The TCG of SWG is using the very same mechanics of the EQ2 TCG. Because of the fact that little to no money was used to produce it , Its existences only proves that SOE is a bunch of grave digging ghouls.
One thing is for sure I am again tired of this rehashing so I think I will find myself another sit down coffee break passtime cause what you said has been said before and validated before its just yet another repeat of the same old same old only by another poster.
Yet here you are still posting...
Don't leave though. Your posts are just too precious.
"It's a fact that the only way to get tradeable performance enhancing loot is to gamble real cash on TCG booster packs. That's a fact, not an opinion."
Why this statement is false, look at just one galaxie trade post for someone selling the tradable game cards for INGAME CREDITS. They are selling the cards which could be traded again and again, they become no-trade once they are redeemed. TCG;
Barn and cantina - 50 mil each
Organiztional Datapad x3 - 20 mil Each

True, but for that card to enter into circulation, someone has to pay money for it. Not saying that's right or wrong, just clarifying.
Congratulations, kobie. You've finally entered the truth-based community. We welcome you with open arms.

Please tell me one thing I've posted in the past that has been a lie. You folks constantly accuse me of "carrying water for SOE," often at the expense of the truth, so please indulge me.
NEWS FLASH: The "truth" is not exclusive property of the so-called "vets."
So I started to walk into the water. I won't lie to you boys...I was terrified. But I pressed on, and as I made my way past the breakers, a strange calm came over me. I don't know if it was divine intervention or the kinship of all living things, but I tell you, Jerry, at that moment ... I was a marine biologist.

I cannot say that you lie and I am not going to go look up records or anything however I would say that it is "rare" for you to openly agree with something a "vet" posted about. Could be just me though.

fair enough...I am just going by my observations of your postings that I see on these boards as well as on the oboards.
The key is play the game you like and when you stop liking it stop playing.
SOE would probably love it if we all just went away...too bad it's not going to happen.
Pardon but am I to interpret that as you actualy subscribe to games you dont like playing? There is a thread in another forum on pavlovian responses to mmorpg's and the fact that people who obviously dont like a game simply continue to play them and simply complain about that fact. Although I think he is being a bit harsh in his wording he is basically defining a conditioned response and an unhealthy addiction. If you continue to play games you dont like and have no fun in I would say you are indeed conditioned to play for no other reason then its habit and at that point I would classify it as an addiction. So whatever man most people quit games they dont enjoy and go find something fun to play that gives them joy and pleasure to play.
I am not so sure it is addiction. I am not saying it isn't, just there may be more to it than that. We all know that it dosen't take a day to get to the top in our games of choice. Folks develop a strong attachment to their characters and the possesions and assets of said characters. In the case of SWG, with all that was done and the lies told by the devs, I think is more of a deeper hope. I see a lot of venom on both sides..The disgruntled vets (of which I'm one) and the current players. I, myself am over it and have been for years, I don't think of SWG these days (lol). But the folks who are so militant about defending it even the ones who say they hate it or whatever but still play, is an attachment and a hope theat their "suffering" will pay off. It's also hope that they aren't stupid.
Its kind of like a scilon. (scientologist) The reason they are so militant about any criticism on their cult is because they have so much invested, when it comes right down to it. Anyone OT3 or above especially. By the time you get OT3 and learn about Xenu the alien , you are already in for $300 large. Thats a lot of dough. In the process, you have probly lost everything , and are living in one of thier compounds. In the scilon's perspective HE BETTER DAMN WELL BE RIGHT. Because if he aint he's sunk his life into this thing, and no one likes to think they are that guillable and stupid to fall for a scam like that.
Now for the gamer think of all the subsciption money they have shelled out and all the play time they have invested. And, in the case of SWG, all the BS they have had to put up with. They are in it for the long haul, because there has to be a pay off. There HAS to be. So I can understand BOTH sides. I don't think however, the issue is addiction, just a simple hope that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
The games I recently quit I had a hard time doing because of the investment made, but as a consumer I could not justify paying for a game run by companies who are run like cell phone companies, so in the end it wasn't a hard decision. But I can understand the mentality of: "O next patch it will get fixed" ""Ok I'll give it one more patch." ..3-4-5 years later...
I think this is an extremely insightful and informative post, and it helps to explain exactly what I'm talking about. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts.
I also take it as a bit of a personal challenge (or wake up call). Could I get myself so invested in something that meets needs for me, that I'd be willing to believe and share falsehoods to try to protect my investment? I hope not, but we all have our blindspots.
I think self-awareness, integrity and a willingness to let something go might be safeguards against this, as well as trying to be open to outside information (humility and open-mindedness if you will).
These dynamics also remind me of the group-think phenomenon, where a closed group of people reinforce their own ideas, largely to safeguard their investment, and they become unable or unwilling to hear information that contradicts their basic assumptions. We studied the occurence of this at NASA for instance in one of my sociology classes. This can happen to very smart people; it's sobering.
Yep, you are exactly right. You were able to say what I was trying to say, as my basic understanding of human nature goes. It's just not as easy for me to put it eloquently into socialological appropriate terms..Thank you sir!
LOL...when I saw oddjob I immediately thought of that fat chinaman henchman with the lethal bowler hat from James Bond Goldfinger.
Best Bond villain ever.

Like I'm saying, people can see what's going on with this kind of post. I don't really even need to say anything do I? Makes me happy inside lol
It's become obvious that some people will say, and perhaps believe, anything they like in order to try to save or protect their online happy place. Some may get paid to do it, others may be staff doing it in their spare time, and I'm sure many are just players that don't want to lose their virtual experience. I'll be honest, I didn't want to lose my virtual experience either. Who does? MMOs create emotional attachments and people get invested in their progress. Nobody wants to lose this, but would you lie to protect it? Would you say that the loot vehicles offer no advantages when information has been clearly posted saying that they do? Would you say that SOE can be counted on to listen to their players when time and time again they have failed to do so? Would you suggest that one example of listening to a players request could possibly offset all of the deceptions and broken promises of the past 5 years? Would you say that loot cards do not give player buffs? How 'bout this one: Would you be happy that SOE is squeezing large amounts of cash from fellow gamers via their TCG game of chance because it means you may get some of the content you've been hoping for? Would you pull up laws from another country to try to defend actions taking place in the United States? Would you say that the NGE and the TCG have been well received, and that it's only a vocal minority that complain about them? Some people would. Every one of these examples can be found somewhere on these boards and more. We can provide these people over and over again with factual information. We can provide quotes from devs, from Smed or from other internet sources to back it up, and it won't matter. Why not? Because the truth does not fit with their agenda. Hopefully I'll remember this and spare myself some frustration in future discussions lol; I guess we'll see .
yeah its sad your world got taken from you, but why put that punishment on newer people who enjoy the game, yes i know its strange that people can enjoy a game no matter all the bad things that have happened but its true. Does it really bother you that much? why can't they just be happy playing the game they enjoy at this point, many many years later, did they ask you to protect them for SOE? i mean really if i see anyone here defend the game or say the like it they get trashed and called names, if i see anyone post negative comments they get trashed, your all guilty, hell i'm guilty of it at times.
Why do topics keep getting locked? because even though you are good about discussing things, others run in screaming viral marketer and fanboi and others run in screaming omg hater, maybe when people grow up some this place won't have to be regulated so much. There are rules here, people shouldn't cry if they get in trouble for not following them.
I'm sure there are other places to post if they feel the need to cuss and argue and call names.
All i'll say is who's truth? i read around here a lot and people seem to have their own truth for everything. same with facts, everyone says their facts, but they are nothing but opinion.
Oh hi Scalebane Actually I'm glad people are having fun in SWG.
Also, I don't have a problem with any locked posts. I don't think I mentioned anything about that? Maybe that's a carry over from another conversation that I'm not part of.
I'm also talking about actually lying to preserve something you enjoy. You know like "the loot cards do not give players any ingame advantages." "SWG doesn't have a population problem." "The new game changes are being well received." Simple obvious things like that. Some people will say them, and if you point out simple facts, they won't hear you, will change the subject, or will come back with something like, "Smed does NOTsleep with sheep!" Erm, who said he did? Lol, that's the kind of thing I'm talking about.
As for, "whose truth?" I'm a pretty existential guy actually, post-modern and all that. Different points of view can all have equal validity, but this doesn't justify outright lying. Either the loot cards give advantages or they don't, for instance. Saying that they don't, isn't a point of view. It's a lie. Saying that there is no population problem isn't a point of view. It's a lie. People have been hollering about the empty servers for between 2 and 3 years now. Smed promised to fast track server mergers because of the problem, and now they're finally doing transfers.
I've just decided that some people find accurate information threatening, and they'll say or do anything to try to deny things that really aren't that hard for people to see.
I'm thinking out loud that debating with these folks is a waste of my time and energy. I really don't think it takes a brain surgeon to spot when someone repeatedly says things that are obvious fabrications. This should make some SOE defenders happy actually lol. They can pretty much say what they like at this point, and I'm not likely to respond. I think it's all just so obviously silly at this point that nothing more needs to be said. Hopefully that clarifies things a bit
I also think some people (very few current players mind you) will indeed keep lying to try to keep their game afloat, and I think SOE will keep using these people until the whole thing inevitably implodes. Ah well, what can ya do eh? It's bound to happen, and reason won't make a difference apparently, so I think I should just sit back and let nature take it's course. When you fight reality, it always wins in the end, and the longer you fight the bigger ass-kicking you usually get lol.
I usually agree with you bro, but if different points of view have equal validity, then there is no truth, then there is no such thing as lying -- that is why post-modernism collapses in upon itself in its own self contradiction.
Hiya Fish! Sweet, a philosophical dialogue . I'm with you actually. I think there are certain unalterable truths. Post-modernism for me (heh how post-modern is that?) is more that there is more than one valid point of view at times. I want to emphasize at times.
Here's an example. What tastes better, chocolate pudding or vanilla? There's some subjective reality going on there. Acknowledging subjective reality for me, isn't an outright dismissal of objective truth.
What's fun? That's another subjective reality issue. People can say, "SWG is fun!" Cool, I believe them. It's fun for them, no argument.
However, when you say buffs don't...buff you, well that's just a lie. What do you think of that?
I'm off topic, but ahhh, I was so glad to see someone point out the absurdity of the mindset that "different points of view can have equal validity." As for chocolate vs. vanilla, those aren't two different realities, those are simple preferences. It's still true that one person prefers chocolate and another prefers vanilla. I get a little exasperated at times when I see people getting all this confused, because it's been the source of a lot of bad things in this world.

See you in the dream.. The Fires from heaven, now as cold as ice. A rapid ascension tolls a heavy price.
Using the loot card example (though this thread still isn't really about that in my view). It's a fact that the only way to get tradeable performance enhancing loot is to gamble real cash on TCG booster packs. That's a fact, not an opinion. It's also a fact that legislation passed in the U.S. in 2006 prohibits online games that risk real money on a chance outcome. These are both facts. It is therefore my opinion that the way SOE runs their TCG is unethical and possibly illegal--someone else will have to render a judgment on that though. I'm retired from law enforcement, and I never was a judge .
I'm glad the stuff I've cut has been somewhat resolved.
As for the quote I've left above, firstly I think you over emphasis the "performance enhancing" nature of these TCG cards. Yes, they will enhance you but they're certainly not the end-all be-all items. You're at no disadvantage by not having these cards, and many of them have their own downsides.
The buff items for instance, use the same slots as buffs from Mustafar. They're very simillar to the buffs you get from Mustafar but their duration is much shorter and their cool downs are much longer. The pod-racers are apparantly faster then other vehicles but they're alot more expensive to repair (60k I believe, from what people have told me) then the other non-TCG vehicles in the game (7.5k - 15k) - they also don't give a defensive buff while you're mounted on them like some other vehicles do.
You don't have to spend real money to get the booster packs, you can buy them off others for credits or even trade them for other in-game items. This is how I've picked up the packs I've aquired over the last few months. Yes, obviously someone had to buy the packs at some point but they got exactly what they set out to obtain (credits in the main game).

Which doesn't excuse SOE from running an online gambling operation, doesn't make it any more ethical, and doesn't resolve the issue that the "pay to gamble" decks, cards, and loot items are treated (better) than the "free" decks, cards, and loot items (NO TRADE).
SOE has obviously set things up so that:
1. You have a very VERY small chance of getting anything without "pay to play", and even less to get a particular item you want.
2. Items obtained without "pay to play" have no actual value because they are NO TRADE.
3. The only way to increase your chance to get what you wanted OR to have items with value (ie: that you can sell) is to pay to play.
The fuel for this is the fact that SOE has chosen to introduce highly desirable stuff through this rather than the appropriate route of putting them in game or allowing the crafters to make them. If this "game" only had the fluff type non stat items that WOW and others had, it wouldn't sell at all and SOE knows this.
Hang on to your wallet because it's only going to get WORSE. Now that SOE has started the TCG gravy train, the only way to keep the thing rolling is to make the next set of in game items EVEN MORE OUTRAGING than the previous.
I'd bet that they will do this even to the point of obsoleting vehicles, buildings, items, etc from the previous TCG. When you are dealing with a dishonest, corrupt organization like SOE the only winning move is not to play.
For the good of the industry, and in partcular for MMORPG players, the SOE method of RMT, macrotranscam and (no) Trade (non) Card (uber loot) Game NEEDS to fail just as the NGE did. Every idea these bastards comes up with is a "screw the players" idea.
Of course it's gambling. Is it illegal gambling? I have no idea. Do I care on those grounds? Well, I wouldn't be a very good libertarian if I was against gambling or believed in many gambling laws (short of fraud being illegal, thus the house can't cheat you, and you can't cheat the house).
The same thing with the money "grab." I wouldn't be a very good radical for capitalism if I was against what is being termed as a "money grab" by my veteran brethren.
No, I'm not crazy how certain items would be better if crafters had them -- but well, that's not what I would call a game-breaking issue, and that's been going on for a long time.
I love my AT-RT. I paid for it. With real money. I would rather have spent in-game time doing things to get it, but it wasn't the end of the world and it hurt no one that I bought it. It didn't take away anything. It added to the game and I still have every crafted speeder I can hold in my pads on most of my characters.
I'm still ambivalent on the issue.
Sorry to further the hijack on the issue. On the subject of honesty:
Kobie's honest. Obraik is pretty honest.
Both misrepresent others when they reply, But "we" do that as well.
Both sides lie, and have liars. I do think they are a bit worse.
Those are certifiable, God-inspired, battle and clinically tested facts
An AT-RT that you can buy for 5 million on most servers in credits. Or how about the new STAP-1 speeder that is just as fast as the podracers you can get for doing a 15 min quest ingame during the lifeday event that ends on the 12th?
I think in a couple years every game will have RT micro-transactions, this ship has sailed and you can't stop it.

Sure you can...consumers can just say no and vote with their wallets. No customers...no RMT...no game. Of course if we are discussing SOE they never follow sound business practices anyway so they will have an RMT store selling stuff to no one.
Just because they make micro transaction games doesn't mean that people have to follow it like lemmings.
Call it petty and call it wrong, but the reason I can't respect the ones enjoying the game right now is similar to what I'd feel if a person was enjoying my stolen car. He may not have been the thief that stole it, and he may be an alright guy, but he is getting his enjoyment from my loss.
I still wonder what I did so wrong to be treated like I was by SOE. I played by the rules. I payed my sub fees (2 times over). I didn't do the things that made the game crappy, like AFK dance, spin group, fight club, or base grind. I got every expansion (2 times over), participated on the forums and on TC, and wore the helper tag. I stood up for SOE when people started complaining about bugs and lack of redress. I held out the faith that things would get better. I payed over $850 in total over a span of about three years. Players today don't have to shell out nearly as much to play for a comparable amount of time as I had to.
So what did I do wrong? What did I do to deserve having everything I liked about SWG be taken away? Was it because I was only part of 200,000 players, rather than 2 million? Was it because I wasn't "young" or "trendy" enough? Was it because I wasn't part of the "target audience?" I'm sorry if I wasn't what you wanted, Smed, but how can I be held responsible for those things?
People may say I'm taking this too personally; that it was just a "business decision," and that I should not think they had anything against me. I don't accept that, because how is it that someone like me gets the shaft when SOE seems to like these new players they have so much better? I mean, they get JTL and an alt free, when I had to pay full price for mine. If SOE was mad that I was just one out of 200,000 (rather than 2 million), what reason do they have for liking these current players so much more than me, seeing as how they are only part of 20,000 people?
The real problem with me "letting go" is that as long as players are enjoying themselves there, it makes me think that SOE holds something against me; that somehow I can pay twice as much to them, and I'll never be as important as these folks they have now. That it doesn't matter how popular I make their games, they'll scrap what I like in a heartbeat. By the same token,. it doesn't matter how little these "target audience" people playing now represent, or how little they give to play the game; SOE will bend over backwards not to change anything they like.
In short, the problem I have with SOE isn't that they like money too much; it's that my money doesn't have as much value as these current players'. The problem isn't that they don't listen to me; it's that they value the opinion of these 20,000 over the 200,000 I was a part of before. The problem isn't that they took my game away; it's that they took my game away to give it to someone else; someone far less deserving of it, because they pay so much less, and represent so few.
If it was a business decision, I could live with it. But how else can a business justify letting go of me and my $850 for some person who pays less, gets more, and does it with 1/10 the numbers? They can't, which means that it isn't a business decision at all, it's personal, because SOE is basically saying that it never mattered that I played by the rules, paid my fees, and did my part. They never really wanted me or my $850 after all, but they took it anyway.

I think that person is taking the NGE far too personally, and being angry at the people who still play because of SOE's decision -- however poor it may have been -- is grossly misplaced.

The TCG of SWG is using the very same mechanics of the EQ2 TCG. Because of the fact that little to no money was used to produce it , Its existences only proves that SOE is a bunch of grave digging ghouls.

Like I'm saying, people can see what's going on with this kind of post. I don't really even need to say anything do I? Makes me happy inside lol
yeah its sad your world got taken from you, but why put that punishment on newer people who enjoy the game, yes i know its strange that people can enjoy a game no matter all the bad things that have happened but its true.
Rip
That sums it up perfectly.

They're just givin ya shit because you pick and choose which truths you want to comment on, only a handful of people that use this forum are above that. I'm not one of them. Lighten up, have fun, be yourself..you'll stop getting so much shit and you'll definately fit in fine. Maybe be a little more clever with the insults..theres little we havent heard or have 100 different ways to answer.
If it makes you feel any better, the "vets" have been called more names and have taken more insults from more different people it makes a couple people calling you a schill a complement in comparison. Im sure you could agree with that. Or do you prefer "eat a dick" and "butthurt" over schill?
See you in the dream..
The Fires from heaven, now as cold as ice. A rapid ascension tolls a heavy price.

Again, the big difference is that when you paid that money you got your AT-RT. You didn't pay the money for a chance at hopefully getting the AT-RT.
I have to disagree. IMO sandbox games are not very conducive to micro-transactions as they break the sense of immersion in a simulated world.

Ten Golden Rules Of Videogame Fanboyism
"SOE has probably united more gamers in hatred than Blizzard has subs"...daelnor
