Going to need a link to the summer update hireling announcement.

They have been put in the game for trial runs several times starting in October.  This last time they were put in and haven't been taken out, so maybe they're considered ready for prime time.

They missed their deadlines badly with hirelings, but considering they locked Codog in his office and are feeding him pizza through a slot till he makes the AI as smart as human players, that's no surprise.

The most recent (and we're talking going back all year) feature to get added were...get this... forum signatures. Yep, the best thing that Turbine could do with the resources dedicated to DDO was to include forum signatures as it were on the LOTRO forums.
Nevermind the guild housing, or improving the auction house, or expanding the open world environment. Nope... you get forum signatures.
With DDO, you always get the feeling of big budget WoW hype but delivers like Runescape. Even when they do come through, its often so late and so twisted, it's not even worth it.
To the fans, how are those hirelings coming along? You remember, those ones that were talked about in the Spring, intended to deliver by the summer, but arrived in October that won't be in the game until January? Par for the course with Turbine.

I played DDO at launch and quit for LotRo some time ago.

I can tell you are so right. It feels like there is no budget for DDO and LotRo has it all.

I would play DDO again only with a Turbine Station Pass but there is no way I'm going to give my $$$ to DDO instead of LotRo nor pay the full monthly fee for DDO.

DDO is a nice game that I would be glad to play form time to time but it's not a main MMO. It lacks so many features. Also Eberon world is

Go to the DDO news section of the forums page 2 has links to a review by Ten Ton Hammer and a review by MMORPG.com both reviewed Mod 8 and both talk about hirelings. This might be why sig thought they were coming out at that time. That is what caused my confusion as well.

Yes, the last update to their AI has really made a difference.. the clerics actually will healbot now. Not as well as a competent human, but well enough we sometimes play "Guess who's the hireling" in lowbie PUGS. :)

There is my confusion, the Ten Ton Hammer review is dated 22nd October, so a tadge late to have been promising hirelings for summer release?

They didn't release Mod 8 with hirelings at the end of October, said there would be an event to try them out, which at least for the US happened, then they went live beginning of Dec. So at most a 6 week delay which came as no surprise because they explained what was happening at every stage.

So the summer promise was a fabrication on the posters part, and the information about them not going to be in game until January was incorrect on the posters part. So we are actually talking 6 weeks while they tweaked the AI and had a live event, well that is just pure evil.

It's amazing how people hold onto their beliefs even when it does not make sense. DDO only has life because of the big brother LOTRO (who gets all the development first). Not because the game itself is doing well. Turbine can run DDO at a loss and still have access to the revenue stream that comes in from DDO, and all they have to do is devote one or two developers to take their sweet ass time and that's all they have to do.

It's simple math... 25,000 subscribers @ $13.00 / month (averaged out among the different subscriber types) = $3.9 million / annually in revenue.

As long as they can cut (and boy have they cut back) DDO back to less than 3.9 million / annual operating expenses, it remains a no brainer whether to "keep it alive" or not.

But don't expect an expansion, any extra development or "nice to haves" ... DDO is going nowhere near any of that. Some people prefer not to put their money into something that is going nowhere. That's the basis for the post.

It could have 25 subs for all I care. As long as they keep it running, they will gladly have my money.

If you don't want to put your money into something you feel is going nowhere, fine. I believe the game is going somewhere and the development Turbine have put into the game over the 2 years I have played gives me the confidence to keep investing in the game.

You must not leave until you free Arlos and have gathered your party safely in this hallway.

Turbine stated in a mmorpg interview DDO was making a profit. Also "nice to haves", nice try. DX10 and Hirelings are very nice "nice to haves".

And many thanks to you know who, for reporting another post, what a .
