I dont want to win or lose, i want reliable information, i want people to stop speading rumours, let them do their job and finnish the game in their own time, without feeling the pressure of sticking to any deadlines just because a community with some retards rather play NOW, then when its complete.
That's a flawed characterization.
Everyone wants to play a game when it's "done" and "ready". Calling people "retards" is completely uncalled for; name-calling doesn't strengthen your argument.
That said, what people don't like (including many the fans are calling "trolls" for daring to be skeptical or critical) is when developers make obvious false statements, like "the game could release today", when it obviously couldn't. They don't like secrecy. They don't like being asked to pay a "pre-order" in the face of a lack of information of exactly what they're pre-ordering. At this point, official information should have been much more plentiful than it has.
Overall, ramzith, you have a pretty healthy outlook on the situation - "just the facts, please". But you do not need to mischaracterize people or call them "retards" in order to express it.
On a side note... As for the people here who suggest using Google to find beta leaks as a defense... That is just *weak*. That people have to go looking for beta leaks which may or may not be accurate only underscores the lack of official information. It doesn't excuse it. Beta leaks are not a substitute for official information from the developers themselves; it's a weak defense being thrown out by those who will defend AV no matter what they do.
And we've already seen the typical "true/not-true" crap happening when people do point out information from so-called "beta leaks". You can predict what response specific people here will have based on whether the info is positive or negative. The "faithful" will dismiss anything negative as "trolling" and uphold anything positive as "proof that the game is awesome"... The *true* haters (ie. not those who are merely skeptical) will do just the opposite. The true skeptics maintain the stance of "I'll believe it when I see it for myself, first-hand, and then render an opinion; 'til then it's all hearsay or otherwise dubious". The whole routine is predictable and ridiculous and I can't believe it even warrants serious debate for some people.

Dont worrie it will be a succes for hardcore, and i dont care about the kids from themeparks.
Darkfall wil not be dumbed down for themepark kiddies, mark my words:)
Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009..... In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.
Dont worrie it will be a succes for hardcore, and i dont care about the kids from themeparks. Darkfall wil not be dumbed down for themepark kiddies, mark my words:)
See... statements like this are not necessary.
A game being a "theme park" or a "sandbox" says nothing about those who play it aside from their preferences. Preferences can not be so neatly squeezed into "convenient little stereotypes". When one attempts to do so, they typically look foolish because such stereotypes are baseless and easily proven false.
My sister is 44 years old and plays WoW. Why? Because it's a fun distraction for her that she can sit down and play that fits perfectly into her lifestyle (raising kids, etc). Many of her guild-mates are similarly in their 20s or higher, have jobs, etc. In fact, every person I know who plays WoW, or LoTRO, etc... are over 20 years of age. If you've spoken to some of them, I highly doubt you'd come away with the impression of them being "kiddies".
Similarly, I've known plenty of people in their teens who love sandbox MMOs and don't like themepark games.
I happen to find I can enjoy either type, and I'm 35.
Point is... You have a preference for sandbox MMOs and don't like the "theme park" type, that's perfectly fine as is.
Again, you don't need to name-call or demean others to "support your side". That goes for anyone.

It is funny that you call yourself hardcore, Evasia... I like that.. Since I just read through your extensive Post history, and found out the first MMO you ever tried was Age of Conan, and you did not even know how to use a game card....
So I a sure you do not want it dumbed down for "themepark kiddies", as you sauy even though I am sure you do not even know what a "themepark game" is.... You just want it dumbed down just enough for you. with better instructions on the game cards...

People take Darkfall waaaaay too seriously. It's just a game. A game which, I hope, did not kill your grandma or take your virginity. Haters and fanboys, ladies and gentlemen, just shut the fuck up and get a life. If it arrives (which I personally hope it will) then let us pray that it will be a great game. If not, then just go on with your nerdy little life. Hopefully you will get a wife and kids some day, even though I doubt a chick would want a man that could get so obsessed with a game.
In the event that someone hasn't quoted the above post (for truth and great justice, obviously) already on the later pages of this thread, I'll do so now. Will Darkfall succeed? Will it fail? It does not matter. There are other games, and there will be other games. I know this site attracts those passionate about games by its very nature, but there's no excuse for those of you who treat each other like subhumans over a video game.

CCP didn't start in their basement. CCP have had a professional team working on Eve from the start, not 4 guys sitting in a fucking basement.
True. CCP Games was founded by three people and later when the developing of EVE came along it had 21 people. Darkfall atm has around 50 people or so working in a real studio.

I care because i am looking for something interesting to play, an alternative to WoW/AoC/War etc..
i dont want children, <Mod edit> to hijack a game, by applying pressure on the developers to please everyone, including yourself, one opinion doesnt matter, but toxic can spead fast. I want them to do their job without hear your rubbish opinion on the matter.
I dont want to win or lose, i want reliable information, i want people to stop speading rumours, let them do their job and finnish the game in their own time, without feeling the pressure of sticking to any deadlines just because a community with some retards rather play NOW, then when its complete.
As for thinktank, who seems to be a bit more sensible in his reply, i would like to state that they have not taken 8 years developing Darkfall, secondly once the NDA drops you will get lots of answers to all your questions about Darkfall, there is no need to pre-order it. Just wait and see what people say about it first.
Im going to pre-order just to support the developers, regardless of if i play it or not, i see it as more of a donation.
Calling others immature while making a post that requires a MMORPG.COM mods to spank you with an edit doesn't really give weight to your viewpoint.
But I will agree that all we want is reliable information. Not videos or reviews released by people hand-picked by Aventurine but information from independent game magazines and reviewers. This is typically done for a game that is less than one month away from release and most companies would kill to have major websites and gaming magazines write articles and previews after being allowed to play their game.
History has shown the longer a company clings to an NDA before release, the more they have to hide. Dropping the NDA a month before release is not an unreasonable expectation. Aventurine hasn't done that or allowed any gaming reviewer or website to play their game so the only thing left to the community is rumors and hype. I hate unproven rumors and hype as much as anyone which is why I despise Aventurine for feeding the community that for years.
If you think that's the way a developer should behave then give them your money and show them that they can treat the community like garbage and show them there are those who are will not only swallow it but pay for it. Or you can try to raise your standards and expect a developer to at least meet current standards (previews, public demos, NDA lifting etc). Or better yet, maybe even exceed the standards.
I completly agree, i dont agree with the NDA, but it is there, i do want reliable information, but if people are willing to pre-order something they know nothing about then i would like to sell them sand in sahara.
I will pre-order the game just out of support for the guys at Aventurine, but any other person who pre-orders because they think its good, without knowing any facts, it is silly, we have been proven to be fooled by the MMORPG market before, lets not make that mistake again.
I dont agree with keeping information from the community, but i dont want the community to spread rumours and complain about things they know nothing about, i want the community to give what they are given.
We are given the silent treatment from aventurine, then we should give aventurine the silent treatment back, rather then stir up all these rumors.
we should just let them work, complete their game, when they are ready to lift the NDA , we can then decide if we should pre-order or not.
i get annoyed at a WoW/WaR/AoC fanatic saying that the game sucks cause its animations are not as good as WoW.
for me , the only good thing about wow is its animations, stop comparing and stop try to affect the outcome when you dont know what the current game is like.

EVE started development around the same time as Darkfall. And despite it having less than half of Darkfall's size dev team it managed to launch 5 years ago. And since that time EVE has launched 10 expansions.
Darkfall remains in beta and based on what I saw (Leaked videos) its not ready to launch.
Face it, EVE has kicked Darkfall's ass. Here we have two MMO's, one that shows us how an Indy developer creates a masterpiece. And another shows us how to mismanage, piss off everyone, and screw up a game.
If I were an indy development team, which MMO should I try and emulate to make my own successful project ?
"That said, I find it rather amusing and ironic that there are numerous "Leave DF alone!" type posts being made lately; particularly coming from a game whose fan-base, at least in large part, consider themselves "hardcore" and able to take a scratch or three.
Yet, get critical of the game, and boy do some of them get thin-skinned. How are you gonna be "hardcore" in a FFA PvP game if you can't handle some criticism, even some "hating" (which goes both ways, by the way) in a message forum?"
When I read this I laughed out loud. So many people boasting about being "wolves" and the rest of the players are "sheep" and on and on.

why do you assume that i dont know any facts? and secondly, i support Oxfam as well, i support any cause that i feel deservs it. I feel that Aventurine deservs it, this is for other reasons then i care to mention in this forum.
and its only going to cost about £30ish.
Slampig,
i think its to do with having IP (intellectual property) being raped on every occasion by dumbing it down, this is done in hollywood, the music industry and the game industry.
The reason why the Darkfall "fans" want people to get their hands off darkfall is because there is potential to make something original, and toxic nagging and complaining can affect the outcome, we dont want that.
I would like you ask you a question, what is the issue of flamming or even mentioning Darkfall in a negative tone, you know nothing about it. why not just leave it and play wow, if you think its better? the fanbois like the fact that its promising, yes, they are aiming for the moon with the game, and if they happen to land on a star then il be satesfied.
what do the synical critics not like? is it bad to aim for the moon? would you prefer it if they said that they where making a DAoC copy? or maybe a wow copy? would that rock your boat?
are you being critical just for the sake of being critcal?
dont give me the tierd excuse of them not giving you information, they dont have to, the NDA is in place for a reason, also dont tell me about delays, cause the delay of darkfall has been minimal, if i remember coorectly WoW was supposed to be out in 2004. delays are common in the games industry. And its better to have delays then to release a unfished game, such as AoC.
why do you assume that i dont know any facts? and secondly, i support Oxfam as well, i support any cause that i feel deservs it. I feel that Aventurine deservs it, this is for other reasons then i care to mention in this forum.

What toxic nagging do you feel is going to affect any outcome? What, becuase people discuss and express differing opinions, you think AV are going to radically change or tone the game down or something?
If that's the case, it would seem you don't seem to have much faith in them. I would like you ask you a question, what is the issue of flamming or even mentioning Darkfall in a negative tone, you know nothing about it. Yes, because everyone knows that message forums are only intended to speak positively of games. No criticism or negative feedback is ever allowed. And only people who speak critically "know nothing about it". Those who speak positively know all the facts. Of course.
(yes, that was sarcasm) why not just leave it and play wow, if you think its better? Yay! Another person assuming that if you have any criticism of DF or AV you must automatically think WoW is better; quite possibly the laziest and most baseless counter-argument used on these forums.
What about those who don't play WoW and still have criticisms of DF or AV? What game would they think is better? EQ? Eve?
I mean... if you're going to make assumptions of people based only on the nature of their comments about DF, I would hope you have a "back-up" plan for when they don't fall neatly into the "WoW is better" stereotype.
Or did you not put that much thought into it? the fanbois like the fact that its promising, yes, they are aiming for the moon with the game, and if they happen to land on a star then il be satesfied. what do the synical critics not like? is it bad to aim for the moon? would you prefer it if they said that they where making a DAoC copy? or maybe a wow copy? would that rock your boat? Well if you actually read the people's posts instead of immediately labeling them "people who think WoW is better" and wanting them to leave, you would see that many of those being critical also want the game to be good - they're just willing and able to look at things without rose-colored glasses. are you being critical just for the sake of being critcal? I'm sure some are, but not all are. Just like some are raving fanboys with no good reason other than they've decided that DF is going to be "their game" and so it can do no wrong and is beyond all criticism. Any criticism they see is immediately deemed "hate" or "trolling"... even if it's neither. dont give me the tierd excuse of them not giving you information, they dont have to, the NDA is in place for a reason, also dont tell me about delays, cause the delay of darkfall has been minimal, Minimal? They announced they were nearing beta back in 2003. It's 2009 and it's still not released. ~6 years is just a *tad* more than a "minimal delay" by any rational measure. if i remember coorectly WoW was supposed to be out in 2004. delays are common in the games industry. Well then, you just shot down your own argument:
WoW released November 23, 2004
So... according to you... WoW was "supposed to be out in 2004"... And, funny enough, it was.
Nice lack of fact checking there

It is not the game I am "flamming", it is the rabid obsession and pointless attacking of skeptics that gets under my skin. I want to see darkfall succeed, if it ever releases of course. Just because I and many others have our doubts about the game does not justify being attacked and labeled "trolls".
Certain eyes need to be opened and maybe all these lame-ass "troll" vs. fan threads can finally end. This crap is getting to be as bad as all the SWG "Vets" constant whine.

That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!
