Since a large amount of gamers out there are skeptical about darkfall, myself included, I was wondering if there is any kind of marketing in europe for this game if its available for preorder or anything like that. the launch on the 22nd is officially the european launch with the NA launch sometime after that even though NA players are welcomed to join th EU( which seems ridiculous to me). I have lots of doubts on this game but I think signs of this happening in europe would at least calm some of the hate posts. so anyone know or have valid proof of that cause if not then something is totally off. Ive never heard of a game 10 days away from launch and not offering preorders, advertising, or anything

pre-ordering an MMO is a bad idea.

Hello sensible person who expects normal things from an MMO company before launch. I'd like you to meet Aventurine. They give a big "F you" to you and your expectations because they're giving very little information (even vital information), no preorders (which is a debated point), and no other signs that the game will launch successfully. Better yet, you have people agreeing and praising their decisions.

A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"
Order of the White Border.

The game is targeted for EU release on 22 Jan 2009. But they market it like its a ghost game.
There is no solid info about it as of yet.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...

Here's a prefix lesson.
Over = well, that means too much. Funcom overhyped their game.
Under = that means not enough. Aventurine is underhyping their game - in fact, 100% of the hype is being generated by the future playerbase, which means that if the game fails, it'll be partly their fault for getting their expectations (and the expectations of others) far too high. You won't have a company to fall back on like WAR trolls blaming Mythic (Paul Barnett). To add insult to injury, Aventurine isn't even giving vital information which is NOT hyping at all.

I already do doubt aventurine but since im from NA I cant honestly say whether its different in EU as far as marketing and what not and maybe someone might know differently
I wouldn't because the info you are asking for I haven't even looked at with previous games until I actually started making moves to purchase them.
Some of the things people are asking for I still don't know about games I played for years.
I wasn't uninformed because I checked it when I was buying the game. Can you fill in the blanks in this question as an experiment: "I need to know ...... before release because ....... and I would not be able to do this after the game has released because ........."
I'm sure you will able to come of something, lets see how far fetched it is though.

what game hasn't released even MINOR system specs 10 days prior to release?
I think the only thing we know it 18GB of data.

Templarga, I've already examined Blodpls' stance on this lack of information. He cannot grasp the concept of principle or consumer standards because he doesn't believe in them, and he assumes everyone else does not or should not as well. Don't even try.

It really only matters for those that want to get the game on the day it Releases.
Obviously if you're planning on waiting a good 30 or so days after Release then yeah... it won't be a big deal that they don't have the information out right now.
For some though they like to be the first people in the game so they can possibly get an advantage over those that pick up the game later.
For those people if all that information isn't provided until the day of Release... they will potentially be slowed down by then needing to read and research the information and then make an informed decision.
If that information was available right now, they could spend this time between now and the Release date doing whatever research they felt was necessary before deciding to buy the game.
I plan on waiting for a few weeks... maybe a couple months... until I get a chance to read some reviews of Beta testers and those who have bought the game at Release.
I just don't think there will be enough time left for me to get an adequate test of it for myself even if they do provide an Open Beta now. Now if they allow a Free Trial on the 22nd as well... that might work. But since we haven't heard any info on that either... I'd be pretty surprised if they offered it.
"I need to know the above before release because..... Aventurine is asking me to pay for a product I have questions about and want to know the financial details about...... and I would not be able to do this after the game has released because......sure, I will be able to find the information but I would like this information to make up my mind to play or not. its about treating your customer as the customer and let them know they matter to you."
Thats your answer? Thats a bit on the weak side tbh.
I'm not saying you don't have a right to the information, when it is for sale I would expect them to provide it. Until then it is only the case that it would be nice of them to provide it. It is not needed by any strech of the imagination as people keep insisting.
Hehe I know that's why people want it, I'm glad somebody admitted it.
Do not expect preorders, devs did state many times that they do not like them and they want players to try the game before buying. As of advertising goes, they did zero of it and I doubt this will change until after release.
The information that is available via leaks and reviews and such speaks about the game being close to what devs were describing and are overall very positive with some negative things (mainly graphics/animation). However it seems that not all features are in game yet so I personally would expect either postponement of some of these or delayed launch.
As of now there is no real negative information about the game, but these forums are very negative, and it is like this for several years. The negative posters have nothing of substance aside from "this is not known" and "this is not done" and "i know that the games must be made like I say". It always has been like this, only the requirements for them to shut up are always raising when the previous ones are fulfilled. It only depends on you if you will believe these people or not. I personally think that waiting few more days does not kill anyone and as long as noone wants our money, all is fine. If the game sucks or is postponed, too bad; when it is on we will see whether it is any good.

I'd just settle for the NDA being dropped so that the bulk of the few hundred Beta Testers can give a proper review without the threat of the NDA hanging over their heads.
IF the game is truly as you say... then there shouldn't be any reason to keep the NDA up... right?
I can state there is no marketing in England, also I've never seen any marketing on the internet apart from forum posts, the occasional news update and video compilation on youtube. Yet even from this silence Darkfall Online has managed to get a bigger interest than any other MMO release (potential release) I have ever seen. Whatever they have done to create this interest they should bottle and sell... obviously alongside the DFO game of course.
Its funny but how could any game live up to the desperate hope and interest being placed upon it? Maybe thats why they are being silent, they hope we will go away and leave them to launch quietly without fuss and crazed hype. On the other hand it could be an amazing marketing campaign that will be mimmicked for years to come... Who knows... Roll on the 22nd (my fingers are crossed).
