This is not a hate thread at all i love some of the ideas in DF and as a long time shadowbane player im exited about this game but the closer we get to the 22t the less the devs are releasing advertising,info,updated website. A few years back some of you might remember a game called Dark and Light big game good ideas great hype but same type of development no info bad website then one month for launch pre orders for downloadable versions came out then game launched only like 50% done few months company vanished and no refunds some even kept getting dinged for monthly after game was gone by click 2 buy i hope this is not the fate of DF but its starting to smell fishy of how such a great game is being kept in the dark SO close to release. cross my fingers and toes this will not happen agian.
the only thing you REALLY got on DF is the no info thing, there are 100% no preorders, and the game is as done as its going to get (2yrs of internal testing...).
Also, if they don't have an open beta (or didn't stress test properly by another means), then yes, by all means this will be the next DnL and we should go to the MO forums... BUT we have yet to see whether or not an OB will happen, they had one planned before the pushback (and it was apparantly only 1 week long at the most). Expect an OB thats at most 1 week and atleast 2days, most at forumfall think its going to be 2 days.
That or they just invite 9800 people into beta so they can fill up one server, which would be stress testing without letting in 250k+ people to fill up their servers and spend all their money

google the term 'memory leak' and then apply it to a server that has 50 people on it compared to one with 5000 people.

You don't have to have development experience. All you need is the examples of other games that have been released to use as a guide. This close to release, there should be far more information about the game out there right now.
For example: system specs. What are they? What are the minimum and recommended configurations for a player who wants to get into Darkfall on day one? Most MMO companies would have said something by now, since their game would be going gold and gearing up for release, and would likely be in open beta as well. System specs come from extensive beta testing with thousands of players that have a wide variety of rigs so the developers can see what works and what doesn't. I've looked online and there's nothing about Darkfall's specs anywhere except guesses from people. There's nothing definitive, which is a problem 17 days from release.
Stress tests can be done over a series of weekends, like WAR did at the end of their closed beta, but those require thousands of bodies on the servers, repeatedly bringing the game to its knees so the devs can see what their servers can handle and what they can't, and where any and all lag spots and memory leaks exist. Adding an extra 1k testers isn't going to cut it this close to Darkfall going live. it would have been fine in the early stages of closed beta, but less than three weeks out? Not so much.

It's from the betaleaks blog. Supposedly that's what an e-mail sent out to all the current CLOSED Beta testers said. It also told about the server going down, and why it was taking them awhile to get it back up and running again.
The e-mail itself and the intention seemed like it might be legit.

God...Remember the good ole days when people actually didn't know much about a game until it came out and they played it? When beta actually meant something other than "free time to play the game".

I guess I'd have to really care if there are leaks. I don't. I'm waiting until the 22 then I will decide where I stand. I'm a critic and that's it. I want the game to succeed because I've been looking for a game like this for a long time. However, I refuse to take Tasos seriously until there is cold hard proof.

the point is the video explains what DF is as a game, but it doesn't seem to silence the posters from posting UO comparisons, or comparisons to other games... why compare when it's all laid out for you... also it should lay to rest everyone freaking out if it's ready or not, or if it will fail.. if it was in a near finished state then, then it should be just about complete now, ... however... i will wait and see what people post when it is available on 22nd.

I thought that was proof that the game was finished (slideshow with a little ancient video, hah!) and I was just saying that the promo trailer would've been better proof (but still pretty weak proof. Sure, they have the engine up and running, and maybe the combat, but there's no player made videos that show the features are in and working. And, without an Open Beta or an NDA lift, it looks like that won't happen until after launch. I don't trust leaks all that much. Go into the game blind if you want, but I'm more than happy to stay on the sidelines a while for this one).

Also, if they don't have an open beta (or didn't stress test properly by another means), then yes, by all means this will be the next DnL and we should go to the MO forums... BUT we have yet to see whether or not an OB will happen, they had one planned before the pushback (and it was apparantly only 1 week long at the most). Expect an OB thats at most 1 week and atleast 2days, most at forumfall think its going to be 2 days.
That or they just invite 9800 people into beta so they can fill up one server, which would be stress testing without letting in 250k+ people to fill up their servers and spend all their money
This is the part that is unbelievable. They stated that the game will be feature complete and ready to launch on Jan 22nd, yet how can they know that if they haven't had a stress test yet? They only have a few hundred beta testers, most of which probably aren't playing at the same time.
There just is a lot of 'wishful thinking' going on about DF right now.

'beta invite' rumors are meaningless. It's January 5th.. 17days until launch. I just hope you guys all stick around and post on the 22nd.
You don't have to have development experience. All you need is the examples of other games that have been released to use as a guide. This close to release, there should be far more information about the game out there right now.
For example: system specs. What are they? What are the minimum and recommended configurations for a player who wants to get into Darkfall on day one? Most MMO companies would have said something by now, since their game would be going gold and gearing up for release, and would likely be in open beta as well. System specs come from extensive beta testing with thousands of players that have a wide variety of rigs so the developers can see what works and what doesn't. I've looked online and there's nothing about Darkfall's specs anywhere except guesses from people. There's nothing definitive, which is a problem 17 days from release.
Stress tests can be done over a series of weekends, like WAR did at the end of their closed beta, but those require thousands of bodies on the servers, repeatedly bringing the game to its knees so the devs can see what their servers can handle and what they can't, and where any and all lag spots and memory leaks exist. Adding an extra 1k testers isn't going to cut it this close to Darkfall going live. it would have been fine in the early stages of closed beta, but less than three weeks out? Not so much.

It's from the betaleaks blog. Supposedly that's what an e-mail sent out to all the current CLOSED Beta testers said. It also told about the server going down, and why it was taking them awhile to get it back up and running again.
The e-mail itself and the intention seemed like it might be legit.
The follow-through is what Aventurine has problems with.

I guess I'd have to really care if there are leaks. I don't. I'm waiting until the 22 then I will decide where I stand. I'm a critic and that's it. I want the game to succeed because I've been looking for a game like this for a long time. However, I refuse to take Tasos seriously until there is cold hard proof.

the point is the video explains what DF is as a game, but it doesn't seem to silence the posters from posting UO comparisons, or comparisons to other games... why compare when it's all laid out for you... also it should lay to rest everyone freaking out if it's ready or not, or if it will fail.. if it was in a near finished state then, then it should be just about complete now, ... however... i will wait and see what people post when it is available on 22nd.

I thought that was proof that the game was finished (slideshow with a little ancient video, hah!) and I was just saying that the promo trailer would've been better proof (but still pretty weak proof. Sure, they have the engine up and running, and maybe the combat, but there's no player made videos that show the features are in and working. And, without an Open Beta or an NDA lift, it looks like that won't happen until after launch. I don't trust leaks all that much. Go into the game blind if you want, but I'm more than happy to stay on the sidelines a while for this one).
