Do you think You'll get into DarkFall Beta?

Random_mageRandom_mage Member UncommonPosts: 1,093

I don't think I'll get in. I think the selection will be on par with the supposed "closed beta" selection or the Journalist Beta (that's funny).

What do you think?

Considering I don't post on their forums I highly doubt I will get into beta. I will be pre ordering tho.

I'll be waiting at least until the first reviews or the first content patch.

Not even going to bother with trying to get into beta. No way in hell most folks are getting in.

Also NOT pre-ordering something I have never seen.

No, because I didn't sign up for it.  Beta doesn't interest me.

Zero chance...I think they will only let in a very small amount and probably choose that from the pool they already have.

You might want to reword this to say "Free Trial". It is only speculation that it will be an Open Beta.

The way I read it, and based on past experiences, I would say it will be for a select few (yes, I consider 1-10k  out of 300k+  a few) who will be let into the "Free Trial".

Like a lot of folks like to say, what's another month (year, decade) to wait for release when it can only make the game better?

According to Tasos' update the only that will change with the 22nd is that there is supposed to be a way for a limited number of people to start downloading a release candidate of the game for free.

Depending on how many they actually let do that downloading... will depend on how soon they are able to begin playing.   It will be interesting to see what kind of download speeds the majority of them experience.

It will also be interesting to see how many (if any) from NA are able to participate in this limited free trial.  I'm watching to see what happens with the NDA.  If it stays up past the 22nd... that will say volumes to me.

i doubt i will be getting into beta, i have been in most beta's and i can say even though i registered, there is probably 0 chance of me getting in or there actually being an open beta. And whoever said they are going to preorder without trying it first needs ti seriously rethink that.....

If an OB starts on the 22nd (which is extremely unlikely) then it will be a very small number of people; probably just a roll-over of the current Beta testers. There is still clearly a lot of work still to be done on DF and rather than risk any more damaging leaks, Tasos would probably prefer to not let any more people in at this stage, but still make it appear that they are progressing towards release.

Well since there is still no word about where to download the clietn which many have speculated will be by bit torrent and about 15-18 gigs, I don't see anyone new getting in (ie new playing) on the 22nd.

I would be very surprised to find a beta invitation in my mail considering the fact that i didn't bother to apply for it in the first place....

I haven't heard Tasos mention anything about stress tests yet, which is one of the more worrying issues with the development. A stress is tens of thousands of people, not a few hundred or thousand.

do i have to quote it and shove it down yoru throat AGAIN

this is what being said to stress test oyur serevrs you need 10 of thousand it was jsut easyer to says thousands

Starting on January 22nd there will be a Darkfall trial with the distribution of the release candidate client allowing thousands of players to sample the game for free, help us stress test our servers and test the final features of the game.

well this sounds like we wont get the client until the 22nd anyways

When i signed up for the beta, it asked for a DXdiag.

So, if Tasos is asking for highend computers to run his game, then i should be in for sure.

    GTX 280 btw.

But, i signed up late, so who knows.

Is english your second language?  I'm thinking Greek is your first?  I usually don't criticize spelling, but you really make it even hard to understand what you are trying to say.

No way there is going to be an 'open' free trial or beta on the 22nd.  More than likely it will be the exact same people who are in the current 'beta' and they will just change the name to 'free trial'.  There will still be a NDA for them, and gaming sites will also not be part of the new 'free trial'.  So in essence, everything will be exactly the way it is now.

it all depends on the torrent. Those with alot of seeders and not alot of peers attached will of course have a quick dl time. but you gotta remember, how many people have the client to seed? none. so you will start of with a few, but at the same time the more leachers you have, the slower its going to go, and alot slower, since most people cap their upload speed. So yes, the download of this client is going to take you quite a few days.

There won't really be an open beta. Tasos says he'll let people online on the 22nd, but I bet no one here or anyone that anybody knows will get in. With an NDA in place, Tasos can say there's people, lots of people, in the Beta, and no one could prove him wrong, because the lack of beta leaks and etc could be pointed towards the NDA. When in fact, there is 0 people in the beta and this is all a scam to get people thinking they could have gotten in, but weren't fast enough.

The end result is people believing he actually let people in in the first place, and that they just missed it, when he didn't let anyone in at all and is just saying he did to get people to believe the game is real. Why would he do this? To maximize the amount of Pre-Orders. The more people that believe they actually had a chance to get into beta on the 22nd, the more that will believe there is enough of a game to Pre-order.

I hope I'm wrong, but Tasos hasn't given me any reason to be confident in their game. I've been the MMO scams before and this one smells like one. Whether or not it is remains to be seen, and I really hope it's not, because DF is everything I want in a game. I guess we'll see.

What's funny is that using common sense judgement, I knew the game wouldn't release on the 22nd of January before December even ended. How did I know? Because there wasn't one lick of official, press breaking, information that every other legitimate MMORPG has 1 month from release.

I voted for the third option, since the free trial isn't an open beta.

I'm aware that a handful of users who registered in the past 48 hours are again experiencing this issue, I'll post here again when it is resolved.

    and

The error should be resolved, as usual please utilize the forgot password function if you have been getting the "incorrect username/pw" when registering for beta.

Per Tasos's Darkfall Release Schedule post on January 15th, 2009:

Starting on January 22nd there will be a Darkfall trial with the distribution of the release candidate client allowing thousands of players to sample the game for free, help us stress test our servers and test the final features of the game.

It’s important to understand that there are well over 200 thousand applications by players wanting to get into Darkfall. This number makes it unrealistic to distribute the client and to open up our servers to everyone. We’ll try to accommodate as many players as are possible for us to manage at this stage. Even so, the demand exceeds our current capacity. Interest in Darkfall has surpassed all our expectations to the point that we may need to manage our release differently.

Based on those comments, we can surmise the following

    •  The free trial is neither public, nor open.   Instead, it's essentially a closed beta.  Aventurine is still actively accepting beta applications, has limited slots available and is managing the invitation process.

    • The client will not be made available for public downloading

    • Since the free trial is esentially a closed beta, there's a possibility that an NDA will be enforced
