I just rejoined SWG in a vet trail the other day. I moved both my accounts to Bria. Yes the population is higher but that isn't the problem.
The main problem and the only one worth mentioning is COMBAT
It is still slow, boring and still broken to no end. I have a level 82 Jedi spec'd out as a Dark Jedi for DPS. Unfortunately you get your butt handed to you by stuff lower level then you are. There is still bugs around from the first day that the CU/NGE went live such as getting stuck where you cannot attack anything unless you restart the client.
The game is pure crap still. The only good thing I have found so far is that house decorating has been fixed to make it alot easier to decorate again. If I wanted to play SWG for pure home decorating purposes then this game would be the best on the market. However, SWG is about a struggle between good and evil and unfortunately it fails horribly in that department.
I will not resubscribe after the vet trial period is over with.

Your issues sound more an issue of not being familliar with how the game works now. You'll want to look at getting your self some clothing statted by a tailor to improve the performance of your character and it would also aid you to visit an entertainer at a Cantina (probably Eisley) to pickup a buff to also boost your abilities.
Your issue with not being attack sounds a little odd - my guess is you're using the default twitch based targetting system where you need to hold the mouse over the target to continue attacking it. What colour and icon is your cursor when you're attacking MOBs?
The stat stuff you talk about for clothing cost a fortune.. Till I can sell alot of the vet rewards I have that won't happen. However I just find it hilarious that the game we had before where we had tons of buffs was changed so you supposedly didn't need buffs back to needing buffs to do anything. Kinda ironic don't you think

On Chilastra at least, a Tailor should be able to get you set up with a full suit of clothing and the attachments to go with them for usually no more then 10mil. Of course, this isn't magically going to make you invincible, you're still going to need to spend some time getting used to the way combat works, what specials do what, etc.
I wouldn't consider the above to be buffs, this would fall under the "gear" category imo BYou don't need buffs to do everything in the game, but for someone new to the current systems they'll certainly make learning the game easier without worrying about death as often
Well unless I sell those vet rewards 10 million is totally out of the question. Don't you think prices like that will keep new players from joining knowing they will need MILLIONS just to be able to compete in the game?
I remember when 100,000 credits was considered a lot and there were only a handful of millionaires on any given server.
The current SWG economy is a joke. I have to wonder if the same people who run the federal reserve are moonlighting as game developers for SWG.
Okay, this made me laugh out loud.. Thanks Damicatz
I also agree with you. It is outrageous what things cost in SWG now. Oh and if your theory is right that would also explain the fiasco that happened to a once beloved game.

Not really. There is a lot of time involved for the tailor to make those attachments for your suit. You could even lower the cost by supplying said tailor with the stated loot they'll need to make the components for your attachments. Making 10mil isn't really all that hard and you don't need to sell your vet rewards to get them.
Just like pre-nge, you just need to get caught up with what's in demand by crafters and others. Sticking with the stated loot, people on Chilastra will pay up to 500k per +25 item you provide. Considering you usually need at least 30 peices for a full set of attachments, you could make 15mil just from that alone. There's plenty of other examples I could provide that would help you earn your credits. You just have to be prepared to do some work for them

Once again we are back to square one. To get those loot items I must be able to kill something. However stuff my level and below me kick my butt in a matter of seconds with me doing little to no damage. See how this game is screwed.
Oh well I will just play interior decorator on my house for 26 days and let the vet trial go to the wayside thanks for your input though.

If you're not prepared to learn the new combat system then no, you're not going to succed at it You will die a bit in the beginning while you essentially learn how to play again but I'm pretty sure you'll get to the point where you find yourself coping with those NPCs with no problem, especially as a Dark Jedi. There are alot of good guides on the Jedi forum that will walk you through setting up your Jedi, your expertise, etc. If you truly want to give the game a good go, I suggest reading those and getting to know your profession again.
It's not an issue of not being familiar with how the game works, its an issue with being totally familiar with how the game doesn't work, and the game doesn't work on a lot of levels now. It is still a crappy, bug ridden game, no matter how the viralers spin it.
Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.

That is not the issue here at all.
Well, Jedi is one of the more solofriendly professions. Fighting same lvl elite mobs shouldnt prove a problem for you, except maybe elites that use AoE attacks like Dark Sun.
Lot of returning players dont realise that the stats of some robes and cloaks have been improved a lot. If you dont have triple 35 statted tailored clothes, then a Cloak of the Kursk or Stormcaller is weak compared to the normal Jedi Knight robe for example. A lot of players somehow dont compare suits statwise, but just assume that the cloak variant is simply stronger.
Also getting a 5th gen sabre to replace the 4th gen, makes a nice difference. The single handed 5th gen is not that difficult to obtain. Maybe you should check your expertise window again for a more suited build.
I also agree with you that combat is bugged like hell, but not in a way that makes it unplayable. Apart from shooting through the walls, its mainly bugged about how its presented. Lot of longterm players though seem to get blind if it comes to bugs (TCPrime regular folk are the exception to this in my experience).
Oh, also dont get blinded by the importance of attachments. A buff from an entertainer tailored for your profession + food buff makes a lot more of a difference then the attachments ever will make.
I just wonder about one thing when I see a topic like this and thats: didn't you put any effort into the game when you started it the first time, my second question would be: Do you not know how much the game is changed which should be logical to NOT asume your old character will play the way you are used to it.
Okay I will admit that I also feel prices are on the high side, but I know for a fact that as a player you have the power to change that. I mean if eventually me as a crafter/trader was able to beat equell lvl'd mobs/creatures at my return in 2007, I bet someone with a combat proffesion IF that person is a gamer will put in some effort to once again get to know the game.
And NO you do not need to sell VET rewards all you have to do is have a little patient and put alittle effort into play. I never ever sold any of my VET rewards as thats not needed unless a person has no patients and wants it all and wants it now.
But hey if you really don't like the game don't sub to it.

After taking some advice from Obraik (I hope I spelled your name right) I went and got buffed in a cantina and was actually able to complete terminal missions albeit it was still a bit tough but I did it. I will give grouping a go tomorrow if I can find a group. Was having a lot of difficulty tonight trying to get a group..
As for selling my vet rewards. I have two of each for the last 5 years.. that is alot of stuff to store and I only have one house.

The good news is that while you're killing those NPC's and creatures for XP there is a chance you can loot collection peices (what collection peices they are depends on the type on NPC and the level),. There are 100's of different collections to complete, but some of them once completed will give you an item you can apply to your house that will increase the storage capabilities of your house by 100 for each you use on it. Depending on the house you have, it's possible to get it up to a item storage capability of 1300.
Wow you guys should stop bullying the poor guy. He was just posting his experiences.
What bullying? They gave him great advice. So I don't see the problem.
Back in old SWG you need Entertainer buffs as well to go out in the wild and hunt something.
At least nice to know, that at least that hasn't changed.

So every rose-colored post that tells us all how great SWG is you have no issue with.
But when someone posts with legit issues about the the game, the slow combat, the bugs, you question them...?
Sounds pretty unbiased to me.
Returning to SWG after a number of years can certainly be a daunting experience. There is a lot of relearning the game to be done before you will be happy with your effectiveness in combat.
My Brother-In-Law recently returned to SWG having left in PRE-CU and found that he was repeatedly dying when running terminal missions. He rolled out a new character and levelled up to 90 to get a better feel for how the game works now and since doing that he's now into PvP and Heroics and having a great time.
It might be worth considering rolling out a new character, just to see the game as it is today from a new perspective.
go to the boards for Bria, you'll see plenty of people buying vet rewards. Crate of free resources goes for ~20mill each so yeah. You can make some good money in those :-p Heck, ive made 150mill just pulling things out of my old accounts
The speed of the mole and the power of steel is my weapon
Also, to aid you in finding people looking for a group to do simillar things that you're wanting to do, I suggest reading through this page, http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/players/news_archive.vm?id=67772&month=052008 that has an overview on using the recently added player search tool.

I returned for the vet trial and moved my char from corbantis to chilastra. I have a lvl 32-3ish commando and he feels all kinda broken to me. I am getting smoked by mobs 10lvls below me. I am not sure if it's old gear, or that I am geared up wrong etc. I too am doing very little damage.
I rolled a Doctor on Bria, and he's totally new and he feels a lot more solid at lvl 13 than my commando at lvl 32.
I am not bashing, just asking for some help here. what would be the proper way to kit out my commando at his level?
Current Games:
I have a returning vet commando at about the same level so I'll give you the easy cheap, no ent. buff setup that works ok for me.
First junk any of the level reward weapons you might have gotten and go shopping for the best rifle you can. I have a DP-23? The kind that looks like the old CDEF model that does like 320 max damage and just looted a 270 damage one out of an animal last night (you want to talk strange things? Why do you find weapons inside animals?). Anything in that range will give you a fighting chance when used with the right combat specials. Speaking of those, at your level drop any of the gernade attacks and flame attack specials and concentrate on the straight gun specials and stat pluses (percision, ability etc....).
Next if you haven't done them yet go back and do the 2 profession quests that you got books for bunker cleanout and the sand pirate one just to get some loot to sell and pocket cash.
Now for good armor: Go to Dearic cantina on Talus and do Mort's Clone armor quest. Count on getting knocked down some especially in the hotel but it is soloable and you'll get some good numbered armor.
I don't do Ent buffs but do make use of the injection gun buffs that you loot. Their free, easy and do help.
After all of that you should be set up nice enough to take on anything (1 at a time) up to 10 levels above you. Stay away from the elites (with the claw around their level color dot) and you'll be fine.
SWG (pre-cu) - AoC (pre-f2p) - PotBS (pre-boarder) - DDO - LotRO (pre-f2p) - STO (pre-f2p) - GnH (beta tester) - SWTOR - Neverwinter
I have call BS on this post when comparing combat from pre-cu and what we currently Combat is vastly faster you must not be using auto-attack with out auto attack on comabt will seem slow, the "Y" key enables auto-attack when you 2-click a enemy.
PvP is fast and one mistake and either you or your foe are sent to the cloner no longer will you 1/2 hour battles between defense stackers.
You may want to get the mod that brings the old interface back also I use it.
