I know lately everyone has been flipping out in about the cash shop. Which i honestly dont really get myself... I've seen many games do worse. And in fact, i actually welcomed this cash shop. Whenever i have a little extra cash, My characther ends up looking more cool. AND my SK finally got his fake drake!
But Anyway, away from the cash shop topic since there are so many already!
I've played this game on and off since release, and while i admit some changes were'nt always considered the best, I think over-all the game has come far AND the graphics NEVER fall behind. The game looks prettier then it did at day one, and the content just gets bigger with time. For these 2 reasons alone i think this is a great PvE game, But that is where i draw the line.
I've run across slightly better PvP games, But this game has to be my favorite for 1v1s, Altho i must admit - The total lack of honor between some PvPers can be abit much for a solo'er like myself. But at the end of the day i think its a nice balance, And a nice game - Sure SoE may be the
But after dealing with Funcom's release, VGs quick death. Along with many other crash and burns, I think you learn to ignore some of the idiotic ideas that come and pass, and just enjoy the game for what it has to offer.
Anyway, I've blabbed on long enough (Or as i'd like to say "vented") But before i go, I'd like to leave all you possible EQ2 players with a video that shows a fair bit of EQ2 Content.
*edit: heres a video to show some of the cool housing stuff also:
Enjoy the game for what you can, Deal with what you can, Move on when you cant. And to all the MMOers, Game on!

You paid real cash money for that??
You where ripped off pal.
Why? Because he had the money to spend? I don't play this game anymore, quit long before the expansion came out. But seriously, so what they have an item shop ontop of p2p. If people want to play the game they will. If they want to buy items, they have every right to. If you hate the game for those reasons thats fine also. But nobody is getting ripped off. SOE is trying to make an extra buck. Should they have made it clear awhile back, YES. Does it matter now that it's implemented, NO. Can you change that fact, NO. With that being said, SOE, a failing company is trying to make extra cash and generate profit. Is this common, YES. So now, with that being said, things should be clear. The OP wanted to show the bright side of the debate and he did. Looks sweet if you ask me. Will it get me to come back, NO. I just don't dig the game anymore. Would it be a rip-off if I or anyone did, NO. It's your money. Spend it how you like, who cares about the rest. It's not like we live forever.
I had $5 left from my fees since the minimum i could put on my card is $20. Plus i always wanted a drake for my SK since its the reason i started playing an SK, i must've got ripped.

I've been toying with the idea of getting the walking hand. The one that looks like 'Thing' from The Addams Family.

Outside of SOE being described as a failing company, well said. I think SOE is a company trying to redefine itself in today's more competitive mmo market place. They have not found their stride yet but when they do I think great things maybe on the horizon.

Havent found there stride yet?? You have got to be kiddin me , they have been tripping over themselves for 10 years....
My entire guild left EQ2 becuase of this move they lost 20 subs ..
I honestly wouldnt care about there RMT if they didnt puke it up all over every server .. They could of started new servers and offered free transfers for people who dont want this mechanic in there game..
Or designated a few existing servers with the option of again free transfer off to a server without this mechanic...
SOE is teetering and by this time next year will be relying entirely on its couple of new MMO to support the already dying communities in there other 6..

No I am not kidding. If you notice I said "redefine". You see SOE is going a new possible different direction and that is taking mmos to console. They defined mmos as we know them today, when EQ was released march 16th 1999. SOE lead the industry for a number of years after that, really until the NGE problems. Since then they have been trying to figure out who they are in the post WOW release market. The last two year SOE has been changing and the direction appears to be console. Do not disconnect SOE from SONY and PS3. Home for the PS3 was released a couple weeks ago. Home is a new way to look at online interaction. SONY is trying new directions in the mmo world. Not the old school pc only mmo world but the larger multi-platform world. That is why I made that comment because they are just figuring out their direction for the future and despite the hope many have for them to burn in hell I think they are positioned to be leading the industry again in a few years.
To bad you entire guild left EQ2 over a "fluff" cash station. Not a single member of my guild left and we have added at least 6 new players to our rooster since the item mall. On the Mistmoore server the item mall is not an issue and after the first two days no one even talks about it. I have not witnessed the exodus that many have claimed.

Great, that would be brilliant sounds exactly in line with some of the moves SOE has made in the past .. Lets hitch our failing MMO market to our failing PS3 market and see what comes out.. brilliant..
Well, we will have to wait and see.
Its crap on the store..if you're daft enough to pay for fluff then hey its your cash to spend simple as that.
SOE are trying to redifine themselves i agree with Ecco on that i think they'll move ever closer to useing the ps3 as the lead format from now on (and why souldnt they?),mainly becuase they've been absorbed into the PS divison now,so in that way it makes perfect sense.
Will they leave the pc market?? no i dont think so,i just dont think it will be the main focus of thier dev time from now on
SOE players are suffering from Battered Wife Syndrome, always defending their abusers.
Doesnt anyone here even care that Smedley AGAIN lied to you all ? He flatly stated there would never ever be RMT in EQ2. Not only did he lie, he then pulls the same NGE crap and waits until an expansion launches before screwing you over.
Anyone who plays a SOE game deserves their abuse. You should have walked away years ago
when i was 10 i flatly stated i would never ever eat salad ... now i have salad with many of my meals.
when everquest 2 first came out developers said soloing would ONLY be done in hubs to wait for groups in dungeons. Poor analogy with the battered wife syndrome and the defending comments. You see, except for NGE, I like what they have done. Many are ok with the cash station. I bought a house pet and I like having it in my house a great deal. It was well worth the 3 dollars I spent for the enjoyment I get having it. After all isn't that why we play these game to find entertainment and enjoyment? If they ever would put a set of armor in that actually looked good I might buy it. I have not been abused as you claim. I am glad they changed their mind and added it. I would like to see more items added to it. Not everyone see this like you do and considers it some kind of scam. Don't think you are so correct in your assesment to suggest we, who play EQ2 or any SOE game, should have walked years ago and are being abused without even knowing it. I know this much, 1000s of players including myself are having a lot of fun.

the way you leave the rpg part out of mmorpg tells me everything i need to know about you.
the way you leave the rpg part out of mmorpg tells me everything i need to know about you.
What does it tell you about me? That I am all about role-play? Since We are here at mmorpg.com and most people for short just use MMO the rpg is a given. I played WoW for 4 years had a few toons on a role-play server and stayed in character all of the time. Even to the extent, on one character, that I would not talk on chat unless the person I was talking to was standing near me so no world chat at all. I go all the way back to ZORK. In EQ2 I role-play all my toons the majority of the time. I think of them as having different personalities and most of the time present them as such. In SWG I basically conducted my play style as if I lived in the game world. I love mmorpgs. Every mmo (mmorpg) I have played I role played in and found that most people don't. I found this disappointing but I find those that role-paly and play with them. I simple did not type the rpg part above. Is that what it told you?

Good post Ecco. I play on Antonia Bayle server and when the shop first went live one guildie said he was quitting but didnt lol. We too have been picking up members and after the one fellow had his blow up it has been a dead topic in guild chat. I fail to see why some people wish so hard for the colapse of a game that has done so much for mmo's and a company that has done so much for gaming in general. I do not seperate soe from sony either and wonder what the gaming world would be like with just microsoft and nintendo. I do not own a "next gen" console at this time and do not plan to buy one anytime soon but the capability of playing a true mmorpg on a PS3 does entice me. Again, good post im sure the folks looking for informed opinions of EQ2 appreciate it. And i agree, the mass exodus from EQ2 is greatly exaggerated.
There will be a price drop on the PS3 this summer.
Seeing as I finally caved in and bought myself one for Xmas, I'm sure you're right. lol

Smedly didnt "change" his mind. He lied, big difference. And make no mistake, it was a lie. The fact that SOE didnt make an announcement and sprung RMT on the community shortly after an expansion is clear proof.
SOE knew the reaction so purposely lied to keep you all playing. Then sprung the RMT after the expansion just like the NGE to ensure sales from those likely to cancel. And players like you thank them for it....wow
Heck why not sell a lvl capped toon with best possible gear and let them game just be a virtual chat room ? Thats where its heading with this rmt garbage. It cheapens the experience for others who play and earn their accomplishments.
I dont think fans of RMT understand whats at stake. At its core, MMO's are about spending countless hours in a virtual world improving your avatar. RMT changes the very essence of an MMO.
I understand the folks who like RMT. But some things are supposed to take time, be hard to get, and not all reach the top. Trying to speak to the fastfood instant gratification generation though I suppose is pointless. They want their satisfaction and its overall effect on MMO's be damned
its not that people "like" RMT its just that with the stuff thats on the cash shop ... many don't see it as a threat to thier experience.

I was in a guild of 20 people. One of us bitched and moaned about the harmless cash shop..so 19 of us said we were "outraged" and are quitting "for good". Well the one thorn in our side is gone and we are all enjoying the game more than ever. I even bought a new hat for my toon...I look awesome..
Fluff Cash Shops dont ruin games, Constant Doomsaying does.
youtube.com/deraged1
So where do I get one of these Drakes for my SK without buying it from the item shop?
I dont think you can, I've looked for something similar since seeing one in EQoA and this was the closest i got to it.
youtube.com/deraged1
So then the item shop does give an advantage over playing. Anything in an item mall should also be obtainable through playing the game normally. Still trying to find where we can loot those XP potions, also.
