You know that would make an excellent slogan for Funcom.
