So, it's like the people at hellgate all coming from blizzard and therefore having the talent and management skills and vision to create the next great Diablo?
If old games like UO, Asheron's call and EQ are around then WoW will most assuredly be around just due to the number of players.

First of all they do miss some important people. like Jeff Strain who programmed most of the GFX engine and made the interface. He and 2 other of the top programmers splitted long before Wow even launched, their upcomming game Guildwars 2 is releasing in a year or so and will surely get a lot of players.
Secondly I don't think there even will be one top game and the rest of the games so far behind in the future. Wow was not only a good game but it released perfect in timing, people were really tired of EQ but since EQ2 was so bad at launch, 2004-2005 we only saw 2 good games, Wow and Guildwars. Guildwars still sold more than 5 million but never been close to Wow.
There are many intresting upcoming games competing for the players. Also Hellgate London showed us that earlier succes doesn't mean you automaticly make a good game.
And there is another question: Do people really want a Wow 2.0? People who really love Wow will probably continue with wow for many years. People who just like it can just as well get a totaly different game.
There will be a time when Blizzard makes a Wow2, so far they have made sequels to all their good selling games, but that is still 5 years into the future or they would just compete with themselves.
But yes, Wow type games will be around but there is actually nothing saying that the next big game(s) will be close to Wow, every other game that is close to Wow have very few players. The other 2 top MMOs (according to X-fire at least) are Guildwars and Eve, yeah none of them are close to Wow but they are still a lot higher than WAR or LOTRO.
Personally I think the next big game(s) will be very different from Wow, lik CCPs "World of darkness online" or Biowares "The old republic". Guildwars 2 and Bethesdas upcoming MMO is also worth a look. If studio 38s game will be very close to Wow I doubt they make a big game, if however they think out of the box and use 40% wow and the rest new stuff they could make a big hit, only time will tell.
So basically you're arguing that Curt Schilling's game is going to dominate the market even though we haven't the slightest clue what it will be about? That strikes me as rather strange.
another thing that also made me say this is on their website they had A TON of funding because of the recent history with WoW which doesnt always mean much (WAR) but they also said with that they were trying to hire top notch people so that probably will get this game atleast in the top MMO's in the future but only time can tell
and ive relized a lot about MMO's in the past few years the art design is the most important thing out of all of them and that is why i think WAR didnt become more main stream because it will kind of depressing art style.
Blizzard is making a new MMO themselves...
I don't see what you are arguing for. Blizzard can release anything and people will buy EVEN after they say 'I don't want to buy it' (Burning Crusade anyone?)
I wouldn't say art desing is most important but it does have to allow the player to immerse himself/herself in the game.
If a person is just writhing because of the images that he sees then no matter how good the gameplay is that player won't last too long. However, that is subjective.

The second best selling MMO ever is Guildwars and it costed peanuts to make. WAR and AoC costed a lot and didn't even come close.
And millions of people are playing different Warhammer games, the reason it didn't sold so well was because it was too close to wow, pissing of the old Warhammer fans (like me). If you ever played the pen and paper RPG you would know what I am talking about. Besdides AoC looks awesome and are not doing well either.
Blizzard knew what their fans wanted with Wow, Mythic didn't knew what their fans and the GW fans wanted, they aimed instead for the Wow fans and that was a misstake. WAR isn't a bad game but it is just a shadow of what it could have been. This doesn't prove that Blizz next game will be a huge succes however, only time can tell that.
Guild Wars was low-budget?! Do you have a source on that? I always thought it had the look and feel of a big-budget game. It's certainly quite polished.
People bought WAR and AoC also, the question is if they will stay? Blizzard will not only compete with all the other new games, they will compete with themselves also.
It is not at all impossible that Wow will keep most of it's players even after Blizzards next game releases. It surely will bleed slowly in any case but it really have a load of players so a million down a year is not really a big deal for the next 5 years.
The question is if the players are Blizzard fans or Wow fans, the Wow fans can as well stay with the game they love and invested years in.
It is really impossible to tell, we don't even know what the game is yet. And past succes doesn't really mean future succes also, just look on Matrix 2 or Blair witch project 2, both sequels who never sold even close to the first movies. We just have to wait and see.
Personally I think the next big game(s) will be very different from Wow, lik CCPs "World of darkness online" or Biowares "The old republic". Guildwars 2 and Bethesdas upcoming MMO is also worth a look.
No one game will kill WoW. WoW won't die, people will play it until the servers shut down. This dude is correct, it will be a numbers of games that each pull a segment of WoW's population away, not 1 killer app.
Guess OP saw: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n75H5SpegbI ?
Something will eventually take over WoW's spot because technology progresses and nothing lasts forever. However it may be another blizzard game or it may be something from left field. Proclamations of WoWs death mean zero. It's like saying the Model-T Ford won't last for ever. So what? I'll bet it won't be studio 38 just because statically it will probably be another company.
Does it really matter? I'd much rather talk about further advances in MMOs whether its WoW or some other game, perhaps you could start a new thread to talk about Studio 38 instead of "OMG STUDIO 38's NEW GAME WHICH ISNT OUT YET > WOW".
Plenty of games have the potential to "beat WoW" (I for one believe love will), but once you start selling it as a WoW-killer, it may as well just be WoW.
Well then, let's start the trolling. It's a vaporware WoW-clone.
You know what game will beat WoW?
Blizzards next unnamed MMO.
-------------------------
In next 50 years you will see only succesfull mmo's like wow becouse about 90% of mmo community wants easy themepark mode so its eather blizzard themselfs that will stay on top or other company with same vision and get attention from many and deliver a perfect easy mode themepark mmo.
It seems ToR or GW2 at moment, can be posible candidates thats reality, of todays mmo market.
So no chance for next 50 years:P
Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009.....
In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.
Nothing will kill WoW, but time. I don't know how many games were supposed to be the next EQ killer. It seemed like every month there was some new game in development that was going to be the EQ killer. Most of them didn't come close to living up to the pre-release hype. and I don't think that will ever change. In the end, there was no EQ killer, not even EQ2. Time and the increase of more and more MMO's gradually strip players away in different directions. Over time the same will happen with WoW. Actually it is happening now, and will continue happening. By 2012, I'm sure a lot of things will have happened to lower WoW's player base and, in the end, I don't think any one game will be able to take credit for WoW's demise.
Curt Shilling wearing a Steeler's jersey??? TRAITOR!!!
It's gonna have to be one helluva mmo if he expects me to buy it with that display just now.
Well if 2012 is the year of the end of WoW...I agree...the world is supposed to end in 2012. So I guess any MMO company that is gonna wait till then to come out, will miss out.
Whats funny is Curt Schilling used to always promote EQ and EQII. He'd even wear a EQII hat at press conferences after games. The youtube clip showed him playing WoW.
We'll see how his game does. This is his company's first attempt and they're investing in the most expensive genre in the market. Must be nice to have millions of dollars to make your own MMO!

Well that is true, but 38 has all MVP "All-Star" Devs from other compenys. But who knows it sounds sweet and i hope it will rock. But you never know.
Playing: Everthing
Played: DAoC,AC2,EvE,SWG,WAR,MXO,CoX,EQ2,L2,LOTRO,SB,UO,WoW.
I have played every MMO that has ever come out.
I don't think WoW's going anywhere for a while.
It's successor will have to be as exceptional as WoW was when it was first released back in 2004. All of these new MMO's in development are either catering to niche markets like PvP, RvR, etc or are destined to fail because they're just trying to make a slightly better WoW.
They seem to overlook that WoW players who have been loyal to the game for several years aren't going to be happy with a niche title that limits their gameplay options, and aren't going to jump ship to a slightly-better-WoW because that would mean losing all the time that they have already invested in their character(s) and leaving a community that likely dates back several years.
The more time that passes without an exceptional alternative to WoW, the harder and harder it is for people to leave it and give other MMO's serious consideration.
Playing: EVE, Final Fantasy 13, Uncharted 2, Need for Speed: Shift
Why would I want WOW 2.0?
Aren't 300+ fantasy MMO's enough?
38 studios, kurt schillings company with the creator of spawn and r.a. salvatore. I dont know what kind of game that will be. I hope its not another wow clone. Wow clones are really bad. We need a new mmo, with some EQ features! Such as, community, challenging, immersion. If my idea ever gets there (prolly not but one can hope), it will not be no wow clone at all!
Well of course he's going to talk up the quality of people working on his game. That's just part of hyping a game.
