EVE Online: Apocrypha Uncovers a New Version of the Universe Itself

Reykjavik, Iceland January 8, 2008- CCP, one of the world’s leading independent game developers, today announced the launch of the tenth free expansion for EVE Online, its popular science-fiction massively multi-player online game (MMOG). EVE Online: Apocrypha is the most ambitious EVE expansion in the game's over five year history and it coincides with the March 10th, 2009 release of EVE Online as a boxed product through a partnership with Atari.

The fabric of space itself will be transformed as vast, unpredictable wormholes open to connect previously unexplored regions of the universe to the stars of New Eden. The seeds of advanced new technology await inside of these cosmic anomalies for those brave enough to explore them. This infusion of technology will enable production of the most dynamic vessels ever – Tech 3 modular ships with an astounding amount of customizability that can fill any role from skirmish muscle to industrial support.

Furthermore, NPC agents in EVE Online: Apocrypha will be authorized to assign Epic Mission Arcs to the pilots of New Eden. These branching, far-reaching mission strings are full of meaningful stories and more intelligent and deadly adversaries.

In addition, we are offering an entirely reworked New Player Experience for those joining (or rejoining) the game – giving them better insight into how to thrive in a truly limitless universe. We’ve already launched EVElopedia—a great repository for information on all things EVE where our players are also building their own living history of the previous five years of Alliance warfare, political intrigue and nostalgic recollection

“Just this past week we broke our concurrent user record with 45,186 people flying unbound in the same game world at the same time—a huge percentage of our quarter of a million current subscribers and a true testament to EVE in our sixth year of operation,” said EVE Online Senior Producer Torfi Frans Olafsson. “Today is an unprecedented time to start playing, as you can get ahead of the curve before Apocrypha releases in stores and our hard work hits the server cluster. It’ll be easier than ever to get ‘lost in the wormhole’ that is EVE with what we have planned for the future of our expanding universe.”

Leading up to the release of EVE Online: Apocrypha and the boxed version of EVE Online in stores, we’ll be revealing more features on www.eveonline.com.

Availability:

EVE Online: Apocrypha will be available at retail stores across the galaxy in March this year and as a free download at www.eveonline.com/download/ for existing subscribers. A new Premium graphics client for Mac will also be included in the retail box.

Visit the EVE website now to sign up for a free 14-day trial account or to reactivate your account to get ahead of the curve.

I never would have guess that the new ships would have industrial modules, maybe they are going to give the carbears their "teeth".

Its a great time to play EVE, and it was nice to see them verify how many subscribers they have (250K) and how they define the term subscriber since those questions came up recently in posts here on the forums.

Of course, since everyone has 25 accounts each, (according to myth and legend) it means there's really only 10000 people playing.

    no mention of ambulation... yet.

i understand it's a press release, i would think ambulation is a bigger item thanTech 3 modular ships; but again, that's my opinion.

i also think ambulation would increase subs (or bring back more subs), again i guess that's my opinion.

It is good news but i agree, Ambulation will strike a lot more interest..Some people say Oh walking around, big deal. But i think adding a better social aspect to the game will make a huge difference

Agreed. I think that the T3 addition will fundamentally effect the actual gameplay itself more than ambulation, but ambulation will draw more people into the game by either getting old subscribers back or new players.

This Xpac, Content patch whatever you want to call it is going to be big.

A whole new tech tier? Thats freaking crazy.

just the fact that the ships could be customized with different sections is enough to make my head explode.

If the Xpac only included the Tech 3 Fits and worm holes it would already be massive were also getting other improvements to the game like a totally revamped Epic mission structure.

This reminds me of that old PSone game Colony Wars. In that game you got to run several different types of missions and depending on your level of success or failure you got a completely different mission to play through as you prgressed the storyline.  This change to missioning will finally bring mission running  (something that was basically a add in before) inline with the rest of eves features.

I think now a mission runner will be viewed as a Viable play career instead of just known as a joke that cant hack pvp and is too afraid to venture to low sec space.

Then these guys are adding in a New player revamp, a little more hand holding so players dont quit the game frustrated.

this Xpac is going to be cool.

Then after we get this in March we have Ambulation to look forward to and now that we know CCP has pooled thier resources back to Eve I wouldnt be suprised to see a third Xpac this year.

Ambulation is for a fall or holiday release.  It's around that time that more people pay to gaming news just because all the other developers are PRing everyone to death.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

i totally agree with what you're saying about the flexibility for the ships... if this is done correctly, it will address a major complaint i've had (and i'm sure others as well) about NOT being able to REALLY customize ships.

but, they can only mention ambulation for so many years before i start thinking "uh huh, darkfall has videos too".

Seriously!!!! I think the majority of the people bitching about Tech3 don't play Eve at all.

Eve players are spaceship gear heads, what could we want morethen to fully customize spaceships!!!

the good news here of course is that your opinion carries no weight at all.

yours on the contrary is full of importance just by itself.

You come into a thread to troll with a dumb ass Line like "Atari just dropped a couple points in my consideration..." and dont expect to get a retarded response in return.

Why don't you actually explain yourself as to why a company like atari thats going to profit from this business deal with CCP has dropped a few points in your little head?

Atari profit while associating with a company that doesn't even know how to handle:

    - Their own developers exploiting and interfering in the game?

-4 years bug in game mechanics that was exploited to the maximum and influenced directly with their players ( and paying subscribers ) gaming experience?

Oh wait... and lets remember what happened with the first packaged edition of EvE... FAILURE!!!

So before calling me a troll or a retard you and the other basement pubbies should start by going out into the street and smell the roses, EvE may have what it takes to be a good game but it has a very very very poor Dev and Support team.

    Space dragons... err... whales.

I doubt T3 will impact me much since it'll be mostly not allowed in Factional Warfare if they extend current plex mechanics to apply to T3 - T3 frigs will be allowed in the majors, with everything still being allowed in the fairly rare Unrestricted level complexes.  The majority of the fighting will still be T1/T2 frigs and T1 cruisers.

Other things sound interesting though.. I got some Storefront ideas I'd like to try out...

Thats how you feel, fine ...

I think EVE is great for what it is, if you don't like the game, don't play it.

And CCP made some mistakes, but they fixed it.

And because the 1st packaged edition failed, they should never try again, lol

No not exactly how i feel but i do believe i have the right to expose my opinion, last time i checked thats what forums were all about... aye?

I think EVE is great for what it is, if you don't like the game, don't play it.

Who said anything about EvE not being good?Does it bother you that much that someone that plays the game has a different opinion of yours?

And CCP made some mistakes, but they fixed it.

No they did not, T20 never got what he deserved and this latest exploit has generated a massive protest by part of the players, if the game forums weren't so crappy handled ( yet another display of how CCP does a poor job of keeping their own house clean ) i bet that even more players would be aware and concerned about people interfeering and getting unfair advantages in the game, either by having stuff given to them by Devs or having people gaining game currency through exploited game mechanics ( aka bugs ) .

Let me remind you that that bug existed for at least 4 years, has been reported and , well, its speaks for itself when the game designers and gms take the option of doing nothing to fix it... kind of a reassuring picture uhm?

And because the 1st packaged edition failed, they should never try again, lol

I never said that they shouldn't try again, let them try i say, perhaps its the first step for EvE and its designers to start  again taking steps in the right direction.

Well not quite a "whole" tier,  Apparently the only tech 3 stuff will be ships up to cruiser size, nothing bigger yet on release.  There is no mention yet about T3 modules either

Also, we dont know what kind of maturation process T3 will have.. I will probably be MANY months before you have the skills to manufacture T3, never mind FLY T3 ships.

So yes, exciting times ahead.. but dont get too excited, youll end up being disapointed.

So Eve isn't a successful company? thier game hasent risen in activity in subs every day since day 1?

See this thing is Eve is a good game and with a game box more people will try the game, who wouldn't with a 19.99 price point?

this is a good move by atari Imo Just if the fanbois alone that play the game buy a box just to have one it will be a success.

Hell im going to buy one because i prefer to have a physical box instead of redownloading my Eve client over and over everytime i put together a new system.

And god forbid CCP adds in like a special item either physical or ingame there wont be one person not chelling out 20 bucks to get it.

So I dont see how brining up a few of CCPs passed problems directly relates to Ataris partnership being a failure.

Hell man im going to get the box just to keep it as a collector.
