i got nothing to apologize for. Frankly i wouldn't trust aventurine as far as i can throw them. I never said the game didn't exist, all i said was that alot of the shady practices remind me of DnL and Mourning. This company has done a HORRIBLE, and i mean that as much as I can capitalize it, job at developing this game.
8 years, fine, i can accept that with a small team.
But to keep stringing their fanbase along, with the lack of info, blackouts from devs, promises which keep getting shot down, announcing beta dates over and over for the course of 5 years now (first was promised in 2003), then going back on their word about preorders, the supposed "trial", everytime a beta date is missed, devs go into hiding for a few months leaving their fanbase to wonder "hey wtf?" without so much as a word during that time, the list goes on.
Yet, i love the hypocrisy, that if this was ANY OTHER company or game, these forums would be lit with these same people asking for the game to crash and burn, developers to be fired, foaming and cursing all over the public forums. But because this is Darkfall and Aventuring......"meh...we'll ignore it"
Then you have the majority (not all) of the playerbase, their behaviour and language alone could cause a mother to cry. They spout on EVERY forum "This is the best game ever!" or "Old xxxx vets! check this out!" or the ever famous "Every one head to these websites and spam the crap outta them!" But when people turn around, have legitimate questions or concerns, and turn to the appropriate forum to ask, they get cursed, insulted or told to get out you 08'r or whatever else you can think of.
Then you have the growing war between hater and fanbois. Fanbois think aventuring can do no wrong, and their actions are holier than thou, with their incessant invasion of everyone else's forums, the "darkfall rules, and any concerns you have makes you a hater and troll!". Haters are no better, but at least most of them are probably made up of people (like myself) who have followed this game since it's early inceptions, waitied after the first "beta" promise, then a second, only to be left behind each time when nothing happened and not a word from a dev.
THESE are the reasons why i will not play darkfall, and still wont. The game does look great on paper, but community and dev's play a large role in it. My favorite games were SWG, EVE, and LOTRO thus far, and not so much for gameplay or graphics, but beause the games are good, each have their own pro's and cons, but first and foremost, the community and population are great.

Why apologise? It's a game (or not! ), not a person. I find it bizarre that so many people act as if it's some sort of cult religion. I see no reason why anyone should apologise for anything other than being nasty to each other and only then if they feel guilty about it. People say crap to each other on forums - who cares? It's not a big deal, is it?

I won't apologize. Being skeptical is the logical thing to do. I will just say how much gladly surprised I am, and play the game. And take off my hat to Aventurine. Ah dreaming is free.
edit: on a second thought... I'm not sure I would trust them with my credit card number... so I don't know.
Are they using any kind of anti-hacking software for the game?

Originally posted by Ltldogg I don't believe the forums are down due to DDOS attacks. If anything, the leaked patch notes confirm what has been speculated: they lied about the status and progress of the game.
Have you ever done a beta test before? To communicate with their testers and have easily retained records companies use their forums.
Aventurine is not going to shut down their forums making it impossible for them to get feedback on anything not related to bugs.
The company has lied but that doesn't mean whatever they say are automatically false. Besides this is retarded petulant behavior from you because it's highly doubtful no one has made a lie in the past.
1. 8.5 years in development. Some devs could have released TWO MMO's in that amount of time.
Some did. Even including those who didn't how many were impressive?
a fanboy has their heart, head, and ego invested in an item. Any attack or criticism on the item is considered an assault on fanboy's heart, head, and ego. Fanbois are not interested in evidence or past history that might show proof of an impending downfall of item. It is vital that item succeeds and fanbois must convince everyone its awesome. To fail is to damage their ego.
Step back for a moment, seperate your ego from this game, open your mind and look at Darkfall for what it is. A game that has spend many years in development with no beta leaks. That right there should tell you something is wrong
Regardless of a person being fanatical about a product or not of course a person interested in a product will be emotionally invested because that product may serve their needs. I can get quite giddy when I find clothing, computer hardware and discounts on services I need.
What inhuman freak doesn't feel happy or sad about finding the things they want?
It is you who should step back and realize you are the worst type of emotional person. Like an abused spouse fresh out of rehab you give too much attention to a product you think is fundamentally flawed. Instead of turning away and looking at other things you could possibly enjoy you'd rather leer at everyone who is being patient or impatiently happy browsing this product and warning us the evils of what we desire because we aren't as damaged as you are.
We're all adults and budding adults here. We don't need your nannying and we certainly don't need the attention of certain people who are here for far less honorable reasons.
I find this whole prerelease nonsense very interesting to watch. Maybe it is some kind of social experiment lol.
Both sides lack information to fuel their expectations. The naysayers cant tell why a company would lie about a release (they havent start taking people's money yet, so scam is not an issue atm). The believers havent seen a hands on review yet as far as I can tell.
So to me this is just the typical prelease unbased guessing, with people who guessed right that will say 'I told you so!' afterwards. The people who guessed wrong, will ignore the outcome.

I remember bringing the fact that the darkfall community, for the most part, reminds me of the Vanguard community before it launched and bombed, and getting flamed for it.
They even use the same phrases:
Get out if you can't handle it!
This isn't WoW, you can't handle this game!
We don't want you, go away!
We don't need alot of subs, just a small core fanbase!
We don't want carebears in our game!
This is a real PvP game, being made by devs who care about what WE want, not what YOU carebears want!
Avastine won't deliver shit this week they suffered a dos from some adolescent and everything went down. Please, pray tell, how those guys that can't even protect their servers from denial of service will deliver what they're promising? You don't have to be a rocket scientist to see through the bullshit! Furthermore note that I'm not saying they are not releasing it, to the contrary, point is they will release it but I bet my ass it's going to be hell of an amateur job with lagged server, bugs and shit. Keep dreaming with the promises of an epic game only if you have so much faith that you insist to live in denial instead of looking at the real evidence available. In short, none coudn't expect other results since they are a group of ten programmers I don't know trying to pull out something that is far beyond their capacities. To think people believed in all small talk

Ah the cries of the needy and desperate are so entertaining... and kind of sad at the same time. This kind of stock footage answer is the REAL problem with any MMO forums nowadays.
People can handle Darkfall. Thats just a dumb comment. Its just another one of the hundreds of fantasy games out. Nothing more.
How many sandbox MMOs are out there right now? How many themepark MMOs are out there right now?
Yeah, Morrowind Online will just be "too much" for some of us to handle. People "bash" your game because of the self-important nuts it seems to attract. The DF forums form a nexus of video game ego on the internet, as if a meathead parade was going through town. Except, instead of people who care deeply about their bodies and get satisfaction from working out- it's a group of people who strike the same tones in relation to what game they play. Yeah, people make fun because they're jealous and can't handle it, and NOT because they see a a multitude of preening, annoying, loud, egotistical, jack@$$es.
They won't apologize. No MMORPG is perfect at launch. They will find something wrong with it, like lack of theme park quests and run with it. Then all the vapor trolls will jump over and join them and they will write this game off as fail. Then in a few months if it is still around they will discover it without their crap stained troll goggles on and play it, and a few months later they will be singing it's praises, and then a few years later they will talk about 'the glory days' when DF launched and how great of a game it was just like with SWG, and EVE.
They are blinded by their own hate like an angry mob, and have been for some time now. This is all of course if the game is good, and over the first few months grows into something beautiful. It could bomb like the others and just feed the troll army with more bitter disgruntled gamers.
I dunno, after reading the patchnotes all I see is these things have mostly just finally been turned on. Which means they havent been tested and are only just being tested a month before the slated release date. That reminds me of AoC where we were just starting to test lvl 20+ content 2 weeks before launch. If I were a fan I would really start to be worrying right now, not praising.
We all know that Adventurine do things differently but not having a game fully ironed out 1 month before release is not usual. I've been on a lot of betas and the last one was Wrath of the Lich King and that seemed totally unfinished 1 month before it was released.
Almost all of it are bugfixes and tweaks. There's very little new stuff there. Even the new GUI isn't a big deal as they can generally be done without affecting the main game engine (as anyone who's used WoW AddOns knows). Sure, they've dropped some more mob spawns around but that's not actually creating them from scratch - that's more akin to copy and paste.
I don't understand why people want to hate on this game so much... but thanks for the publicity anyway, chaps. Without your hating I doubt half as many people would know about this game.
If DF releases and is a good game I will apologize publicly in these forums. And after some months, the need for patching and solve main issues maybe I would play it.
Not all who speaks skeptic are trolls. There are some, like me and others, who have hopes that the game actually gets good and fulfill their supporters needs and aims.
They'll shut up and pretend it never happened. People have been real asshats about this game in general. Even now when people have been invited in to the trial they're doing denial of service attacks to try and screw things up. It's pathetic.
You're out of line here blanketing everyone who is negative against DF for being script kiddies.
You're correct. Not everyone in the war against Darkfall are running DDoS scripts against Adventurine's forums. That's just the technical squads which are entirely different from the disinformation and the psychological warfare waged on forums such as this. It may be wrong but in my mind I generally bundle them on the same side - the side that wants to see it fail.
Am I skeptical about Darkfall? I'm skeptical of every MMORPG because we've been subjected to such complete crap excuses for games over the past few years. The truth is that the "fanbois" here are not saying "OMFG Darkfall is the best game ever!" because they don't know that. They're just excited about the possibility of finally having a decent MMORPG. We've sure waited long enough for one!
Large companies have generally pandered to the vocal minority in games. They probably spend more man hours sifting through idiotic keyboard spew on their forums than they do actually improving their games. Their publishers push them in to releasing games that aren't ready or sometimes aren't even playable (Star Wars Galaxies, Vanguard, Age of Conan to name a few). Having a big company make a game is most certainly NOT a recipe for success, so I'm happy to give the little company a try.
People keep bashing the NDA too. They absolutely need the NDA. It's not there to stop players from knowing cool stuff - it's there to stop their competition from knowing cool stuff. Look how fast WoW implemented Achievements and Siege PvP based on what they learned from WAR beta. Adventurine's best chance of success is to keep things as quiet as possible so that people like Blizzard don't take the best bits too early.

No offense, but Tinfoil Hat much?
I highly doubt someone would go out of thier way to stop Aventurine from operating its webserver in the hope that it would prevent Darkfall from succeeding. I mean its plausable that some irate hater went insane and attempted to bring it down, but its also higly unlikely.
There are 3 types of people in the world. 1.) Those who make things happen 2.) Those who watch things happen 3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
Here's a theory...Tasos is responsible for the DDoS attack, so he can somehow use it a few weeks from now to delay the Feb 25th launch date. Call me a conspiracist....

Really? This thread again? Do I have to pull a copypasta?
In the words of the Legendary Roots Crew... I will not apologize. I will not apologize for staying logical while all around me fanboys hung on Tasos's last word as if he had terminal cancer. Why should I apologize for not believing in a game that nobody had every played? All the video proved is that Aventurine has a game. We don't know if its everything Darkfall is supposed to be, because all we've seen are poorly animated models beating the crap out of each other, instead of everything that players are supposed to be doing in a sandbox game. The video doesn't prove that beta is coming, seeing as a guild beta sign up sheet has been around since.... oh 2006? The supposed "beta invite waves" don't even prove beta is here, because the NDA is still in effect.
So no, I won't apologize. And I won't even apologize if this game ever came out, because Aventurine basically treated its fan base like crap for the 8 years that DFO has been in development. If it ever does come out, then I'll thank aventurine, maybe I'll even praise them, but I will NOT apologize.

As far as I know we have plenty of really good MMORPG around like WoW just to mention the most popular. When you say "we've been waiting" it indicates your judgement and perception of what you would like to see in a game but count me out because FPS stinks. If I want FPS I will aim at CoD 4, CS, Battlefield or some other crap however how does it makes sense in a fuckin' MMORPG?! It's bullshit!
Originally posted by Deathstrike2 My critisisms have never been about the game itself. Hell, I don't know anything about the game, because there isn't much concrete info out there IMO. No, I've always had a problem with Tasos and the company. They've BS'd their way into a corner, and I don't see that changing. BTW, how many fanboys came on the forums and apologized when the game's launch was pushed back a week from the last release date? Remember how anyone who said the game wouldn't be ready was labeled a troll or hater (much like you're doing now)? To be fair, I did see a couple of people who've been supporters of the game come on and say they were getting fed up with the crap -- but just a couple.
This has been my beef all along as well.
I think the game will be decent, but will be different then many are expecting. It is great to swing epeens around and self promote as some bad@ss PvPer... When reality sets in and some of these "fans" get repeatedly spanked they will start complaining.
This game has inherent issues from the leaks coming out that will turn people away (even the fanbois). On the flip side there are some great features being leaked that hold up to the hype.
In the end the game will stand on its own... but Tasos has done just as much damage as bad PR from dropping the NDA would do.

- Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.
I honestly think more of the haters would say they were wrong if the game succeeds than vice versa.
The rabid fan boys have already shown that when the so called haters are proven right, time and again so far, they dissapear for a few days and don't say anything...the forums get awful quiet.

Are they using any kind of anti-hacking software for the game?
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
You're out of line here blanketing everyone who is negative against DF for being script kiddies.
Some did. Even including those who didn't how many were impressive?
Thats the one problem I can see with DF once the game goes live (aside from bugs, missing content and the rest of the normal MMO launch stuff).
The community that ha surrounded this game is horrible. The official forums make a hate rally look like a peace demonstration. The way the community is ready to attack anything and everything someone says will cause a lot of people to bail out of the game. If you look at most games that have pvp servers you will see what im talking about. There are people out there who love pvp, and try as hard as they can to make pvp fun, but then you have the abusive rofltards who go out of thier way to ruin anyones chance at having fun.
These are the people who chase players away until populations start dropping and they will sit there and wonder why the game suddenly went to crap.
We all know that Adventurine do things differently but not having a game fully ironed out 1 month before release is not usual. I've been on a lot of betas and the last one was Wrath of the Lich King and that seemed totally unfinished 1 month before it was released.
Seriously take a look at the list: http://darkfallleaks.blogspot.com/
Almost all of it are bugfixes and tweaks. There's very little new stuff there. Even the new GUI isn't a big deal as they can generally be done without affecting the main game engine (as anyone who's used WoW AddOns knows). Sure, they've dropped some more mob spawns around but that's not actually creating them from scratch - that's more akin to copy and paste.
I don't understand why people want to hate on this game so much... but thanks for the publicity anyway, chaps. Without your hating I doubt half as many people would know about this game.
Simple.
But we remain skeptic, so far.
It is a question of fangs.
Adventurine's best chance of success is to keep things as quiet as possible so that people like Blizzard don't take the best bits too early.
wishful thinking

No offense, but Tinfoil Hat much?
I highly doubt someone would go out of thier way to stop Aventurine from operating its webserver in the hope that it would prevent Darkfall from succeeding. I mean its plausable that some irate hater went insane and attempted to bring it down, but its also higly unlikely.
There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
Here's a theory...Tasos is responsible for the DDoS attack, so he can somehow use it a few weeks from now to delay the Feb 25th launch date. Call me a conspiracist....
wishful thinking
