and this whole bot thing is blown out of proportion. Talk to someone who's playing the game, or read an unbiased article rather than someone who's whole objective seems to be to take down the game/company.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a blind fanboy oblivious to any problems the game has, in fact I want to know about them...its just Elliot does nothing but post blogs about problems with the game...where are the good points of it? He's still playing, that has to say something.
I have played the game, and I have a half dozen or so clannies who are playing it on a daily basis...We've all played L2 for years, and most of us quit L2 because of bots...the botting in Aion really isn't that bad. They are usually located in only a few areas, and if you don't goto those spots you'll never run into a bot...and the Abyss, where everything, inluding exp, is better..there are no bots at all...and I dont know about you, but a game based off of PvPvE RvR...thats where I'll be spending my time.
Its all blown out of proportion, and NCsoft is doing more against bots than ever before...just look at what NCsoft West has done with Lineage 2's bots lately.
It is true they have a bot issue, but what game does not these days, sadly.
And its true that they are in local areas that have passive mobs. And I have not seen any bots in the abyss, its just way to deadly for them to be there. I'm sure they have a few there but they just wind up being gank meat and free AP.
I hope it will be different in the NA/EU release, but I really dont think it will be unless the game comes in a DVD with a key code for each account, If you get banned the code is void and you can say bye bye to DVD.
Wishful thinking on my part.
All and all its still a fun game.

I don't know if you ever played FFXI, but for a couple years after NA release, they had crazy bots and goldsellers all over the joint. Every server. This went on for quite a while and people were wondering why Square Enix never did much about it. But the best was yet to come.
Then one day, almost like magic, there were thousands of bots and sellers just "poof". It was so sudden and permanent, that many of them were QQ all over the boards to no avail. It was huge news and all over the net. When I stopped playing, the gold problem was almost non existent as sellers learned not to spam and hit the main spots, but stuck to very less populated areas no one frequented. (You can never fully get rid of bots/sellers as we know) As they say on Sportscenter, "You can't stop them, you can only hope to contain them."
Ask anyone who played FFXI at NA release til now, and they'll tell you they put a huge dent in those guys. It can be done and I would bet NCsoft will look at what Square Enix did and copy it somewhat, if not improve on it. Possibly with the CD key as you say and other things.
And here I was thinking that this would be an okay game. If it stays like this, and I see no evidence that it won't, this will completely ruin the game for nearly everyone.

In any game where time+money makes the player, you'll have bots to sell accounts loaded with AP, money, ect and any game that is made in the east is swarmed with them for some reason.
They need to do it like WoW take out the massive grind factor and make all the good items soulbound.. that way it eliminates the need for a middleman (gold/item farmerS). The gold farming infestation can't really be eliminated thru bannings but it can be eliminated with the proper game design.

What? WoW is full to the gills with gold sellers. The most assuredly do not have the proper game design. Sorry.

He didnt mean WoW doesnt have them, he just meant that WoWs design like soulbound items and quest based leveling makes it harder for them to do what they do.
For instance because quest based a lot of players wouldnt use power levelers cuz they actualy want to read the quest texts for story.
I dont know how WoW isnt a well designed game when so many people are having fun playing it.
And blizzard gets them banned by the thousands every day. The game does a lot better job against them than most other mmos.
The point is this is not exclusive to NCsoft, it's a huge problem every MMO faces.
People have been burned in the past with L2 so it's natural for them to freak. I never played L2 that much so I don't see the big issue, I dealt with bots and gold sellers in all other MMOs too. It takes months for new MMOs to get a grib on it after release.
So we'll see if this is still a huge problem this time next year, then I and many others will be bitching along with everyone else.

Its easy to get rid of gold famers/bots; however, if implemented it also makes the real player base not like the game. AoC did this by making the game skill>gear and then making the gear thats worth anything BoP. When AoC implemented that patch in july all the gold sellers disappeared. Since, they have come back due to people complaing about not being able to get gold to spend on in game mounts because of the above system.
The problem with most korean games is that they tend to be heavily grind focused, and Aion is no different. Once you reach level cap you begin to grind to get high lvls.

There's one BIG difference between AION and L2. You CAN'T attack (and kill) players of the same faction.
I'm kinda wishing the threat with this exact same thing didn't magically disipear. Don't take in all you believe from one translated source.
It's definitely NOT just one translated source. Go to Aionsource.com forums or korean forums (use google traslate) and you'll see.
And before I forget, there's a new post about the new anti-bot patch (which will not work - look at L2).
Go to Aionsource.com forums and see what? The same source, meaning eliot.
About the anti-bot patch, you ask us to look at L2. Did you ever played the game in the past few months? They have a "report" button for bots, that's all and some GM's will manualy handle the bots, but in Aion..it's different, meaning that if a number of players report the same user for an unknown yet times the reported player/bot will experience decreased xp/item drop rate.
I see this as a good news, but yet .. we will see if this will atleast lower the bots.

This is a really dangerous system that can be exploited to a great deal.
Very large guilds can so grief other players by cooperatively report them for botting, while they aren't.
Such automatic features are bound to be abused and fail misserably.
You either have to set the number of unique reports needed so high that it becomes uneffective or it will be abused no matter what.

All the report function does is flag the person and time stamp it for a GM to check the logs latter. It doesn't lead to an instant ban
