Well this sounds like a game I would like to try  But opening up every skill without limiting the skills that can be obtained, plus having pvp, I think you are opening yourself up to FOTM builds and the powergamers being unbeatable by the casual player.  This makes PVP not fun for the casual gamer and cuts off half the game from them.

In SWG PVP sucked if you were not set-up for it.

As soon as I read this topic I immediately thought of xboxlive.  This is the game I would like to see on xbox.  Any plans?

Sitting on my couch in my underpants playing a game like this on my huge TV would be awesome.image

I think that, as a small free dev team, you want to leave as little as possible open to hackers....You can't keep up with them, so why try?

If you make the self-targeted nukes more powerful, EVERYONE will use them. EVERYONE will also use the latest flavor of aimbot.

Well it isn't Counterstrike. And saying everyone will cheat isn't really nice, just because you would. And useing aimbots as an example doesn't really work. I never saw anyone useing aimbots in Planetside for example or tribes for that matter. If the game doesn't have direct line insta hit weaponry aimbots they don't work (wich I don't think it will not the majority of the spells anyway..).

But almoast every game has cheats wether it be speed cheats or aimbots or others. Just because there is a possibility of cheats isn't a reason to leave something out of a game, esp not something the has the potential to totally break from the mold and draw in a lot of people that isn't interested in the current mass market clones.

And you say that you can't keep up with hackers why try ? Well the simple answer is if you don't try you can never succede. And it's not even about if there will be hacks to it or not, personally I don't think it will become big enough to attract the "professional" game hackers (no offence to the devs).

If it was mentioned before..but you could make area affect spells..maybe exploding fireballs as an example to be aimed manually.

But anyways I like the idea of a player skill based Rpg  ...how are the skills going to be implemented?

Like more you put in say like a speed skill of some sort will your character swing faster? or run faster?

Or like blocking and such ?  whats the melee combat going to be like?

I play Neverwinter Nights purely for RP reasons cause I don't care about eye candy ..click and attack games..they do nothing for me PERSONALLY....my opinion.  So i stick with what I like why pay 10+ bucks a month to watch my life dwindle away with some goob telling me how he kicks ass..and how his char is.  when I can listen to the crap for free....hahahaha

I would like to see some really cool combat moves...spins and other cool swings...alot of these MMO's have dumpy fighting they all just stand around an enemy and attack...I wanna see spins and jump attacks!!  some friggn Tekken ...Soul calibur type of stuff!!  You slap that in an RPG your looking at an awesome game!!   I wanna see combat where people run around and attack each other not stand there and swing all day...this is just me but many people i know would like to see this too...Blades of Darkness.....Rune? that type of SHITE...but of course upgraded..

the PvP system is going to be made in a way that Any lvl player can hurt the next. I want to make it so Armour can only take a max of 75% the total hit away. SO...if you have a lvl 100 that has 100 Armour and a lvl 10 player hit them for 100 points of damage the total would be 100 points of damage minus points of Armour witch is a max of 75% so it will be 75...so the hit will=25 points. So 4 lvl 10 players attacking the same lvl 100 player could hit that play for 100HP a attack if they all hit for the same using the same weapon.

if i tottelly confused you :) let me know

also in FreeWorld you can hit multiple times with 1 swing (like 4-6 times with single weld or 4-10 with dual weld) so as you can see the damage can add up very fast.

i think when it comes to PvP that the mob mentality will rule in the end.

Well in moast games the mob mentality will rule simply because there are only the X number of basic classes and everyone knows what skills you should have to be effective and wich not to take because they will "gimp" your character... But if you have a class free system you will still have those that will take the latest uber build and run with that. But you will also open up the posibility for some interesting party/group combos. Like in EvE online everyone know generally how to outfit their ship to have a decent pvp setup, but sometimes an entire fleet can fit something totally diffrent and still be very successful due to the fact that noone suspected that certain setup and thus didn't prepare for it.

How is the skill xp going to work ? Do healing magic get heal xp, fight with a melee weapon and get melee xp or what ?

this is a very valid point that i have tried to stress to our tester that we have already. Just because you see a lvl 100 player that is in full plate mail in FreeWorld does not mean they are a fighter. Almost all skills in FreeWorld generate XP. For example if you go chop down tree you get LvL Xp and Gain wood Cutting Skill..so if you really wanted to you could do nothing but cut wood to lvl 100 but you would not hold any combat skills.

the skill system is basic......you use a sword you gain Sword Skill...you use a healing spell you gain Life Magic skill...So what ever you do you get good at...just like in real life :)

the lvl of a player does have a impact on how good they are....BUT it is not the only deciding factor in combat. Power moves and special moves will be gained by skill, also you gain damage modifiers with skill as well. PvP will be very interesting to say the lest :)

i think real time spell targetting is a great idea. infact, i think this whole game is a great idea. once the mechanics are down, im sure everything will be fine. because of the way the game works, i think depriving the real time aspect from magic skill wouldnt quite fit. obviously not every spell will be real time, but a majority of the war spells should be.

until now i havent read about this game , but now im interested and i want to get some thoughts out. i figured positive feedback wouldnt hurt, even if its off-topic. to me the game would ideally run like a mix between Morrowind (Elder Scrolls 3) and Asherons Call: Dark Majesty. it would combine the skill-based system and freedom AC had, but with the real time and involvement of Morrowind (that sounds like what you have planned, but ive yet to play). from those aspects alone it sounds like a winner. freedom in games is addicting, and the huge amount amount of customization should be kept, especially in the combat area. i think the real time aspect is a step forward. to confuse real time with "twitch" gaming is just misplaced, they are similar but its an unfair comarison IMO.
