I've never been one to post about games and try to encourange other players to play them, but in this case I think I could be onto a really decent game that should'nt go unnoticed. I've been looking for a game for aaages now, I came across this one at one of those MMO listing sites. Since I'd pretty much tried everything else I thought I'd give it a whirl. I was pleasantly suprised.
The game offers players a sandbox world with the added feature of being able to design you're own piece of he map (through an included map editor that reminded me of a basic version of the NWN mod program). Once your map is created, a deed can be bought of a vendor and your piece of territory can be uploaded.
The other things that struck me right away were the graphics and animations, the quests (the ones I have tried so far) and the community.
The graphics are far beyond what alot of 2d games are currently offering. Everything looks amazing, characters are well animated and the enviroment is lush and full of life.
The quests that I have done so far have been a breath of fresh air. My favourite so far has to be one that a higher level player helped me with. To increase my strength there is a special fruit one can eat, grown only by carnivorous plants in a certain dungeon. To get the fruit we had to lead swarms of bees to the plants so that they feed and their flowers could bloom. Once we had fed the plants enough bees we had to defend the fruit from other hungry creatures until it ripened and we could eat it. Alot more interesting that the usual "kill x number of x creature" quests.
The community is also a drawing point for this game. Everytime I have logged in so far I have had higher level players find me and help me out with learning the ropes, and showing me cool spots etc. I have never asked for any help, it has always been offered.
Oh something else that I forgot to mention is the magic and effects. I got to see my first real "magic show" in the game yesterday when I was asking another player what kinds of spells are available. The spells and effects are spectacular.
So if this sounds like your cup of tea, then head over to www.linkrealms.com and give it a go.

Hmm it does look interesting so I bookmarked it to try later. Also it looks like its rendered in 3D with a fixed viewpoint (isometric) so I wouldn't call it just 2D.
You might not post games for others to play much, but this one has actually piqued my interest. Definately one i'll keep in mind.
im downloading this game atm. the gameplay video looked so cool. but i have to say that their website needs a bit more polishing but its still in beta so i guess its fine
maaan... this game is verryy niceee... stayed up to 2:30am playing it
the controls are a bit hard to get used to at first though, and it has a very steep learning curve,
but the community is the best and will help out just as the op said
i think i finally found my game. thanks to the op for the intro of this mmo
beta is closed.
I second the rest of you. The game does indeed look fun! I will have to wait until they offer more accounts until I can register to play the CB though.

One of the limits they face is they don't currently have a tutorial but just a couple of people that lead newbies through some tasks newcomers need to know how to do. This limits how many newbies they can handle at any time. They have just one programmer too.
Thats no limit to me trying it....I'
ll give it a shot. I like new sandbox attempts.
I signed up, downloaded the game ( 100 mb) and got into beta.
Although I have only been playing for a short while, I liked the fact that a staff member was there, greeted me, showed me around, and gave me a basic intro about the game. This was something that was very unique to me ( honestly I thought it was just a npc at first then soon realized it was an actual person , lol ) but that left me with a very positive feeling.
The game is still Beta, but there are plenty spots open right now. The game has a NDA , so I can't get into any details . If your bored and looking for a new game to play ,check it out for yourself.
Uninstalling...interesting.
the game is cool ....................................but the ppl are a-s hole no 1 will help you in game name is chris606
The community is fairly small at the moment as the game has just opened, but there will be alot of people that help you out.
Try putting * in front of your chat and ask for help in the global channel.
Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Final Fantasy 7
Chris, Ike here.
Dude, that was a pretty harsh post man. Everyone in the game is willing to help new players (even other new players). You never ask for help or you would have been swarmed by people willing to answer any and all questions you had.
Like the person said before me, use the global chat to ask questions and they will be answered.
Just type a * before you type your questions and everyone will see it in game.
This game sounds awesome :0
Graphically it reminds me of a cross between Diablo and Mythos, plus I like the way the equipment works and the skill system. Are you able to choose your own class paths? Like say I wanted to be a mage that can also shoot a bow, could I do it?
There are no classes only skills and 'ability' pools. If you work on one of the magics that skill goes up. If you don't, it won't. One thing unique about Link Realms is the ability not only to increase a skill but you can also decrease them. Or lock them in. If you work on your Severing skill but later think you want in improve your Marksmanship skill you can choose to decrease your Severing skill while those points are redirected to the Marksmanship skill as you use the Marksmanship skill.
There are also different skill point pools. Magic skills are in a different skill point pool than weaponry skills.

Yeah thats kind of what I mean. Being able to create something structured to your own needs. Certainly sounds great anyway.
I just found this game last night. I think for ex UO players/fans....it's VERY very worth looking in to. I'm having a blast playing it. It reminds me a lot of UO.
One thing that totally surprised me was the community that already seems to exist there. And on top of that....I was greated upon logging in for the first time, by a REAL person who helped me learn the basics and showed me around. Honestly...this was SO unusual, I initially thought it was a bot! I thought, "Wow....this is pretty exceptional A.I. for a 2D game!" LOL
Anyway, suffice it to say....I was completely absorbed for HOURS and I cannot WAIT to log back in when I wake up. Alas it is now time for me to rest my head and stop thinking about whether or not I juiced enough tomatoes for tomorrow adventures! hehehe
Seriously though....if you liked UO and you like crafting and skill based games, where you can define your characters skills and class yourSELF....very worth checking out.

Either you didn't play the same game I just signed in to, or they have changed things IMMENSELY. I had a GM and a couple of players running around with me all night long and they were all VERY nice and VERY helpful.

I resent that overtly SEXIST implication. First of all, when you're gaming there is no way you can know anyones gender, secondly, I logged in again TODAY and there were even MORE people on and every one of them was helpful and considerate. I only saw a couple of "guides" today, most were players/testers. And yet....all of them were nice.
I think you guys are all just too used to WoW's community, and other similar communities made up of 12 year old horny boys. What do you expect? (How's that for meeting your sexism with sexism?)

Apparently, someone else can vouch for there being a REASON for the guidance I got, OTHER than the fact that I'm female. Note the above post?

Is the game strictly a dungeon crawl, or are there open areas also?
Also, I guess I didn't look hard enough, but what is the sub model? Paid or f2p?
Thanks,
Ion
I have been checking back on this website for weeks, and everytime I check, the registration is closed. Arghhh! I loved UO and Wurm Online, so I am really anxious to give this one a go.
There are dungeons and open areas, and it's f2p. People are running around doing all kinds of things, PvP'ers are having discussions eveywhere, with the admins who are actually in game talking to people, etc. There are "guides" that help everyone get acquainted with the UI and where things are and it's just...really COOL! I'm just so tickled I found this, I'm completely giddy! lol It's sort of like what UO would have been like if it had ever "grown up."
This is the kind of open sandbox fun that I have been MISSING for years now. I don't know much of anything about who made it, it seems to have fallen from heaven, for ME. I don't know where it came from, how long it's been around, or anything, but I'm just really glad I stumbled on to it.
Honestly, Ionselon...just download it and try it. It would be a lot more fun for you to do that, than for any of us to try to explain it. There's an AWFUL lot of detail to explaining just how much freedom you have in it. I haven't been able to do this many things or make this many decisions about "who" I'm going to be "in game" LITERALLY since Ultima Online.

dang!, registering now is closed :-(
