none of us are hardcore, we just just people playing a video game.. all hardcore means is that when you die you could basically lose EVERYTHING you have if you arent careful
Off topic, But I think snowboarding for 14 hours is pretty hardcore. Yes I'm a snowboard junky.
You're both wrong. 1) Hardcore is now considered by you only to be a mode of play in RPGs which equals permanent death (meaning you loose your stash, money, and your character... I.e., Sacred 2 is an rpg w/ a Hardcore and Softcore mode of play... you can choose). And, 2) respectively, if you can't choose your mode in whatever MMORGP you're in, and death is not permanent, than that game is considered to be "Softcore" by default.
Since when you are the authority on defining terms?
are we defining the terms Hardcore game or Hardcore gamer? because they are really different.. and often missunderstood and missleading.
Hardcore game what i would consider hardcore has to be Ninja guiden 2 on the hardest mode without saving.
Hardcore gamer. Thats just a person who have gaming as one of there highest priorities (means they play games rather than watch tv, or even sleep at nights). A real game addict, They have a High Technical Undertanding on computer hardware, and the industry, and they are really "up to date".. a real hardcore gamer, plays likely up to over 100 games a year (and you guessed, on hard mode) and are one of the driving forces of the industry, but they are also the ones behind the piracy. Hardcore mmo gamer? what is that? a person who has nr1 priority in cyberslacking?
No these guys are chalking themselves up as heroes, or feeling really grand by talking about a game. In order to simplify talking and save their mental efforts in explaining why tney are heroes, they used the big words "hard core" as a way to summarise without explanation, why they are heroes.
In that way they just keep talking with the words "hard core" and they begin to feel elevated up to the sky.
Now I see a lot of people claiming Darkfall as "zomg its HARDCOREE!" PVP!!" and really I fail to see whats so "hardcore" about it. I admit that being able to attack anyone anywhere anytime and being able to steal their items, mounts, houses and whatever else as harsh and unforgiving. But to just respawn seconds later is not that hardcore. Now im sure exactly sure how this works but I heard someone mention that lineage 2 added some feature where you made a special class and when you died playing as this class that was it, no respawn and your character was deleted. I am in no way a fan of lineage 2 I was only using it as an example of something thats actually "hardcore". I mean whats more hardcore than your character being deleted after you die? Having said that I am excited to see what darkfall brings to the table (if when it comes out). Im just tired of kids claiming it as hardcore when really, its not.
I'm not aware of any such thing in L2, to be honest and I've played and/or followed it since beta, though more actively since Chronicle 3.
I haven't played in a few weeks, but I know some who actively play... I'll ask them if they know anything about that, 'cause I've never heard of any such thing.
Can't imagine it would be too popular with the amount of time (years in some cases) and effort and money (whether real or in-game) people put into their characters in that game... I couldn't imagine a single player I know who would want to risk all that being "deleted" like that.

There is no such thing as "hardcore" PvP. Its something UO/DAOC/Shadowbane/<insert old mmorpg name here> players say so they can somehow feel superior to you.
Its kind of like when your dad tells you how he used to go to school uphill for five miles both ways in the rain in 100F weather.

Yes there is. There is more or less "hardcore" games.
UO was a hardcore game, before Age of Shadows made it a carebear game february 2003.
WoW, LOTRO, WAR and AoC is good examples of games that's less "hardcore".
Darkfall will be a game that is more hardcore compared to the ones mentioned above. More like old UO.
Hardcore means that when you die, your items disappear, your character is deleted, your ingame bank is cleared, your RL bank account is drained , your RL wife is raped and your RL kids are taken to slave in the mines of China. Then a hitman comes and kills you with a hammer.
Now that is hardcored. Anything less is simply not hardcore. Sorry OP.
Yeah.. a gamer who plays 24/7 and prioritates games instead of a girlfriend, getting married and have kids, is extremly hardcore.. they are acturly so hardcore that there genes is about to be deleted from existance.
Full loot is pretty hardcore when compared with anything else on the market. Hardcore enough for me. I guess EvE (great game) is an exception. All the other new mmos tend to go with protectin' the purplees approach.

I'm far from a hardcore player, playing ~10h/week. Still I looking forward to Darkfall.

I wouldnt think youd have time to do much else considering all the time you waste shilling for DF.
The term hardcore is just ridiculous. Its not a definition of a playstyle so much as a description of attitude.
Most gamers toss this term around in a misguided attempt to elevate themselves. When I think of hardcore, I think of UFC fighters, or that guy who gets dropped off in the middle of the wilderness and has to survive on whats there, not a bunch of dorks (myself included), who are sitting around in their comfy chairs trying to pretend theyre somehow more of a man than someone else who is doing the same thing.
Hardcore or maybe more like Die Hard strongly or fanatically determined or devote. About hardcore pvp the more pure form will be no safe zones and permanent death or you lose all your loot and back to square one. Good luck trying to sell that one to casual players or cry babies "hardcore players".
Like the earth has a hard core made of steel..MMO will have a hardcore designed game : DarkFall

Again, thats just another fanboi trying to elevate DFO and himself over everyone else. Darth youve never even played the game, save your label for when you actually have proof.
First and foremost we are talking about games. There is nothing to take pride over a game. You can beat Mr Unknown nobody in an internet digital simulation duel, maybe due to lags, due to glitches in game, due to luck, due to randomness, due to bug in the game design. That is all. Feeling proud? Oh dear, there is nothing more "proud" than this. You must be very special. Punts intended.
Hardcore, nobody ever defines it. Quite a few here use the word to "define" whatever he does. I wonder why none of these self-inflated egos talk about helping people, making friends, building social network, building cooperation, as "hardcore". Instead, all these selfish guys define themselves as killers, as robbers, full-loot, ffa killing is what they can think of in a game. Such self-labelling "hardcore" people are exactly the kind of people I do not even want to meet in RL or in games. They call themselves hardcore, I see them as social deviates.

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.
Hardcore does not equal permadeath.
