Might help to get directed feedback if you state what class, level and what content you've seen thus far.

...The spread of secondary and latterly of tertiary education has created a large population of people, often with well developed literary and scholarly tastes, who have been educated far beyond their capacity to undertake analytical thought.

Basically it boils down to this:  The hate is generated because the game used to be based around a skill point system, where players were given a certain allotment of skill points to spend wherever they wanted in the various given professions...a crafter could very well be a capable marksman if he wanted to be...then came the NGE, which "simplified" the game by narrowing it down to a more typical class system where the "iconic" star wars classes, such as jedi, bounty hunter, commando, etc, were represented, and much of the mechanics that some people found fun about the old classes were removed (much of which has been put back into the game, such as beast mastery which now functions as both the old beast mastery profession as well as bio engineer)

Personally, I would have been extremely pissed if I was playing my master bounty hunter one day (that's what I was at the time that I quit the game about a year after launch) and the next I was told "okay you are now a level 60 bounty hunter, go level up to 90...your expensive top of the line armor is now only sorta okay for your level, and your weapons will need to be replaced.

Of course, it wouldn't have taken me two years to get over that sense of being pissed off...since the game is now largely devoid of the bugs that caused me to quit in the first place (though it still has a few quirks that I find annoying)   But hey, I'm a reasonable person, I don't hold on to a video game grudge for longer than a few weeks.

Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

Here we go... Bashing SWG over something that happened 3 years ago.

    WHAT A SURPRISE.

The current game is actually good. Glad you enjoy it, OP.

If you're on Starsider, hit me up on Arkavius. If you ever need help, I'll totally oblige.

If by content you mean endless, meaningless collections and cookie-cutter instances. But even with those things it's just another linear, level-based WoW wannabe. It has no depth.

These would be my "new guy" thoughts if I had played the game today and never before.

Melee enemies teleport to you when you start shooting them.

No fear of death as you loose nothing and its like free ride back to town after a mission.

Combat and animations seems to be on fast-forward and glitchy.

Stats and armor have no clear meaning.

Enemy aggro is on delay? They notice you 5-15 seconds after you ran by them?

To hazard a guess, SOE runs this game, that is what is wrong with it.

At this point nothing is wrong with this game, atleast no more than any other games out there. Sure I miss the 32 pofession we had before, but thats the only thing I miss. At this point I would consider quiting if they rolled back the game to what it was 4 years ago because the game is so much better now. Ideally I'd like to see the skill/profession system return, but to the current game. Honestly pre-nge was a mindless buggy grind.

The game is not better now than it was pre-CU. It's just not.

What I've never understood is why didn't more of you go to Anarchy Online? It's the only other game with a skill based system in an SF setting, with the arguable exception of Ryzom.

I first became interested in that game because the grand SF architecture mixed with adobe etc in a rural setting reminded me of Star Wars, and the atmosphere had a melancholy to it which for me is one thing that set Star Wars aside from other SF movies & TV. I never got that from SWG; to me it had the vibe of Jedi Knight + Asheron's Call.

I barely played SWG, so this might be an unfair assessment but I'm taking all praise of its old skill system on faith: It may have involved choices, specialization, and deep planning - but by all accounts it was less demanding than AO's system, which involves skill based equp requirements, equip buffs which feed back into the abilites those skills derive from, skills which trickle into each other, and a process of skill buff implant loadout design which both relies on and feeds back to all of those factors.

I'm not trying to hate on SWG (in fact I'm trying it for the fourth time; I came here to ask where the hell is everyone and how do I find people to talk to & party with) but there are other games out there that might make you guys happy enough to at least get your mind off the CU & NGE.

Forum performance art is the game that took our minds off the CU and NGE.

    Anarchy Online isn't a sandbox.

The much shorter list would be what is right with the game.

Which more or less is limited to JTL and the space game.  And the biggest reason for this is that the nincompoops who are running this thing refuse to touch it, if they did they'd destroy it.

The only reason the space game is still fun is that the current group of developers doesn't know enough about the JtL code to screw it up like they did with the rest of the game.

When they did the space chapter and added the new space zone they actually had to go to the pilot forum community for help in figuring things out.

Better is a MATTER OF OPINION. I personally agree with you that it's NOT better. But you cannot define better for someone else. You just can't.

So I started to walk into the water. I won't lie to you boys...I was terrified. But I pressed on, and as I made my way past the breakers, a strange calm came over me. I don't know if it was divine intervention or the kinship of all living things, but I tell you, Jerry, at that moment ... I was a marine biologist.

I know some people use narrow definitions of sandbox, but this is a little much. What you say is only true insofar as a quest system was added to the game and plays a big part in the content from the first expansion. (I played the game for years without partaking of that.) There is no progression system to speak of, and the pvp setup actually discourages leveling. Most people spend their time in uninstanced dungeons or randomly generated missions, on safari hunts out wherever in the world they please, or in town crafting & selling buffs. Some people literally focus on one of these things to the exclusion of all else.

One thing I've never seen in AO - never - is somebody complaining that they couldn't complete a task or that they were tired of any activity with the exception of farming tradeskill components. If a game that requires nothing of you to progress, and places no restrictions on how you may progress or even whether you must, doesn't not qualify as a sandbox by your definition, what exactly does?

I bought the game a year ago now. I made a medic. I reached level 38 or so healing nobody. not the first time, never. I grouped 2 or 3 times. I killed a lot. I made a medic cose I like healing peeps in groups, not killing, healing. Yeah 3 months later I left. Really a pity, the game looked good.

Yes it is. AO is not a linear game. You can go anywhere you want on the map, you dont have to do linear quest to gain xp. You can grind monster or simply do random mission. I have to admit now they have implanted some quest to follow but still this is not a linear game like WOW or others.

Here's an example of what kind of bugs i ran into. while doing one of my daily terminal mission .. for some unknown reason it decided to place the target that i needed to destroy right in the middle of some one's house. well.. need less to say.. i try going around it see if i can hit it .. but to no avail.. i got a couple of this and now my character cant take anymore terminal mission to do his daily 10 compnor mission run. i had this on petition for a week now.. and still waiting for soe's great customer support.

There aren't any customer support people working at SWG any longer. The wardens are able to squelch credit sellers and anti-SOE elements in-game but that's about it.

I like SWG for its unique features. The different crafting and the awesome housing system and player city system for example.

But saying there are no bugs? Combat is bugged like hell. Line of sight issues (shooting through walls, no line of sight when a mob is standing behind a foot high rock etc) .

Pathing issues:  droids behaviour with elevators in pve bunkers, ridiculous running speeds from mobs,  falling through canopy level and webweaver path on ryatt trail.

Crafting still has experiment lines that are obsolete, bugged colouring palettes.

I would never play SWG just for the combat. Its funny that when I started playing Anarchy Online again after SWG, I noticed how nice it is to be able to use line of sight in your advantage (every engineer knows what I mean here ).

Still, Ive played it for a couple of years on and of because its Star Wars and has some great features. For this reason I also probably didnt mind the bugs that much. But when you start playing a different MMO you suddenly realise how it can be without those bugs.

Oh, and most of these bugs (and many more) were already present in preCU.
