Pets in darkfall

Hello all.



I have tryd to find some information about if there are pets or not in the game, but whit no lock.

So can any of you guys tell me if there are or not ?

    Pet system was removed awhile ago.

    Probably it's because they have no idea how to do it, like they don't know how to make tanks with wheels behave well and make them hover over the ground.

    That is such a cheesy aspect in any MMOG. Hiring a NPC to avoid grouping defeats the point. Either solo or group. I solo mostly and soloing means relying on the skills and abilities of a single character.

    Clans of players can install guard towers to protect their cities but I don't believe NPCs are hireable for that purpose either.

    No pets in DarkFall because the devs dont want some random noob bot hunting you down all over the whole world.

    Hardly. It's because they probably just don't know how to make pets. Or are incapable of implementing them properly

    I always was under the assumption based on Aventurine'sTasos' past interviews that this would be a pvp game that would allow for the user's personal gameplaying skills.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't a pet system (and I guess if implemented in DF, would mean some "summoner-type skill tree(s)) in Darkfall be counter-intuitive to what Aventurine's goals were for this game to begin with?

    Your quote, "... incapable of implementing them properly."  I would say contradictory of Darkfalls essential pvp environment goals. 

    Face it, a pet system means A.I. controlled system vs. a players personal gameplay skills.

    I never said it wasn't cheesy and I personally don't really care for it too much. The information on hirelings is under the gameplay section of the  Darkfall website, I don't know if it's still accurate now though :

    Again, take the info as you wish. Merely stating that the idea of hireling/henchmen has been metioned by Aventurine.

    no! Prestige classes will be added after release. Try to follow what happends on the forumfall :D

     probably because they want the game to be based on skills, not how good pet you can summon.

    Its probably because they don't know how to implement them and keep the game fairly balanced.   Adding a pet to normal players would guarantee the player with pets a win in a 1 vs 1 fight unless you make the pets completely useless.   The only other way is to force some kind of damage reduction on the player summoning the pet, which would basically make them a " pet class ".    Granted that may not be such a bad idea, since they chose to summon the pet in the first place.  I doubt they would have time to implement a pet raising system at this point, since the current game needs work before it is released.

    Player support for certain game mechanics seem to be in some quantum state of uncertainty which is determined by whether it currently exists in the game.

    Pets are out? Well that's good because ahhh... pets are for the unskilled anyway!

    I for one am disapointed that there will not be pets.

    It has nothing to do with being an unskilled player either. 

    It just makes me feel immersed with the environment when I can domesticate the environment. 

    Ive never played a game where it made you uber powerful to be a pet handler either.  Not in UO, old school SWG.

    More often than not a well rounded character would beat a creature/pet handler more often than not due to the required skills/work that must go into making a creature worthwhile.  Plus they are so slow so if you cant get away from one ... you are the unskilled one.

"  You're lucky you've never played Hellgate.  On 1v1 pvp, with a Summoner "Warper" build the match usually lasts 1 to 2 seconds from onset (and that's against any class).  And all you need is armor that have stat values that equal your attacks with bonuses of 100% Shield Pen.  In that case your "Warper" pet can One-hit kill any class regardless of armor and hp.  Needless to say, in Hellgate most people tend to decline againts going up against a Summoner "Warper" build... unless they're another Summoner "Warper" build.

    Ehh... no.

    It depends on how it's done. Look at Guild Wars, you control your pets every move. It's just as playing your character only you have an extention of yourself to work with and that needs protection/planning.

    Don't defend the case of no pets, it's just lame they can't add them. Maby in the future, but right now it feels very lame not being able to raise minions or have a pet to work with! It takes from the flavor of the game to many.

    I really don't think this engine can support pets. IMO
