The End of A Great Era that even a Free transfer can not save.

JestorRodoJestorRodo Member UncommonPosts: 2,642

Oh MY! My Free transfer is complete , The avatar Jestor Rodo is now on Bloodfin.

I found myself over loaded in my transfer to Bloodfin landing in Bestine when I was approached by Han Solo to run a mission for a new Landspeeder . After touching a few waypoints I was rewarded with the speeder and a customizing kit which I use hues of green and purple . All during this time , I encounter players with variations on the Skywalker nomenclature like Puke Wastenstool and Spuke Gloocovered. Sad.

After a search for a new house deed and a return to Anchorhead to place my new Home close to my old site from Kauri. I experienced an over population in housing - most marked Abandon, I now knew that I could not reclaim my old trade spot but after 5 times of repositioning I manage to plant my new house deed in the array of existing housing.

Basically what I experienced is a far cry from the game that I awaited for months - studying the Prima guide for - planning the game play , taking advantaged of all the game mechanics to forward my cause and established myself as a serious role-player taking full advantage of the circumstances in front of me.

I grow even more sadden to see what was an almost perfect sandbox environment mutilated to such a degree that it is to far gone to be saved , even by the most stalwart fanboi.

I will salute SOE for trying but the trumpets must stand ready to play the taps that I am afraid is what  long over due.

Good games run by companies that give a crap about their players tend to stick around for a long time. Without the station pass life support system none of SOE's games would be alive now.

SWG died twice.  4/27/2005 and 11/15/2005.

And Smed still smiles like nothing happened.  If I was the CEO of a company that lost 200k customer , I would resign.

I'm on Bloodfin and it's had a serious population bump.  And  it was a good population to begin with.  As a trader, I love it.    I have nothing but good things to say about the free character transfer.  I plan on getting two of my other toons relocated to better servers.   As far as the abandoned housing, that just recently happened when they announced the Pack Up housing day in March.  We'll be destroying all those then.  So maybe you can better place your house after some are destroyed.   Me and my two friends were relatively alone on a bluff until the transfers started.  Now there are 4 houses grouped among us.  I'm not complaining.  The more the better.  :D

That will be SW:TOR . A freash start with a brand new Prima guide. Banning me for 22 months and then handing me the NGE as a bobby prize is not my idea as fun but it appears that SW:TOR will be.

I'm a WOW fan, it is the best thee park ever made, but it's till nowhere near a sandbox, which is why I don't play it anymore. Instead SWG made Sandboxes look too difficult to pull off, WOW came out, owned, and the MMO market went into theme park overdrive, sadly not even good theme parks.
So maybe I found a new thing to blame SWG for other than global warming and bird flu, we can add Ruining the MMORPG Sandbox market, and driving it into theme park clonevill.

Had they stuck with the original vision instead of undermining it, and actually FIXED the original game, SWG would easily have surpassed EVE's success (which is currently at 300K subs and growing 5.5 years later) and been seen as the alternative to WOW loot raid grind levels treadmills everyone else tries to imitate.

They also wouldn't have the reputation they currently have.

This is so true. Unfortunately for Smed the time when he could have turned it all around has long passed.

4 houses grouped together equals a serious population bump...

It's almost enough to make you weep.

Most of us will remember when there were cities full of occupied houses extending well beyond the horizon.  After a small patch of landscape, you'd then find another thriving player city, then another, and another etc..  And of course we were at war with each other (i.e. Star "Wars") with Imperial cities facing off against Rebel cities in coordinated pvp battles that included hundreds at a time.

And the cities were full of vendor malls, when vendors and traders actually created and sold the best ingame items.  Now to get those you have to gamble on TCG card packs.

And, there were player created cantinas full of people, in player created cities, and pageants, weddings, house parties, dueling competitions etc. etc. etc...

It's like watching the decline of a virtual civilization.  Then we read about how everything is just wonderful...it's creepy as hell.

There are 10 servers with large populations now and the complete server transfer is not even close to over. In the end it looks like there will be 10 to 12 servers with great populations. If you are on one of the other servers move or be happy with a few dozen people to play with.

Yeah.  SWG has been unrecoverable since Spring 2006.  Had they rolled back or done classic and made the NGE a seperate track by then they would have recovered 100K subs and possibly then grown from there.

It's years too late at this point to do anything.  This is a game that has Devs who now DREAM of having 100K, 200K...  250K...  300K, rather than the <50K paying subs they have.

You will be able to force a packup of those Abandoned houses in March, if you want to find roleplayers, just type /who roleplay and it'll give you a list of all players currently online that are interested in roleplay.

Send some of them a tell and they should be able to let you know where the role playing community hangs out.

There are l33t kiddies with daft names spamming nonsense in all MMORPGs, just /addignore them.

Sorry BS,  The game is totally unplayable for me ( and over 200k others). Now you keep on enjoying it as I applaud your ability to exist and thrive in what most feel is a totally unsatisfactory MMO gaming situation.

Force of habit I'm afraid, anytime I see anything that looks like a statement of a problem, I try to provide a solution.  Not sure what I can do for "Totally Unplayable" though.

I got the same feeling when I tried returning to Ultima Online about a year ago, just wasn't the same game I remembered.

So, you really understand what all these vets are saying, then?

If if that is so, why push for more game-breaking CHANGES?

Wow...I'd like to know the answer to that question as well.
