Agreed. I hear WoW is really easy.. That a power gamer can do just about everything in under a week? Not sure if this is true or not but if it is, the game won't last long. EQL I played for 5 years and I still haven't done everything and seen everything I could see.. Believe me it's not because a lack of trying. I hope EQ2 will follow in it's footsteps..
Definately going to try both though. Can't wait.

Originally posted by Coldmeat I gleefully await the day that the unattainable hopes of the WoW fanbois are dashed to little pieces on the sharp, jagged rocks of reality. That's not to say WoW won't be a good game, as all indications so far is that it's fun, but it's not going to be the Second Coming of Jesus that some seem to think it is. As for EQ2, it will tank, and tank hard, if it even makes it out the door. It's nothing more than EQ with hideous mannequins in place of the current models. Oh, but the NPCs talk! Yeah, that'll be cool, for 3.2 seconds, til you turn off all the sound in a desperate attempt to achieve 1 frame per second. -------- Odi profanum vulgus et arceo
I don't care either way, I'm going to play both until I decide which I like better.. But don't sit there and act like you know everything because it is quite obvious YOU don't know sh**

Originally posted by ablebrut You would tend to have reservations on the management and support of the game if you ever played Blizzard games on-line. While I would agree their games are great, easy to play and loads of fun, their support history with Diablo, Diablo 2 and Diablo LOD and the other Srarcraft and Warcraft games on Battlenet leaves a lot to be desired. They treat all players as cheats, liars and scammers and manage the Diablo games in a manner that shows no direction or purpose. WOW MIGHT be a great game, MIGHT be trend-setting but until Blizzard can show improvement in the support aspect, demonstrate care for their users and some creativity in the direction of their games, I wouldn't reccommend their games to anyone online. Beta test participation won't prove they have learned how to interact with their customers.
Exactly.. hell SoE delayed release of an expansion to fly a bunch of players out to their offices to discuss what's wrong and what needs to be fixed with everquest..
Lets see blizzard do that..

Originally posted by Chyron You are correct. Currenty they are both EverQuest II and World of Warcraft slated to be released on November 15. However, Thott has stated that WoW should be out by October 15. I hope he is right. I will purchase WoW just to play til EQ2 releases.
Looks like this was bunk ;p

Not to say that this is wrong, but "if it even makes it out the door" ? This game has already got hundreds of pre-orders and collectors editions bought, and the game hasn't even hit shelves yet. There's a multi-million dollar campaign just for advertising the game. Trust me, i'm sure the game will make it out the door.
As for nothing new? HAHAHA. This will take a WHOLE new spin from the original EQ. Anyone who took more than 15 minutes to read up on the game would know that. And you get way more than one frame per second. It was run on a low end machine and played fine. Your just being too negative.
Playing: City of Heroes/ Dark Age of Camelot Upcoming: EverQuest II
what do u mean by low end machine
i run a 1 gighz AMD, 320sdram, geforce2mx400 64mb
and the minimum requirement to play exceeds wut i have on my pc!!!!!!!!!!!
eq2 looks like a laggy game to me... and SOE are greedy... dun forget they were the ones that made SWG and look wut happened to that game... it looks like SOE will release another unfinished game just to compete with WOW... in the end i have no respect for SOE...
Someone said that Blizzard had horrible technical support for its Diablo series. That wasn't Blizzard's support, that was Battle.net's support, which is free. World of Warcraft is going to be a subscriber based service, and will have much better support.
Someone else said that Blizzard's games weren't high-quality, because that person didn't like them. That's like saying "hey, I hate FPS, let me try one and see if I like it." You won't. However, Blizzard's games tend to define the genre, taking everything and doing it well. While not always groundbreaking, they are extremely polished and enjoyable games.
That's the direction Blizzard is going with WoW. Not to attract all the hardcore EQ vets, but to create a polished and fun MMORPG, that's accessible to those who aren't die hard MMORPG fans. Will it be fun to play for power gamers? No doubt. Someone compared it to EQ, saying they still hadn't done everything there is to do in EQ, and that they will get bored with WoW. How many years has EQ been live to constantly add new content, vs. how long has WoW even been released to the public?
Someone else said that WoW looked like it belonged on a PS2. Personally, I love what they have done to the graphics. They saw a problem: with thousands of people online in a game that encourages mass PvP encounters, how do we keep the lag and framerate low as to ensure that the game is still playable? By using more textures and less polygons. And so what they created was a very cartoony fantasy look, that, if you've ever actually played in the game, is extremely immersive. Everything is very detailed and feels real. You finally feel like you're playing a fantasy game. Now, if you want high polygon count and top of the line graphics, go for EQ2. But good luck getting anywhere in a large city.
I'm not a Blizzard fan boi, in that everything Blizzard does must be good. But so far I have never been let down by Blizzard. And WoW is turning out to be no different.
wow... i cant believe you commented GW... i didnt think the graphics were all that good and the game play seemed more like Diablo II. EQ is diffently the best graphics but you cant compare it with WoW becuase of them onpurposely making it look cartoony. It feels so much more homely in the game and adjustable than EQ witch you have to build your life around.
well enough ranting about that. I dont know why the open beta is counted as a rumor becuase it has been stated (not date wise) that it will be coming out... im guessing there gunna be releasing the open the 21st or 28th just from there own history. or maybe they would release it a friday. but thats mainly just me being hopefull of it releasing this month.

I too have never been disappointed in a game developed by Blizzard. I have played WoW for a few days during the stress test and I think its going to be a Grade A game.
What gets me is that people fuss over the graphics like they did when Warcraft 3 came out. "It's too cartoony" Yeah, so was StarCraft and the previous 2 Warcrafts.
WoW is build around the storyline of Warcraft 3, so why not try to keep with the same schema of it? The effects and graphics are far more advanced than WarCraft 3 but you still get that feel of the game.
And yes, since its not the top of the line 3d graphics rendering engine, you can actually play on a populated server without looking like your the "Six Million Dollar Man"
Meh, I beta tested WoW. It was pure mediocrity. I will admit that it had a level polish not yet seen in the realm of MMORPG's, however, let me stress that WoW does not break any new ground, nor does it offer anything unique. It plays like a late-comer; meaning it has all the features of an MMORPG of 2 years ago. Nothing new, nothing different, nothing special.
Alright.. I have played many many MMORPGs, they are all almost exactly the same, i mean you cant get that different when it is MMO game, if you have the game depend to much on "Real Time Combat" then people who lag alot are going to die, alot. (Planet side for example) so the combat is pretty much the same no matter where you go, crafting skills? only slightly different between two games. People are running out of ideas, (People being game designers). Most stuff has already been done, any game that comes out can be labled a Diablo rip off, EQ rip off, Half Life rip off, or any rip off you want. There is only so much you can do. And unless game designers get really really creative, then MMORPGs are all going to be the same experience, with different graphics. If you dont like Blizzard games, then play EQ2 if you dont like SOE then play WoW, if you dont like either try somthing else! just stop going on how "This game is dumb" or "That game sucks" just cause you dont like the way the game designers made what little they could different.
When I downloaded the stress test client it was about 3 GB. On cable, it took me about 3 hours to download. Most of the time was the wait time because everyone else was downloading it too. I think that the client is about 3.5 or so GB and on a 56k, that's going to take quite a long time.
I just d/l'ed the WoW open beta client and the file size was 2563.93 MB ( or about 2.6 GB ). I had to use the dang Blizzard Downloader and even with a cable modem connex, it took 21 hrs!!! That's because it makes you function as a mini-mirror site, ie while you're d/l the file TO your machine, you're also uploading it to others FROM your machine, which slows the whole thing down horrendously!
It's an appalling way to distribute a client but that's how Blizzard's version works! On a dial-up . . . it could take WEEKS ! ! ! Try to find some other way to get the client - you do NOT want to use the Blizzard Downloader, if at all possible ! ! ! hehe
no it has not started yet, but there were a few posts with links to the client so you could start playing as soon as you make an account when it opens.
